My wife and I are from California near San Franciso. A few weeks ago, we were on an 18-day driving tour to visit relatives and friends in the South. To be honest, just a roadside bar/grill that offers a simple yet tasty menu. Cousin and I were passing thru. Yes, this place is a dive but looks like a good local place to catch some live music. The owner Casey was great (our server), and the shrimp Po Boys were very good. read more

Sooo I love visiting local places, and this place DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We walked in on Friday afternoon after being denied service at the local casino because of age restriction. Needless to say I was hungry, upset and tired of driving! On our way back to Orleans, we saw this spot and decided to stop in! , As we walked in, it was a bit intimidating as we are a family of 4 MEXICANS walking into a local bar/restaurant in a state that I am no very familiar with. We are a military family (I am a Retired Marine, my son an active duty Marine and his wife active duty Navy) needless to say, my wife has the hardest job out of all of us, and although we are from Los Angeles, things are different here! Inside the establishment were some locals sitting there and ALL STARES WENT TO US IMMEDIATELY! We walked in and I asked for a table, Part of me wanted to turn around and leave but then GENEVA's attitude changed my mind!! She was the lady behind the bar and the person who greeted us upon entry. We Sat down and Geneva came with the menus, her demeanor was That of a welcoming, kind person who makes you feel comfortable and at ease. I asked what she recommend to eat and She immediately told us the must-try dishes. I can go on and on about our great experience at this place but I rather you experience it for yourself. The food WAS DELICIOUS! The chili fries were my favorite, the po boi was good (because it was my First time trying it) but their burgers were also a 10!! Overall, this place was awesome and I was glad we stopped by to try it. The ambiance is wonderful and the other patrons were also very friendly. Looks a little daunting from the outside, there were few cars in the parking lot and a sign that said don't feed the alligators but the reviews were good so we went in. Casey was great, chit chatted, shared that alligators like Cheetos, then introduced Pedro the one eyed gator. Quite interesting. Food was good too! Turtle landing is absolutely fantastic! My husband, brother in-law, and myself included all agreed that the hamburgers we had were some of the best burgers we've had in years. The fried mushrooms were absolutely massive and delicious dipped in the ranch they served them with. Definitely a go to if your a mushroom lover like we are. Walking in it felt like home and the boss lady ,as my husband has dubbed her, really made you feel like you were family. Stopped by here on a whim driving through the area after a swamp tour. It's a bar near a canal with the friendliest down home people you could ask for. The catfish poboy sandwich was the best we've ever had. Fresh bread, and perfectly fried catfish piled high on top. Could have made a meal out of all the catfish they put on it. We were so happy we stopped and chatted with the friendly owner who made us feel at home. Make sure you check out the deck out back for the alligator who comes to visit. Yup. Several reviews mentioned that the burger was great. That is an understatement! We're on the return legs of a 3 1/2 month motor home trip, having started in Tucson AZ and all the way to the Carolinas. I've eaten a few burgers on this trip and I'm not exaggerating when I say this burger is the BEST in the nation. Drive in Diners and Dives, get out here! Janyne is the owner and cook and she knows what she's doing. From the first bite, I knew I was going to eat it all, which I seldom do. When I was finished, my tastebuds were begging for more. The locals were some of the friendliest people I've ever met. The service and friendliness of the server, Janyne's granddaughter Casey added to the fun, especially when she took us to the back deck and called the alligator. Turtle Landing has all the comforts of Southern charm. The servers are friendly, the patrons are welcoming, the food smelled wonderful although we were there for drinks only. You can walk out to the deck and enjoy the Bayou and check out their live entertainment times. You can also use their boat dock if coming in on a canoe, kayak, or other boat. They have a rather busy pool table, so you may have to wait awhile for your turn, no worries, as there are plenty of new friends to be made and to talk to. We had a very enjoyable time! My family, friend and I were in New Orleans on vacation and took a private tour with "Uncle Dave." He took us across the state line into Mississippi and to Turtle Landing. He said that this was a place where we could mingle with the locals. The place overlooks a small body of water with vegetation, a couple of fishing boats...very pretty. We saw an alligator swimming around as well. Uncle Dave's family was there, playing pool and just hanging out. It was very laid back. The people were very nice and very friendly. I had sweet tea and the best po' boy ever- a dressed up soft shell crab po' boy. It was so good and I told the lady (owner maybe?) that it was the best meal I had had on the trip so far. read more

When you first get there you might feel a little trepidation, I promise it will be okay, you are going through the correct door, your eyes will adjust to the darkness in the bar/grill. The staff are sweethearts. The natives are friendly and funny. They will poke at you a bit, if you tease back you are in for a lot of fun, especially if you are a Yankee (anyone from above i10). The food was great, cooked to perfection, large portions and there is even bacon on the house salad. The meat was moist, the ingredients were fresh and everything came to the table hot. We might stay in Pearlington long enough to do lunch There is a juke box with a variety of music...not all up to date but a lot of fun selections. Great burgers, and properly cooked to order. Med rare as requested. I honestly can't remember the last time I was asked how I wanted my burger cooked, and quite a few refuse to cook them med rare. While the burger was pretty good, the stars really must go to the family that owns, and the patrons who frequent, the Landing. I had planned to hit Turtle Landing for a late lunch on the 7th. Instead, due to a cold front and cycling headlong into 25-30mph winds all day bogging my heavily laden, high drag bike down, we didn't arrive until almost 5pm. No chance of reaching Bay St. Louis. Being SOL and JWF due to bad planning and poor weather reports, and unable to access the internet on my phone to find a solution, the owners let us doss out back on the bayou, and a gentleman even provided us with a tent and some sleeping bags for the night; thus saving two lives. In short; good food, and better people. Pearlington and Turtle Landing are two unexpected gems. A bit rough cut, but fine quality just the same. Forget I-10. Detour south to Hwy 90 and go through Pearlington. read more

My friends and I wanted to eat after taking the nearby swamp tour and this place was super close. We were a little nervous about (what I'll Call) "authentic ambience" but the food and the friendliness of the service by far compensated for it. This place is a real gem if you want to experience something local and untamed by tourism. We all loved our food and the "southern portion" size which is essentially two meals for the price of one. RESTAURANT ALWAYS CLOSED ON TUESDAY!!!! On our way from Bay St. Louis to Slidell. Found this restaurant on Yelp. It was out of the way, but decided to go anyway. Yelp said it was open until 10 pm. Drove all the way there only to find out the restaurant is always closed on Tuesday. Not their fault, but Yelp should be updated. read more

This was one of our last stops before the hotel for the day of sightseeing new Orleans. I wish I could give this place a good review. Being out of towners on vacation, we decided to try this place based on yelp reviews. It was the only restaurant within 8 miles of our Swamp tour. When we walked in, it was the darkest place I've ever seen. The bartender was polite enough, but told us there was no food on Monday or Tuesday. There were two old cajuns sitting at a bar who were helpful. They said the only place nearby was Indian Village, a local gas station. There we were able to find pizza and snacks. read more

Stopped here following a swamp tour on a recent trip to New Orleans. The place was quiet and unassuming, and our waitress was the nicest southern woman we met on our entire trip. We enjoyed a positively delicious shrimp po' boy while sitting outside near the bayou under the Mississippi sun. Doesn't get much better than that.
