Not an actual bar. This must be an Air Force joke since the address is on a restricted base and is not actually a bar.

Tailored Smoke Cigar Lounge has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Newport News! I've been…read moretwice now, and both experiences have been amazing. The first time I visited, I came because a friend recommended it. I used to work in a cigar lounge, so I was curious to check out the atmosphere for myself. The cigar side was packed, so we started on the non-smoking side, and honestly, it was still a great experience. The drinks were delicious, the music was on point, the atmosphere was upscale and welcoming, and the customer service was top-tier. Once we made our way over to the cigar side, I asked for recommendations. The staff took the time to guide me to one they thought I'd enjoy, and they were absolutely right! I loved it so much that when I came back, I already knew exactly which cigar and drinks I wanted. On my second visit, I also ordered food, and it was delicious. There's a $10 cover charge for non-members, which I paid the first time because I wanted to see what the lounge was all about. After such a great experience, I decided to become a member on my second visit because I knew I'd definitely be back. If you're looking for an upscale lounge with great drinks, good food, excellent customer service, and an amazing vibe, Tailored Smoke Cigar Lounge is the place to be. I highly recommend it and will definitely be returning!

Tailored Smoke Cigar Lounge, 605 Pilot House Drive, Newport News, VA 23606…read more When I am traveling on business or pleasure, I always make the effort to support local brick and mortar cigar lounges and shops due to the onslaught of Government regulations that make it difficult for these lounges and shops to stay in business. I have visited cigar lounges and shops across the U.S., Asia, and Europe. I saw some good ones and some bad ones. I am in the mindset that you must experience bad ones so you can recognize the good ones. On a business trip to Hampton, VA, I visited Tailored Smoke Cigar Lounge. Without a doubt, Tailored Smoke (https://tailoredsmoke.com/) is the WORST "cigar lounge" I have ever visited. I am loathed to call this a cigar lounge. The bad experience starts before you enter. It is trying to be a private lounge so you must pay a fee to make a reservation to get in. Once you are there, you are patted by like a common criminal. I do mean patted down. This off-duty cop seemed to take pleasure in slapping your private areas. Once in the door, you will find that you must pay another fee for a cover charge on top of the online fee for the reservation. However, you can use the online fee against the cover charge or your bar tab. Biggest issue is that they may not be able to find your reservation. Additionally, when the reservation was found they were confused whether it was for the smoking or non-smoking side (really???? Is this a cigar lounge or not?). We had to wait and got shuffled around for 30 minutes until they could find us a place to sit. We were shoved into a corner where people trampled over us as they navigated around high-top tables. My friend made the mistake of lighting up a cigarette. Instead of politely telling us cigarette smoking was not allowed, a woman in brown velvet-like jump suit got right up my face pointing her finger at me yelling to put the cigarette out. She was yelling so loud and so animated that she was spitting in my face. The waitress had no idea what spirits were available. We would be told one thing only to have waitress come back and tell up "ohhh we do not have that." Did I mention that in addition to the entry fees, you are required to purchase two cigars. Now, do not let the website fool you. The cupboards were bare. There were approximately five (5) labels to pick from. I only recognized a couple. I am talking about real throat burners. Overall, this is NOT a cigar lounge. I am not sure what to call it. After about an hour of the rude, unprofessional staff, the worst ambience (those pictures on the website must be from some other Tailored Smoke location), and poor service I had enough. I was ready to go after getting slapped in the junk on the pat down outside, however, my friend had arranged this, so I decided to give it a chance. Huge mistake. That is an hour in my life I will not get back. Cigar smokers....DO NOT GO TO Tailored Smoke Cigar Lounge, 605 Pilot House Drive, Newport News, VA 23606. It is disappointing that this place is allowed to call itself a cigar lounge.

This location was extremely busy and packed when I visited, and honestly, that's usually a good sign...when a place stays that busy, clearly something is going right. What really stood out to me, though, was Colton. He went well beyond what I would normally expect from someone working the host/to-go area. He personally made sure my steak was exactly how I wanted it and genuinely seemed concerned about whether I was happy with my order. That type of customer service deserves recognition. He knows how to take care of customers, and in my opinion, he deserves a raise! I do think there is an opportunity for improvement when it comes to management. There was a manager positioned at the front during my visit, and while I obviously don't know her personally or whether she is generally a nice person, her disposition toward customers did not come across as particularly friendly or welcoming. More importantly, I noticed a clear difference in how warmly she interacted with certain customers versus others. When you're in a management position, customers should feel like they're receiving the same level of courtesy and hospitality across the board..you shouldn't pick and choose who gets the friendly version of you. It was especially noticeable because she remained at the front for much of the time, closely overseeing the hosts, so those of us waiting on to-go orders could clearly observe the differences in her interactions with different patrons. If you're going to be that visible and hands-on with your staff, I think it's even more important to model the same customer service you expect from them. Thankfully, Colton did exactly that. Despite how packed and hectic the restaurant was, he remained attentive, personable, and genuinely cared about making sure I left satisfied. Colton was absolutely amazing and was easily the standout of my experience. Management should recognize him because employees who care about customers like that are a huge part of why people come back.

We…read moreheard this was a cool little hidden gem, in a building that's been around for a couple hundred years and is partially underground and very "speakeasy like". Super glad we stopped in, the vibe is incredibly comfortable and cool and envelops your soul. Ambience: super cool, comfortable, a little dark, exposed brick walls with plaster patches, hardwood floors, heavy wood and leather furniture, incredible bar that is more like two bars in an L-shape with an unbelievable selection of anything you could ever want. This place is very solid feeling, you just feel safe and tucked in. Service: was fantastic, we met the executive chef named Ty who greeted us before we even sat down, just saw us sitting in the foyer bar and came over to say hello, very cool. We were greeted and seated by an absolute sweetheart upfront named Jackson and our server couldn't have been nicer, her name was Casey. Food: the food is all served tapas style, smaller plates, but well curated with interesting and innovative ingredients with beautiful presentation. Unfortunately, they were out-of four things that my wife wanted, she didn't want all of them simultaneously, she wanted one and they were out, and that happened three more times. Apparently, they often order in smaller batches and buy locally so sometimes they don't have as much as someplace buying in bulk, that's as much a positive as a negative, not a bad thing, just a bit of a bummer that she didn't get her first few choices. She ended up with the duck tacos which were good. We started with the brussels sprouts, which were also good and had nice presentation. We also started with bacon wrapped tots, the dish came with four of them and chili ketchup, beautifully presented, and rich, creamy, crunchy and yummy. I ordered the braised beef and fry bread and it was my favorite thing, very beefy flavored, warm and rich on soft pillowy fry bread with some cool crunch and crispy, thin plantain slices, very good. We started with a Chocolate Cherry Old Fashioned that was delicious. Overall the food was very good and the value was decent at around $12-$16 per plate. Overall: this was a really good experience and I'd go back to try some of the things they were out of and enjoy the incredible bar and stellar, considerate, thoughtful service. Definitely recommend!

I visited the establishment at night, so it was dark and I don't have many pictures of the decor but it is nicely decorated. I do think that the restrooms could be better. They really do have a laid back, lounge atmosphere with low lighting and both intimate seating at booths with conveniently placed tables for smoking hookah for eating - and floor seating. The musical selection is mostly old school hip hop earlier in the evening. They told us a DJ would be there that evening, but he didn't arrive before we left a little after 10pm. Hookah is really my friend's thing, but I must say that their hookah is the best that I've had in the area. Period. Their menu items were a bit pricey, and we were there for the hookah - so I ordered the shrimp appetizer that came with a spicy citrus remoulade dipping sauce. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, not rubbery or chewy all. They were crispy on the outside and arrived to the table fresh and hot despite the fact that there was a moderate crowd. I will be returning for hookah and to try more of their menu items!
