We live for good coffee and on this trip this one is the first one that made Americana the way my wife likes it. Not bitter, not burned, smooth. Highly recommend!!!

    Michele R.

Were Dante to write the store sign for this place it might say this: "Abandon diets all ye who enter here." My husband asked this: "Who are YOU kidding?" when in Keystone I suggested we just pop in for an Americano to go given I knew Turtle Town uses Lavazza coffee and good coffee is as rare as hen's teeth in this part of South Dakota. My husband was justified in his cynicism of my motive, of course. Because the candies are all home made here and how can one resist, right? Plus the aroma of the fresh chocolate and butter and sugar is intoxicating so one can be forgiven, right? Not to mention there are no calories when on vacation, right? Ah. We can find all kinds of excuses to sin in diet territory, can't we? So in addition to the good Americano made by the friendly owner, we bought a bag of fresh chocolate covered almond toffee (for my husband lest we think he sinned not) and a really big dark chocolate cashew turtle for me. Devored in the car with our coffee on the way from the Borglum Museum down the Peter Norbeck scenic byway in Custer State Park, I felt not the least bit of guilt. However in the mode of it being the opportunities we do not take on vacation bringing more regret than the temptations to which we succumb, that Turtle Truffle I didn't buy here is what I was thinking about later. Which would lead me to the Turtle Town in Hill City. But that's another story for another review. If you're in Keystone, you really should stop in here. But, I'll offer up watch you step if you're walking or rolling in as the little ramp in the door is tricky given the door that operates of the two swings right into the coffee counter. Not so much a problem going in, although it may be too narrow for wheelchairs or strollers now that I think of it. But it is a problem coming out because it is an odd slope if you're not paying attention with your attention focused on your bag of candy. I nearly fell on my keister. And wouldn't that have been Divine punishment for my indulgence? As to our choices, I found the toffee just a bit sweet for me, but great texture with lots of almonds. The cashew turtle was absolutely perfect. I dream about that wicked good turtle. With a nod to my Yelp friend Lydia L., I offer this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91Y9IUw58K4

$3.99 for a piece chocolate and you get to enjoy it mixed up with the other $30 worth of chocolate. Way to go Turd Town! Terrible place!

Do you enjoy curly hairs in your food? Do you like your server to cough into his hand, touch his beard and then finger your $3.99 piece of fudge? Head on down to Turtle Town!!  Could not have been more disgusted with the way the dude actually touched every single piece of chocolate bare handed and literally saved a piece from hitting the floor with his shorts and still tossed it into the sack for me to take. Not sure how they run things I'm SD but this is a reportable offence to the CDC and Covid-19 aside....this is unsanitary.  I wasn't even paying attention until another patron warned me to watch how he was handling everyone else's food and sure enough he put fingerprints on everything.  Stay away from this place until they get things in order. Look at all the recent reviews. This place is a turd'le for a town that's so pretty. So feel free to enjoy eating feces at Turtle Town!!  To the owner...manage your staff! Someone will get sick here and you are liable for their actions. I paid for the items and immediately threw them in the trash....wasted $26 to save the next guy from getting these contaminated nuggets. Rest assured I've already filed and received a refund...thank you Amex for protecting the US citizens.

What a great selection!! Coffee, handmade candies, ice cream, and fudge. You've got to try the Lake-Effect pothole. The caramel latte was one of the best I've ever had. The people were friendly and the store was clean! If I'm ever back in the area, I'll make the trip.

Found this on our way to our hotel. Lots of good ice cream flavor to choose from. The staff was very helpful and they keep the place clean. I dig the fact that the locals come here to get their ice cream fix and still open and helpful to tourist

I had a tasty morning Latte with Macadamia Nut syrup here. Also picked up a Dark Chocolate Haystack (coconut) and a Dark Chocolate Almond Cluster. The dark chocolate is pretty good and I liked both items I ordered. Friendly staff. Good decor showcasing their truffle and Keystone.

Yum-yum-yum. Where all the fun is at!

Rude and immature staff. Making fun of customers. Would not recommend this place. Staff should look in mirror before judging others

Rushmore road is handy as you'll drive right by it if you're going to Mt. Rushmore. 2. If you're a total chocolate addict and MUST have some chocolate, it's quick and easy here. 3. The staff are very nice. 4. They do have very, very cute gifts. But, as a chocolate snob, I don't taste the best ingredients in their truffles. It tastes like there's some sort of emulsifier/hardner in their chocolate, paraffin? Artificial ingredients or stabilizers, preservatives? Not the best brand of chocolate to begin with, slightly too hard for the true consistency a Truffle should be. If you're wanting a quick treat, or a cute gift for someone, this is the place to go to, but if you're a serious chocolate lover or Truffle snob, it's worth the 45 minute drive north to Deadwood and go to Chubby Chipmonk instead. They might have fabulous caramels, or brittle, or other goodies, but not the Truffles.

My husband and I spent oodles of dollars there over the years. I have since moved from the area, and on a recent visit "back home," I was dismayed at the changes to what used to be a charming little store, and a real gem in the Black Hills. The business was recently sold, and the new owners have turned it into a pitiful version of the charming business it was for years and years. They got rid of all of the vintage antiques. They now devote almost half of the store to fabric and quilting supplies. It's ironic that they carry such a vast amount of kitschy made-in-China crap, especially when so much of it touts ultra-right conservative, "patriotic" sentiment. I left the store feeling disappointed, offended, and just downright sad.
