Recently had a 10 year old 46" LED Samsung tv go on the blink and called George at TV Tech, based on the quality of the reviews and his location. He made a house call (should mention that my tv is hooked up to an entertainment system that mixes legacy equipment and newer technology). He took the tv back to his shop then got in touch the next day to give me the bad news -- an honest opinion that the circuitry was so worn out that to fix it would cost more than it would be worth. So, with some good guidance from him and his associate I bought a new 50" Samsung, had them set it up for me -- hey, I'm 81, and helped me with the complicated hook up. The top third or so of my LG 65" LED TV and a narrower band about 1/4 of the way up the screen were dimmer than the rest of the screen. A little Googling told me it was probably that some of the the LED backlight strips were failing. When I requested diagnosis on it from several shops, George at TV Tech was the only one to respond the same day, so I arranged to take the TV in to him. The shop is a back room in a small building. The business's unprofessional appearance was a yellow flag to me. Every bit of its floor space is so crammed with large-screen TV's sitting on end that I couldn't physically enter it -- another yellow flag. George had to contort his way through a narrow path next to the wall just to get in and out. George took possession of my TV in the hallway, gave me a "receipt" scrawled on the back of a business card. He only takes cash or checks, not credit cards, so here were two more yellow flags bordering on red. He said he'd call me with the diagnosis. He's very friendly and personable, but my confidence level was low about the reputability of this operation. He did call me the next day and said the "power supply is weak" and the "panel is weak, too", so it is not worth repairing, and offered to dispose of the TV for me. I instead retrieved it from him and took it to another shop (CES), which diagnosed it as having failing LED backlights, which they can replace for $195 (vs. by replacing the TV for $500-1000). I suspect that TV Tech's "disposing" of the TV would probably have been to repair and resell it, having collected my diagnostic fee ($75 vs. CES's $65, by the way) and a tidy profit on the sale. I could be wrong about that, but I'm certainly glad I didn't leave the TV with TV Tech. I won't be doing business with them again. read more

I called and received a same day appointment with the owner coming out to my home personally and checking my tv. The owner had to take my tv with him back to the shop so that he could further investigate the issue and fix it. I was EXTREMELY pleased with the level of customer service I received with this repair shop. My tv was fixed in 2 days and the owner brought it back to me and set it up. If I ever have any more issues this is definitely the place I will call. He is fair and he explains everything before he starts to complete the work so that there will be no surprises with cost. Furniture had to be taken apart and moved to get access to the TV, which was done professionally and without incident. Great customer service, great work, reasonable cost. My 11 year old, 50", Zenith plasma TV's power supply went out again, 7 years after the first time. The reviews for a good. local, repair shop pointed to TV Tech, so I called them up. George kept in good contact with me during the diagnosis and repair stages and the cost came in right at the quoted estimate. The screen's picture seems sharper than before the failure of the power supply, which shows me George did a fabulous job of rebuilding that unit to optimum specifications. I was prepared to hear him say the TV is fried, so I was window shopping the costs and features of the newer TVs. At over $2,500 for anything decent, I was hoping the old one could be brought back to life. It was and it looks great. I'll now be able to wait a while before having to replace this one.
