I was even more thrilled that they had superman ice cream, which I learned was a local specialty ice cream flavor during my Detroit research. Sub 20 degree temperatures were not going to stop me. The place is SO CUTE and they gave both of us a free cookie "for trekking here in the cold". The ice cream was SO GOOD. Popped in here with some colleagues when in Detroit on a work trip. We got there about 2 minutes until closing but they'd already shut down the machines ... but... they had pints available in the freezer case. We bought three different flavors and sat outside to enjoy them. We had the Superman, Honeycomb, and Chocolate peanut butter. They were all so good! Would love to try the fresh from the machine as I assume the texture is a bit different / softer. The employee had the door locked and was walking out within 2 minutes of our purchase, so it was obvious that she was planning to close early and was not anticipating any last minute customers. When I used to work for a frozen yogurt place, we were not allowed to shut down the machines until after closing. We are glad we had the chance to try the ice cream though. read more

Near so many fun local shops. Make a day of it walk around with your cream. There is one or two indoor tables and several on a patio if you want to hang. Definetly the best vegan soft serve I had. They have only few flavors but I think they do rotate them from time to time, and they offer few topping options. They were out of waffle cones so we went with cups, regular size which is plenty. The ice cream is very rich and fluffy, just like a custard soft serve would be. The base is cocunt but you can't really taste it. My husband got the sweet cream with dark chocolate glaze but unfortunately the machine broke so me and my mom had to go with a different flavor so we decided on lavender with caramel drizzle. I was a little skeptical about this flavor but it was delicious. Very subtle flavor. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They have few tables so you can sit and enjoy your ice cream and while we did that, a lot of people showed up so I guess it's a popular place. That makes me happy. Texturally, it's fantastic, very smooth. I got the sweet cream flavor and it's good but it didn't have that richness cream usually has. I got a kiddo cup and it was still a pretty decent amount, but if I come again, I will definitely just get the small! I had a blue moon drizzle that was delicious and I'd eat a whole cup of that to be honest. My friend got fruity pebbles as a topping and when she got to the middle they put some there!! It was a cool surprise! The girls working there were so nice too, I couldn't decide between the horchata or sweet cream and they offered me samples of both! The horchata had an icier texture, but it was still really good. There's some outdoor seating and when the weather is nice, it's great. I get that vegan soft serve isn't for everyone, but truthfully that's their loss. The Cold Truth is a delight. Their flavors change regularly and I appreciate how natural tasting they always are! We were finishing off our evening and there was one last stop. Despite all of us being too full to move, he wanted my niece to try this very cool vegan ice cream spot. The pineapple with blue moon drizzle was a perfect combination together, while the chocolate soft serve with caramel drizzle was a mistake. All the options right now are vegan & it's my new favorite place to get ice cream! I'm not a huge sweets person, so I really prefer Cold Truth soft serve to anything else I've found recently. All the flavors I've tried are much more creamy than they are sugary, which I love, and it makes the ice cream feel a lot more light as well. They currently have a flavor called Big Gretch & I strongly recommend EVERYONE try it (everyone who ordered after us & while we were sitting at one of their patio tables eating it sure did)! It is named after our wonderful Michigan governor & tastes like fall in a CUP. There's pumpkin & vanilla soft serve with roasted pecans (which were honestly my favorite part & I normally hate any nuts in my ice cream) and an spiced apple drizzle! It was truly perfect! I should be honest here: I don't think vegan ice cream works. I think there's really delicious vegan pastries, brownies, etc. But frozen coconut water tastes like coconut. I tried the sweet cream vanilla flavor with two toppings: strawberry dust and graham cracker on a waffle cone! Honestly, the serving is huge! I could have had a kids size and would have been satisfied. The sweet cream is this thick luscious vanilla with a smooth creamy consistency. Nothing about it watery or lacks flavor. The graham cracker topping seems to be home made graham cracker and was delicious. That strawberry dust though.... I wish I could sprinkle on everything. They make each item to order, so don't expect lightning fast results, but it's worth it! Just bundle a bit extra during these cold months. The storefront is welcoming, as are the workers.
