I've been to Twelve Pine 100 times and slowly watched it degrade into a shadow of its former self. The coffee is good, the food is sometimes good (used to be more consistent), but the flow of customers near the register is a a hot mess. No body knows where to go and during peak hours, forget about it. All of this would typically result in a 3 or maybe 4 star review, but one encounter with the owner was all I needed to give a 2 star. read more

Came here for coffee and tea. The steamer was broken so they said no lattes or anything like that. The woman behind the counter said that she could make me an iced chai latte though. I said, sure. I watched her pour sweetened liquid chai mix from a box into a cup and add some milk. It was nearly $4. It was disgusting. If I wanted to pour some boxed mix into a cup and drink it, I could have done that at home or bought the mix myself and it would have lasted me a dozen servings for the same price. Avoid this place. Went to Twelve Pine this past weekend to pick up lunch for out aunt and ourselves. Have eaten there before and enjoyed it, but this time not so much. After we placed our order we got a call back. They were out of roast beef for the roast beef panini I had ordered. I told them all cheese would be fine. What did I get? A single slice of cheese on untoasted or pressed focacia bread with some Russian dressing all for over ten dollars. They also said they were out of creamy tomato soup, we instead got broccoli cheddar soup. The broccoli was tough or raw and would have maybe been great in a salad, but not a soup. They called us back again to ask if we wanted the pickles and chips that came with the sandwiches, I am glad we said yes as we would have has nothing to eat. I wrote to the restaurant but have not received a reply. I don't want to hear that it is hard to hire people. I paid good money and expected good food instead of the lackluster meal I received. I will not go to them, nor can I recommend them anymore. read more

Eh. I'm writing to reviews at once and it a comparison. Had 12 Pine Mac and cheese at a party I attended. It was a one note Dish that did compare to another proprietor who specializes in Mac & Cheese. 12 pines Mac and cheese was bland and lacked flavor. Not worth the calories. Went in reluctantly with my child who wanted something. Can someone tell me how a rude individual like the owner George can stay in business? Cute little shop with a cafe that had yummy food. I had the #11 tofu salad with tahini dressing. It was good but it said it came with almonds and then when I started eating it there were no almonds. I went back up and asked for the almonds and she said they don't have any - which I thought was strange - why wouldn't it be crossed out on the menu then? But she gave me some yummy walnuts instead. My mom got an iced mocha and said it was delicious. I don't recommend buying the champagne chocolates, very dry and tasteless. Friendly staff, I'd go back and try another vegan option for sure! I would also like them to have some vegan options for bakery goods but their were none unfortunately. read more

Food was fine. Store is great. But something strange I must tell you about: Their policy is that they won't give you a glass of water. You have to buy a drink or bottled water. I am so disappointed the quality of the food at Twelve Pine has diminished significantly. The food in the display case looked old and, frankly, bad. The produce in the salads looked wilted and dried out, which makes one doubt the freshness of the salmon used. I ordered a turkey Cobb sandwich and was surprised to be served deli meat. My husband got the Italian sub, and had to pull meat out of the sandwich because it was dried and hard around the edges. I am seriously sad about this ..... Have had lunch at Twelve Pines a few times over the years when visiting Peterborough, about an hour driving time from my home. The spaces to eat are plentiful, indoor or out of doors. The food is good enough. Recently enjoyed a sandwich w/ friends, we all liked our choices. If one wants water to drink with your meal, you'll have to purchase bottled water. The very courteous kind young woman at the cash register stated that the sinks are used for handwashing & meal prep so could not be guaranteed to be potable. First time I've ever refused a cup of tap water in an establishment that serves food. Seems just WRONG. All the staff present on that Sunday were kind and competent. The tomato soup here is outstanding. I would go just for that.... But the Italian sandwich (it came with Cape Cod chips and a pickle) I had was darn tasty too. The balsamic drizzle was awesome, as was the bread. I sat with my wife by the window and watched the small-town bustle outside. A friendly woman took our order and made the sandwich. Really loved Twelve Pine for the food and the shop...but the mulled cider was my favorite part for sure. Situated right in the middle of a great shopping area, Twelve Pine was part country store, part gourmet kitchen store, part cafe/restaurant and part coffee house. There is a very large selection of different types of kitchen goodies, such as rubs, spices, teas, baking mixes, syrups, hot sauces, coffee, pasta, jellies...you name it, they have it. A large wine selections, cheese case, bakery and deli section and prepared foods counter round out the shop. Sandwiches can be served cold or hot pressed, and I recommend the chili on a cold day. Plenty of seating in the back area, and the staff is pleasant, friendly and attentive. Great place to shop for gifts or souvenirs, or pick up a special treat for breakfast or a snack. There are many great places to eat in Peterborough. Twelve Pine is NOT one of them. The owner is a jerk, the food is overpriced and poor quality. I live in Peterborough and do not know one local person who eats or shops there - it's strictly for tourists who don't know any better. I used to work there years ago when I was in high school - I quit after a few months because the owner was so nasty to everyone, and I felt bad serving such terrible food and charging an arm and leg for it. It's unfortunate to have such a terrible restaurant in such a gorgeous building and location right in the middle of all the great Depot Square shops. Tourism is important to our local economy (did I mention the owner lives in New York?!) and I hope that tourists do not negatively judge our town by the terrible service and quality of Twelve Pine. If you want a great meal and a 'real' Peterborough experience, go to Harlow's or the Waterhouse, right around the corner. Marzano's is pretty good too. Bagel Mill and Pearl are great places to eat, although they're a short drive away. Do yourselves a favor and eat anywhere but Twelve Pine. Oh, and their chicken burritos? They are literally just sour cream, cheese and chicken, rolled in a tortilla and deep fried. Easily 2,000 calories right there, not to mention the fat content. Typical Peterborough restaurant, overpriced. This is a cool place and has some neat items but the food is so expensive and is "okay" at best. Everything is charged by the LB and although things like the salad looks good on display, don't be fooled, all the good stuff is on top and when the serve it you will end up getting a sliver of chicken and a LB of lettuce soaked in dressing. The owner is a complete ass to all of the employees and has no problem yelling at them in front of customers! I have been there twice when this was happening and it's pretty embarrassing for the high school kids working there, this guy literally cries over spilt milk, or should I say screams! Bottom line, chose something else unless you don't mind over priced mediocre food. read more

I have never had a bad dish here, i really enjoy the salads probably the most. The coffees are not as good as AESOPS next door. They have gelato, which is trending now it feels like everyone is pushing gelato these days. Beer selection is fun and enjoyable, the wine selection is also very good but i feel like it is over priced. The people here for the most part are very nice. Cool shop with lots of local and unique items. Chocolates, oils, soaps, beer, wine, etc. They offer hot and cold food and beverages. Some made in house, others made locally. Today I purchased a slice of Lemon Berry Mascarpone Cake. Fantastic flavor and texture. Cake a bit over mixed due to tunneling in the cake, but it didn't affect the texture. What can I say, I love this place! While others have said it is overpriced...and they may be more on the right side as opposed to the wrong side...I do not think it is outrageously overpriced. Sandwiches run about $8...but...without a side...I think that is what makes it a bit that way. Oh...but those sandwiches! The first time I ate at Twelve Pine, I had a fantastic experience! The sandwich I got was with Smoked Turkey, Smoked Cheddar, Apples, Spinach, Candied Walnuts and Maple Mustard on a Multi-Grain bread, all grilled Panini style. WOW! What a sandwich...it was quite good. At the time, I stated in my journal that this was the best sandwich I had ever had! And...I still believe that! Unfortunately, when I went back, that sandwich was not part of the menu (as their menu is updated often). But, I had a great Italian sandwich with different cured meats, cheese, some peppers and a bit of balsamic / olive oil on it. Another VERY yummy sandwich. Finally, I got some of their Jambalaya to take to work for lunch...and it was scrumptious as well. This can be a "through the looking glass" experience. It is a pretty room with gourmet foods, wine, craft beer, and food beautifully displayed. There is also nice food item memorabilia. It is a fun place to browse. But the taste and price can lead to disappointment. Admittedly, they take on a tough mission. Preparing food for serving (and reheating) hours later will contribute to a drop in texture and flavor. Twelve Pine seems to be more focused on tourists than locals. Always plenty of BMW's with out of state plates. (I think the local folks gravitate elsewhere. And there are a ton of good options nearby. Waterhouse Bakery, Aesops, Harlows) where great sandwiches, baked goods, salads, and specials are prepared when ordered. They are also owned by nice local people with great reputations for treating employees well.) And don't even think about talking pictures instead Twelve Pine. It will get you in trouble. Really. And of your child gets off leash and touches something... Danny Thibault, the previous owner, really pulled off the mojo needed to make a place like this work. read more

It was such a relief to stumble upon this place. We got great coffee, saw there were interesting looking fresh salads in the case, and pastries as well, if we wanted to go back for breakfast. NIkki B and Stephen K are right and accurate in their reviews. If I had stars for the staff I would give them a 5 stars. But I cannot in good conscience give the place anything above two. Here's the rundown: 1. Food/Salad/Sandwich Bar: Mediocre. Have had numerous hot/cold/take home meals and they are always disappointing. I always hope that they will be good but nah! The wrap my best friend ordered was DRY and tasteless. Their Greek Salad is usually ok but over priced. Once I had what seemed would be a great salad filled with string beans and squash but the string beans tasted both bitter and fishy--how do you mess up string beans is beyond me. Pizza slices overpriced and not so great. 2. Drinks. Oh my my. So here I am speaking as a connoisseur. I was a barista in my former life. And though this place seems like it loves to puff up its image like a peacock with its seemingly upscale facade - they have NO idea how to make ANY coffee/specialty drinks. Their espressos have no body, are a bit burnt with no aroma. Their lattes taste thin and the undercurrent of espresso tastes a little old or burnt. The chai tea (obviously from their chai syrup mix) is way too sweet. Their regular coffees are ok. Just ok. They serve them in carafes and they are self serve so sometimes they get a little cold later in the day. 3. Tea selections are nice. Especially the herbals. 4. Desserts - now these are actually quite (surprisingly) delicious! I recommend these. Of course I just found out that they aren't made there. Of course. SO to sum it up - the only thing in addition to getting a decent cup of plain coffee is the dessert. That's it. If you must go (like I do, but I don't like to..) then just get coffee and a slice of sweet. One more thing about the servers - they are great, great, especially having to put up with what they put up with. That's all I gotta say about that.... read more

This is a disorganized business. I was there for lunch on a Sunday. There is one line for ordering food.. Then you need to take your slip of paper to a different line to pay unless you wanted coffee then there is a third line. When it come time to pick up your order, sandwiches are in on location and hot food is in another. Once you have your food you can hunt around for where they hide the silverware. The food is at best so-so. I had a tuna melt. It was barely toasted and the inside was cold. My brother in law had a Rubin which seemed quite skimpy to me. My wife had some meatloaf. The serving was generous but it had been heated in a microwave and was hot around the edges and cool in the middle. Twelve Pine is my go-to place for an easy and delicious lunch in Peterborough. It's also the scene of some of the sweetest lunches I shared with my grandma, splitting a piece of quiche and a fruit salad, followed by a piece of cheesecake or a scoop of gelato (depending on the season). The food options can be a little expensive, but you get what you pay for. The salads are dense and rich, the soups are creamy and filling. There aren't often many vegan or vegetarian options, but there's usually something that can be adjusted for every diet. And there's ample seating in the sunny space at the end of the building, or outside on a nice day. The marketplace has additional options, from olive oil that you dispense yourself to specialty chocolate, beer and wine, and home goods, perfect for any host gift or other treat. read more

A gourmet food shop that wouldn't be out of place in Boston or Cambridge, Twelve Pine has an excellent selection of beers, cheeses, sweets, and more, and it also has an area where you can order sandwiches and other meals, then dine in a bright room with large windows and relatively comfortable tables. As far as the meals go, the reuben at Twelve Pine is excellent, with high-quality corned beef and fresh bread, while the veggie and hummus sandwich is every bit as good, with delicious hummus stuffed into tasty bread. The chicken chili is also impressive, with lots of chick peas and beans mixed into this particularly healthy version of chili, and the desserts at Twelve Pine are something special, with the Bailey's Irish cream cake and the chocolate spoon cake both being suitably sinful and decadent. Soooo.....why only four stars? Two words: Kenny G. Sappy, syrupy, ersatz piffle disguised as victory music piped in over the sound system made me lose some of my appetite on our recent trip to this place. Closing my eyes, I felt like I either just finished a 5K run or was lazing around next to a fireplace at a ski lodge--both positive visuals, mind you, but also visuals that come with a high price in the guise of smooth jazz. I had a tasty meal in this deli/marketplace that made for a nice lunch. I had a chicken salad sandwich which was quite good, and a very rich chocolate bread pudding after that I shared with a friend. I was pleased to find a small but nice selection of wines and beers, along with some gourmet cheeses, desserts, honeys, jams, soaps, chocolate bars, and bread mixes. This place has a small cafe style seating area where you order food at the counter (which also features many types of prepared foods and baked goods). Got an Italian soda and shared a bag of cookies. They also sell wine and other goodies. There are only 2 single unisex restrooms, so there was frequently a short line during a recent busy Saturday. All in all, a nice place to stop in for a quick break. I wouldn't choose here if you are a large group or need more space. I was treated very well here by all the staff. They were super friendly and helpful. There is lots to buy here, grocery wise. Fresh meats, breads, cheese. The cafe serves delicious soups and the first really unique sandwich I've eaten in awhile. Some of the wares are over the top for me, such as the wall of herbs. Take it from an RN...herbs have their use but can be really dangerous, and not FDA approved. But I do wish I could still get kava kava, which was basically a non-prescription xanax. Back to the point--this is a nice place to stop after hanging out at Edward McDowell Lake. read more

I love eating here - and have for probably 20+ years, since they were in that tiny location on Pine Street. I live in CA now, but every time I get back I head to 12 Pine for the Chicken Burrito. I like their other food, but the burrito is the best thing on the menu. In addition to the great food and desserts, 12 Pine has a fantastic selection of wine, beer, gourmet chocolates, spices, oils, etc. No offense, but things you don't expect to find in small town New Hampshire. The staff is one of the best things about the place - always friendly and helpful. I don't know what the training program is like or how much they pay but other companies and restaurants should duplicate. If I lived in the area, I would probably eat at 12 Pine several times a week.
