I'm going through a house remodel and put new door locks on rooms with important documents. I also had three dogs and two cats in the room while workers were in the house. Someone accidently locked the door and shut it with the keys inside. I have some lock picking experience but could not unlock the door. I called one service but they were unavailable. I saw a lot of good reviews for this business. I called and explained my circumstances to Mike, who said he could be out in 20 minutes. We stopped by early Saturday morning to get some keys made. We have searched high and low for a place other than a car dealership to make copies of our car keys. The man who runs this place is my new hero. I will elaborate. Over a year ago, I broke my car key inside my trunk's lock. Given that my car is older than dirt, there's no other way to open the trunk. I'm a procrastinator, so I never stopped anywhere to fix this problem. My existing copies were valet keys apparently. Ace Hardware didn't tell me that when they copied it. So anyway, I spied this place next to Trader Joe's and I figured it was worth a try. After de-coding my existing valet key and several combinations, he figured out what the master key codes were! After all that hard work (it took like 30 minutes), he only charged me $25 for coding my key. What a deal! No more Ace for me, those dumb nincompoops. Called to get a quote for changing a mailbox lock. First of all, the person on the phone was not friendly and sounded annoyed. Told him the type of service needed and asked how much. He asked me the location (not far, about 10 miles away). He quoted a minimum service charge of $100. And said that might or might not include the cost of the lock. I asked if a tech could come out in the next few hours. He sounded stunned that I would even fathom - his response was, "Umm, not today. More like this week." I have 2007 Acura TL Type-S that I bought used earlier this year. I typically use the electronic key fob buttons to open/close the doors. What I realized after awhile was that I couldn't open the car door manually with the key. The key wouldn't go into the door lock all the way and did not turn properly. Not an urgent problem, but if the battery or electrical malfunctioned in the car, I wouldn't be able to open the car manually with the key. I called Tustin Lock & Safe earlier today and told Tim the situation. I dropped by shortly after and he came out to look at the lock. He brought some tools out and and inspected the lock and was able to find just a piece of debris that was lodged in the lock keeping it from operating properly. ***TIM FIXED THE PROBLEM WITHIN 15 MINUTES AND CHARGED ME ONLY $10.00 !!! *** I called California Keys Locksmith was going to charge me $175.00 (whether I brought my car to them or they come to my house) to fix my problem. I usually take my keys to be copied at Ace Hardware but the last time the keys didn't work and I had to go back 2. This time, I had 6 keys to be made and they are the "Do No Duplicate" ones. So I decided to find a more specialized place...I yelped it and found Tustin Lock & Safe. Tim was the guy who helped me, he was very nice and knowledgeable. Since I was making a copy of a "do not duplicate" key, I needed a letter authorizing me to make copies of the keys on the company letter head. I had issues emailing him the copy sent by my office and he was very patient about it. We are also looking at safes so I asked him about it and he was very knowledgeable as well about safes as well. I totally recommend this place and will definitely go back when necessary! We will be going back at safes since he said their prices are $30% below retail! read more

Just purchased a custom deadbolt for a residential area. Working with them was very good, very laid back, and they didn't trying to push more expensive locks on me when they found out that I wanted slightly better than, "HomeDepot," quality. They were going to sell me a Schlage "outer lock" and replace the cylinder with a high security one, but found out it wouldn't work, so they set me up with a "outer" deadbolt that was less expensive to work with their recommended core. Took a star off because their hours are a little limited (no weekends) and I thought they may have not been as "vigilant" about the dangers of lock bumping, picking, and vulnerabilities of Medeco locks. HOWEVER, my research may be incomplete as I don't have much experience with the security industry - mostly lost a star because of the hours/convenience. They also had a lot of cool safes, key blanks, and gadgets like the camera peep hole. One of the only dealers of "BiLock" local. Highly recommended and I will go back, even though it will be kind of a pain with the hours/location from where I work/live and my schedule. read more

Got 2 locks rekeyed here. Cheapest way to rekey your locks for any reason! I forget the exact price, but I think it was ~$15 per lock if you bring it to their retail location. This is ALOT cheaper then a mobile company which charges you ~$30-40 just to go to your house, then $20+ per lock to rekey. So overall, for those 2 locks, instead of $80, we paid ~$30 with 2 keys. The only drawback is that you need to know how to disassemble/reassemble the knob into your door. Took me awhile to figure out since the knot fell off when I unscrewed the screws, but if you pry it off slowly, and look at the mechanism, it's quite easy. To take apart: unscrew screws on the side of the door, where the latch assembly is--- take off the faceplate and latch assembly---SLOWLY pull the both sides of the door knobs apart (while looking at the mechanism-what goes where). OR, just look at a video online. Service was quick, and friendly for my transaction. read more

Best place ever if you want your car keys cut. I went to ACE, HomeDepot, Lowes, all showed middle finger for cutting the keys I brought. Also, called a handful of other 5-star locksmith places like "Joe Joe's Lock and Key", "Airport Lock & Safe", etc. They all said no, they couldn't do it. I called this place and was told that they cut car keys (already programmed the remote and transponder). It took him 2 minutes to cut. Both keys fit the key cylinder and started my car without any issues. If you need you car keys cut in Irvine, this is the place to go! Do not waste your time elsewhere. We were in need of a spare laser cut key for my son's car and came across this place as one of the few that has a storefront where you can walk in. I called and spoke to Tim and explained what we needed, and since it was after their store hours (open in the mornings at the store and then mobile service in the afternoon), I told him we would swing by in the morning. The location is kind of tucked away in a small complex, but signage was ample and made it easy to find. Walked in and Tim remembered me from the day before (he even remembered the year of the car). He did the replacement plastic housing for the key remote and cut a new key without all the remote functionality for a very good price. When we went out with him to make sure the keys worked, Tim did something that was probably just a habit for him but said a lot to me. Before he sat down in the car, he did a quick "pocket check" looking for sharp objects that might poke a hole in the seat. Wow! One of the most efficient lock I've been in. I was just here this morning at 9:30am. I was looking around for a locksmith, specifically in Irvine trying just to duplicate a small desk-drawer key. Went to several that told me the key wasn't duplicable. One told me I had to contact the manufacturer and order extra keys. I went in this morning, asked if they could duplicate this. They looked at and within couple of seconds said it would cost me $5 per key. In and out within 5 minutes. Surely enough when I got home, it worked flawlessly. They honored the Yelp discount with no problems (once I mentioned it, they remembered it without me having to remind them. This is a big plus to me). They gave me a quote/estimate with no problems. We were having our locks re-keyed. They had a set price for up to so many locks. When they came out I actually had extra locks (forgot to count both sides of the deadbolt because both sides require keys). The extra charge was reasonable. They were done pretty quickly and there was no mess. Only issues is that when I scheduled I was told they would be there at 9 am. When I called at 9:30 I was told that there first appointments on Saturdays weren't before 9:30. The guy was there at 9:40-9:45. I would still recommend them. read more
