I missed this ice cream shop when I first checked into the Element, but seeing a line formed down the block later that evening made it clear I'd have to circle back. Even though it was a little chilly for ice cream today, I decided to get my fix. I went for the classic vanilla and chocolate swirl, and Huddle delivered on that smooth and creamy goodness. Y'all don't eat me up. I have an uncool- maybe even unpopular opinion. This place is cute, quaint, cozy, and definitely in a great spot! However, the ice cream is mid. Sorry! It wasn't to my liking at all, it tastes as it if had too much heavy cream in it. Uncool opinion- but a cute little spot - if you like your ice cream extra creamy with a slight after taste. I'd walked by this soft serve window many times and we finally got a chance to try it after the Lions/Steelers preseason game recently. The menu is small, with chocolate, vanilla, and twist soft serve, some options for toppings/chocolate dip, and some floats. There was no line when we walked up and they are super fast getting the ice cream. We got a twist in a cone and added Oreo (+$1). There is some seating in the alleyway so we sat down to share our cup. The soft serve is... good. Honestly I guess I was expecting something mind-blowing based on the reviews, but it was just kind of basic. Not bad by any means! I definitely wouldn't get the Oreo again, it was literally just cookie dust and not worth an extra dollar. I'm glad we got to try it, and it was a nice treat on a hot day! I've been watching Huddle for YEARS, but had been unable to make it by because either I was going somewhere else on a time crunch or they were closed. But last week I parked around the corner here to pick up some take out and I finally made it over. Worth the wait! As others have said, this is a no frills ice cream walk up and it's all presented in a sign next to the booth. There was a pretty good sized line when I got there but by streamlining the menu it means the line moves quickly. There are but three choices: vanilla, chocolate, and twist, served in your choice of cup or cone (sugar or waffle) . There are also a few topping options like sprinkles, chocolate chips, sea salt, plus chocolate and cherry dips. In addition to the soft serve they also have a a few floats with pop choices like Coke, Rock n' Rye, root beer, and Vernors. And that's it! I personally went with a standard sugar cone, twist, dipped in chocolate and sea salt. It was SO good! The only thing is next time I would personally ask for light sea salt bc they put on quite a bit and I wanted more of that chocolate flavor to come out from the dip. But either way? Awesome. If you find yourself around there, make a plan to stop and treat yourself to a nice cup or cone of some of the finest soft serve around. And don't be intimidated by the line, it moves fast! read more

The worker was kinda nice, but his buddy came up and dabbed him up with dirty hands, and he was touching a bunch of stuff so it was very unsanitary. The food was not that good and left a weird taste in my mouth. read more

A quick stop ice cream shop with the most creamiest & thick soft serve. They only have a few options to choose from (chocolate, vanilla, twist) and several toppings to choose from. They give you a lot of ice cream so be prepared! The only thing that I wish the ice cream had was more flavor. Full from lunch, I was enjoying an afternoon walk in the neighborhood when I came across this small ice cream outlet. The people in front of me ordered the soft serve from the window so I went with that as well. Oh my! I think this is possibly the best soft serve I've ever had. It was rich, luxurious, and velvety. I just wish I read the menu more carefully. I would have noted that in addition to a number of floats, chocolate and cherry dips are also available. I am very pro-chocolate dip. Next time. Huddle is a super cute walk-by soft serve spot. The worker was nice and fast at getting us our treats. They also had free soft serve for whoever's name it was that day, and it was our friend's name which was super fun haha. I've been to Huddle before and was disappointed but decided to give it another shot and it's still just not for me. The soft serve lacks a lot of flavor, I could barely taste the chocolate. And I'm unsure if it was the shell or soft serve that gave a really gummy feel in my mouth and throat. My friends enjoyed the spot though! There was a long line so we knew it would be good. The clerk (Rayanna?) was friendly and helpful! It was nice there were just a limited of choices of flavors of ice cream and lots of toppings. The choices are vanilla, chocolate, or twist. I got sea salt and Oreo on a twist cone. My son got a rootbeer float. I would probably not get sea salt again because I was so thirsty afterward. Yes! Yes! Yes! We finally got around to trying this soft serve while waiting for a table at The Brakeman. A cute little walk-up spot with simple, yet, delicious and creative toppings. Just FYI you cannot bring in your cone into The Brakeman which is kind of a bummer. Anyway - after one cone, we HAD to come back the next day for another. Their ice cream is thicker than most soft serve- kind of like a frozen whipped cream? I don't know, but I really liked it. It wasn't too sweet either so I could feel good after eating a cone rather than fearing a stomach ache. Day one: twist cone dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt. Ummmm...why doesn't every ice cream shop have an option like this?! Truly a heavenly combo and a must try. Day two: a kid sized vanilla cone dipped in cherry. Took me straight to my childhood. They do special flavors once in a while. I missed out on the ube, they only had pints left but I wasn't going to finish that during our walk around downtown. Definitely a solid place for ice cream in Downtown Detroit! We stopped by one evening after dinner just because I can't say no to ice cream in any form. Had the kiddie cone which was the perfect size. Ordered the swirl dipped in chocolate sprinkles which was yummy. It's just a walk-up stand facing the street in a building, so nowhere to sit and eat. I saw several people take their orders to go in the car. Unfortunately we were waiting for an Uber so I had to demolish my cone in the 5 minutes we had while waiting for the car. In that time at least 2 people came up to us asking for money. Just something to maybe be aware of if you're eating it on the street. Definitely come for the soft serve, it's simple but good and conveniently located downtown. read more

Cute little stand with frozen custard in cones. I wouldn't really describe the texture of this as ice cream, but I would describe it as something like a frozen custard. I got a few different ones for us to try, since I walked up the stairs and took a little walk from the car to the ice cream in the rain, which was the crushed oreos and sprinkles and one with plain. I really didn't want to review this place because I didn't want you taking my spot in line. This is Dairy Queen on steroids. These guys figured out how to do custard (egg based ice cream) right and soft serve. Thick, tasty, not overly sweet. Park in the lot next to Mootz. Eat your meal there and have them validate your parking. Then stroll over to Huddle for dessert. Thank me later. read more

They serve solid custard. Not the best I've had (I really like Bob Jo's in Wyandotte!), but pretty good and I would definitely come back again. The decorations and style of the place is super cute and nostalgic feeling, so A+ on that! Other random comments: If the first person who orders is named X, then anyone with name X gets free cones! On a hot summer day, Huddle! is exactly what I needed. The location is super convenient, in walking distance from downtown. Given that the store front is just a walk up window, we were able to social distance easily and I felt that the space was clean and sanitary. My cone was delish, though the price was a little high for soft serve. That being said, I'd gladly pay the extra dollar or two than leave city limits and drive 15 minutes to find it elsewhere. Our group tried a cherry dipped cone, sprinkle dipped cone, vernors float, and rock n rye float- they were all delicious! Came here for a snack before getting drinks..lol. I got the chocolate dipped soft serve vanilla cone. It was exactly what I was expecting, yummy goodness. It was located in on a corner of the alley way and I was able to take a break and sit in area that I think they shared but come to think of it, it may have only been for the bar accross the way...lol. Unfortunately it was in a busy area where a lot of homeless were walking by and harassing actual customers to buy them something. Absolutely the best way to go for events like these- everyone was raving about the fresh, hot food that was made to order for each guest. The donuts are a staple but the main courses we had were outstanding. Kim, the owner, even goes so far as to package up any leftover food from the event and give it to you. We ate frozen sliders weeks later and they were still amazing.

As I walked through the food court on my way out I passed Menchie's frozen yogurt. I decided a treat might soothe my feelings so I stopped in. They offered an assortment of flavors of yogurt and sorbet from common to eclectic. I was having a hard time deciding when a young employee, named Shanelle, came over and offered me samples. Once my flavor was selected I went to the very best part of Menchie's, the topping bar. They have a variety of toppings from fruits to Nuts, cookie crumbles and what is probably my favorite waffle wafers. To make things even better, the store was offering a cup that you could fill without weighing, for $4.99! If it fit in the cup it was yours! I would definitely return. The service was friendly and attentive. The frozen yogurt was creamy and delicious! Thanks for the lift in my spirits.

I also want to add that it did look very disorderly the day we went; there was food on the tables and floors that hadn't been cleaned up. We ordered a ton from the menu including the mac and cheese, brussel sprouts, General Tso's cauliflower, shishito peppers, nachos, bruschetta, chili cheese fries, pad thai, and vegan artichoke dip. Every single item was absolutely scrumptious and my friends were blown away. They were all super skeptical about trying out an all vegan restaurant but we're completely in shock (from sheer happiness) at how delicious every item was.

I forgot this place was here as the bridge over Anthony Wayne drive to 3rd Street got taken out,…read moreseemingly forever and the bridge over Second was awol for the longest time, getting replaced by a new one that's trying really hard to be a landmark. All that made this area a big dead end it made no sense to venture into if you're not a Wayne State student or employee. This Sevs does some serious business. I'm guessing it does the most volume of any 7-11 in Detroit. Only the one on Jefferson between downtown and Belle Isle and the one in Cadillac Square offer any real competition and I'm guessing this college Sevs crushes em. Parking here sucks. I'm not keen to feed the meters and even if i was spaces are scant. Late night on the weekends, though, after metered hours, when I'm getting off my restaurant job grind and have a taste for some junk food this place is banging. Like crazy busy. Like I almost feel like I'm in an 80s movie or TV show where the convenience store is this happening hangout. There's more space here for hot food - pizza, wings, hot dogs, taquitos, etc - than I've ever seen at a Sevs and they keep it moving, too. The hot dogs are no doubt unhealthy but I at least feel like they haven't been rolling around on those metal cylinders for hours. The slurpee and Big Gulp stations are bigger than usual as well. And there's usually three employees on as opposed to the one or two you'd usually see. Even still the line at the checkouts gets stacked pretty deep - seven, eight or nine at times. One night I came in a bit earlier, around ten and it wasn't jumping, only a couple other patrons besides me. Late night, though, students with snack attacks are rolling deep. As you can imagine things can get pretty messy here sometimes with all that foot traffic. The employees do a reasonable job I'm sure but the customers just work even harder at tearing this place up. The trash can by the hot dog station just isn't close enough to it either. The cops are ALWAYS in here, too, even more than a regular 7-11. That night I came in earlier than usual was I think the only night I didn't see police in here and I've probably been to this Sevs at least 7 or 8 times by now. No good cheap dollar beverages here, they only stock the big Arizonas and even waters run more than a buck. They do actually have a couple functioning water fountains, though, for some reason. This 7-11 is just really extra and sometimes I'm in the mood for that and sometimes not. If you need late night convenience around here after the mighty Marcus Market closes and you don't feel like fighting the crowd here I recommend Midtown Market.
