I found Tutorbees for my second grader who is struggling with grasping reading and math concepts. They sent a wonderful, kind tutor to our home to work with my son. Because of a misunderstanding on my end we ended up getting a new tutor and she is just as friendly and caring as the first. They send updates and reminders via email! So helpful! The owner Eli has been very helpful and prompt to reply. He has handled our situation very professionally and with care! The negatives have been that I have had to come up with daily activity for them to do. They use the curriculum that we have but I was finding that ours wasn't working so I am now coming up with their work. Personalized services that deliver results. Plain and simple. Eli takes the time to understand where specific challenges are, and focuses on ensuring all related fundamental concepts are understood. This is not just about getting a passing grade and learning circus tricks (though he can teach that as well). The approach is about learning and understanding the fundamentals. I have tried a bunch of other "tutoring" companies in the past: Kumon, private tutors, Mathnasium, and even a few highly rated cards companies on Yelp. My high school aged son struggles with math, and I needed to get some better support. My son was done with worksheets, bland math practice packages and bad tutors. Some so-called tutors even made errors when helping my son! I tried out Tutorbees after hearing from a friend, whose older high school kid was getting help with test-prep--and my son has been receiving tutoring for the past 2 months. They are doing really well, and I think I will most likely stick to them for the next few years! Here is what I like about Tutorbees: 1. They really know what they're doing. They're teachers, know about Common Core, and have a good grasp on specifics going on in school districts. In our case, they knew about the "integrated math" craze in my district, and I didn't need to do much to bring them on board. That's refreshing-- most of the time, I have to be the expert and help tutors understand what's going on in the school/district. 2. The tutor has his own materials-- books, websites and worksheets (used sparingly). He knows exactly which books we're using, and what is covered. Again, this is awesome, and I don't need to "tutor the tutor" like I usually do. 3. They are very clear on pricing-- no gimmicks or games. I got a free hour when I bought a package, and invoices are delivered via email, and very professional. They accept credit cards and even PayPal. 4. Our tutor, the owner, is really great. He is so patient, and helpful-- you can tell he loves helping people, and he will even give advice to my son on how to take better notes, review for tests, and eliminate options in multiple choice tests. I really appreciate these little tidbits, which an inexperienced tutor could not give you. Also, he doesn't just solve problems for my son; instead he asks a lot of questions, and helps him to get the concepts on his own. 5. I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty excited about online tutoring-- looks really convenient and my son would probably love it. Again, if the tutor is good and knows what he/she is doing, this could be a great next step for us. Overall, the quality of support is really great, and a good value. Highly recommended! read more
