Story time. It's funny. My wife took me to her favorite place in Metairie. No names mentioned. We were early in our relationship at this point. Up to then, I'd stifled most of my comments on the food quality of her favorite place. But on this day, my facade was broken. I told her, this just isn't the quality I knew or grew accustomed to. Fast forward a little while, she comes to stay at the apartment I was in. I ordered Los Cantaritos on DoorDash. (Don't do it, just go in. Or call in to pick up) I already knew it was delicious food!! (Was a habitual door dash customer already. So I knew! She looks at the to go's and skepticism is TO THE MAX. First bite... she's "ohhh ahhhh this is so good. I was not prepared." So alas, off we go to find this place to sit down inside, and enjoy it FRESH FRESH! Even to go, BANGINNN!! I drive us to the OPPOSITE SIDE OF TOWN. Cause ya know, I'm secretly blonde. And took us right to the wrong spot. We put that thing in the maps, and headed off to what became, THE ABSOLUTE BEST spot we've ever stumbled into. We REFUSE to order to go anymore. DoorDash? Hot and yum!! In the restaurant? I thought it was good to go... omg... So anyways, at some point many visits later, she says to me, "I get it now. I can see why you thought my spot wasn't it. We have NOT been to another spot since. Owners? Commendable. Staff? Outstanding. Food? You. Have. To. Try. It... Most spots have that similar flavor. You kind of always know what a Cali burrito will taste like. A changa. Etc. etc. The flavors here are so ROBUST. We can't tear ourselves away from this place. We've begun to wonder what's in the food... Either way, we eating it! Should I even start on there Beria? OMG... Lastly, I hope this review finds all of you well!! If you've made it this far, just go. Go again. Go three times. But just go. You, will not. Regret this place. Los Cantaritos should be on your radar if it wasn't already! read more

My family and I always come here. Last time we went was on Cinco de Mayo. We like to come here for Mexican and Slidell has plenty of options. Combo" and it consisted of four items though the chalupa is really just a tostada. And I asked about it and he confirmed the tostada thing was in fact their Chalupa. Kinda disappointing. The enchilada and taco sauce tastes canned not made in house. The ground beef flavor and texture was very good. Wife's chimichanga was merely okay. The guac, ground beef, and hot chips were my favorite. Some of the chairs are garbage. We've eaten here at least 20 times in the last 3 years and would have rated it 4*. We ate here Wednesday night and it was packed full because very few were open from the snow. I always get the Carnitas dinner and it's always fresh and juicy. What I got Wednesday night was not only cold but was dry like it was a few days old. The food was really great! So great I didn't even get a chance to take pics of the apps. Our server was fantastic. He was very eager to give us service with a smile. Stopped in for dinner and was greeted warmly and led to a table. This location has had several aliases and so I was curious to see the latest rendition. They have done a nice job of freshening up the inside and created a number of semi private eating spaces which is a plus as the previous open seating "cafeteria" style layout was loud and made table conversation difficult. So, kudos for that. The prices are also reasonable and in line with other Tex-Mex restaurants in the area. The food? It was solidly good without being great. Beef taco, Beef enchilada, Beef and bean burrito. The taco needed some help in the presentation area. The burrito and enchilada were plated separately and were smothered/drenched in a tomato based sauce and it was too much. The burrito was a little doughy. So I didn't eat it. And these too could have been helped by the presentation. I think all of these things are fixable and I wish them the best. read more

Only customer in the place 1500 in the afternoon. One waitress only had one table and could not get it right. Simple order No Onion and Peppers. Food comes out to the only table in the whole place and full of onions and peppers. Call her over and showed her and she said well it get mixed up on the grill. I DON"T GIVE A RATS BUTT. Not my problem, fix it. But no. She walks away. Looking for about five minutes for the waitress and had to walk to bar and she asked you need something. WTF do you think with my empty glass. Asked for refill of tera unsweet and sure enough sweet tea. This woman could not get her name right. Poured the tea in togo cup for wife and she came and took it. Will have long talk with management at later date. Will not be back iwll head to Carrettas. For Los Cantaritos just screwed the pooch. DONE. Garbage. read more

Stopped in today as a recommendation to try for lunch today. I will say that the food is totally horrendous and the service was mediocre. Not sure how you a place can be empty and all you do is order 4 hard tacos and nachos, and they arrive at the table within 5 minutes which was nice but they were a completely soggy nasty mess. The chicken nachos were soggy corn chip soup with zero flavor and not to mention instead of covered with queso it was just shredded cheese and had been put in the oven. The tacos both beef and chicken could not even be picked up. The taco shells were completely soggy and everything has to just be eaten with a fork. Sad to say this is the first and last time I will ever visit this business and definitely would never recommend them to anyone. Too bad can't leave a negative star review!! The best bang for the money in Slidell on Mexican cuisine is still EL PASO cause a lot of food for the money and nachos and tacos are never soggy when brought to the table. read more

We've been to Los Cantaritos a few times now that we moved to Slidell. In my opinion this is the best Mexican food in the area. I'm from California and haven't been able to find good Mexican food since moving here. Los Cantaritos is the best we've found. Their fajitas are really good and you get a ton of food. Ok I would first like to say that the choriqueso is the best I've had anywhere, EVER. This reason alone is enough reason to give this business your money. And I bet you're wondering where the beautiful picture of it is. Well...there isn't one because my boyfriend and I were so excited to eat it that it was gone before I could think to snap a pic! But let me tell you. Their chorizo queso is LOADED down with fresh vegetables (mainly onions) and fresh meaty chorizo. It even comes with four, warm tortillas that you can load down with the sloppy cheesy goodness. Another perk of this restaurant: reasonably priced margaritas! And - they were very good! Not too strong but don't worry there is definitely a kick. I ordered the asada burrito and it was pretty tasty. My boyfriend got the O combination platter and it was sooo much food for the price (which was around $13). We both came home with leftovers for the next day. The waitstaff was super lovely. Shoutout to the girl that complimented my hair. I have absolutely no critiques for this place. The takeaway: if you are in Slidell and want Mexican food, choose this place. We've visited this location twice. On the first visit, it was decent. The food was good, but not extravagant. The frozen margaritas was super sweet, and weak. My kids chicken tenders were okay though. We was able to split the fajitas. It was filling for the price. Our second visit wasn't the best. We were never greeted. Though it was a wait, there was no one at the stand to take our names. When one of the employees finally walked up, he never greeted us, or smiled.. we ended up leaving. This is a relatively New Mexican restaurant in Slidell but it never disappoints. I must have eaten/ takeout 4 times now and every time, you look forward to going back. So I did a takeout today and ordered everything from fajitas chicken nachos ($12.99) to chalupas vegetarian gemelas ($7.50 but won't recommend it) to chicken quesadillas dinner ($10.50) to classic fajita chicken for 2 ($24.99) to burrito bandera ($13.99) for a grand total of $77 bucks. I mean, 4 out of 5 good dishes is 80% success rate and I'll take it anytime. El Paso, is still more reasonable price wise and quantity wise but Los Contaritis makes up for quality albeit slightly More expensive. Customer service is always top notch so Pls do give it a try. read more

Save your time, money, and happiness... go to Carreta's Grill. It's much better and very consistent. The first time I went to Los Cantaritos, it was amazing!! HOWEVER, it's been absolutely terrible ever since. I've ordered practically the same thing everytime: #17, It comes with a Chile Relleno, quesadilla, and beef and bean burrito from the lunch menu and then whatever the closest plate was on the dinner menu (only difference is the dinner menu item came with a chicken quesadilla instead of a beef one) The second time I visited, the chicken quesadilla was horrible, I couldn't eat it. It was as if they emptied an entire can of chicken on a tortilla, folded it up, and didn't cook it all the way. My entire plate was soaked in some sort of juice, everything was soggy. It was horrible. The beef also tasted wet, canned, and flavorless. The chile relleno breading was horrible and not cooked all the way, but the inside was fine. The third time I visited, the Chile relleno wasn't cooked all the way, when I cut it open, the cheese wasn't even melted. And of course the outside wasn't cooked all the way. What is going on? There were also flies and fruit flies flying around everywhere. Last but not least, who ever thinks they have the BEST margaritas in town are sadly mistaken. Mediocre at best, just saying. This is the best Mexican food in Slidell! The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice and bright with Mexican motif! The service was quick and the food was still hot, because their to-go containers come in sturdy tin foiled dishes. The seasoning is mild and not all about how spicy you can make it. we ordered the combination fajitas for two and they were $34. There was literally enough steak to make one and a half fajita tacos out of the entire plate. There was enough chicken to make two fajita tacos on the plate and then there was 5 pounds of vegetables.. I brought the concern to the waiter. I brought the concern to the manager and they explained to me that only 8 ounces of chicken and 8 ounces of steak came with the order. They have no idea the fact that 8 ounces equals half a pound when I tried to explain them what 8 ounces and tails, they asked me if I'd like to pay for another . the part that flipped my lid is they started talking in Spanish thinking I didn't know what they were saying They called me a dumbass in Spanish amongst a few other words, so I will do everything with my power to make people aware of how this company treats its customers. read more

My husband land I was traveling thru Slidell and decided to stop. We figures it would be "just another" Mexican restaurant...we ordered the Texan fajita (shrimp, chicken and steak). We were totally surprised at how good it was! It was so good we couldn't stop eating. Will definitely be back for more! SUCH GREAT SERVICE SINCE WE WALKED IN, everyone was sweet and spoke to us and greeted us with such a sweet attitude. Well the food was ok. It lacked an authentic "Mexican taste" i came with my mom and i had 3 shrimp tacos and a chicken quesadilla. the rice and beans were actually reallyy good , the tacos were good but the chicken quesadilla was not tasty - it was really really wet and was overstuffed with meat. My mom had a chicken chimichanga (wet as well) and a hard and soft chicken taco ALL OF OUR TACOS fell apart soon as we picked them up. The salsa at the table was watery and the drinnks weren't all that great. I enjoyed the service over the food but i highly doubt I'll be back to the restaurant. read more
