I've gone to chain establishments for meals but this time for dessert. The dessert menu was pretty well thought but veg limited. With no calorie count...or information on the website on the nutritional break down it was pretty hard to really decide dessert to dessert. They all looked like a smash of similar items. Surprisingly it was a vall of ice cream coated with cornflakes, fried then drizzled with cinnamon and chocolate and syrup served on a tortilla and topped with whipped cream. It was a nice treat. A fairly decent place to meet up with friends. The food was as expected however the service was lackluster. Our server disappeared 10mins after sitting down and only returned to close the bill. We had to ask two other servers to assist us throughout dinner. read more

This review comes after dining here twice and having taken-away several times. I've ordered one of their shrimp and scallop pasta dishes (take away) here before. It was good. Portions were fair, and I believe garlic bread came with. I want to write about what I had most recently. Onion Rings (side order) -- $7.49'ish. The breading is light, not very crispy. They're all about the presentation. The onion rings were nicely presented.... stacked on top of one another. They were also served with a mixed ranch and BBQ sauce. It was "different".... Pad Thai -- $15.99 Why did I order pad thai at this restaurant? I'm not sure. I wanted to be WILD, I guess.... Anyway, I shouldn't have ordered it. NOT because it was not good ...well, it was drenched in the sauce, which was good ... but the sauce ended up overpowering the pad thai. Sooo, it was like drinking the sauce! Eek. This used to be a favourite place for my wife and I as the fish and chips were the best that we had had experienced as the fish batter was always nice and crisp but light. Needless to say the service has drastically diminished. Way too much batter and undercooked fish on 2 occasions within 3 visits. Tonight was the second time where fish had excess batter and was still dough appearance. The manager was called out and shown. The reasoning was premade to keep up with pace of customers (this wasn't the case two months ago when it was dead quiet). The redo of the fish was better however fries on plate were half of what was on original plates for both my wife and I. We were provided a desert at no charge but considering the portion size of the fish and chips it did not justify nearly $40 for 2 people. Desert service was no better as we waited nearly 15 minutes despite the restaurant not being busy. We found the paint session was loud which distracts from the meal and atmosphere. Not in a rush to come back and it's too bad it has gone downhill. A management / staff review is in order if they want to stay in business and improve customer service. read more

We have come here on occasion and enjoy the food. The problem is there service continues to get worse. We went for my 7 year old's birthday and arrived at 6pm. We left after 8pm and only had mains. The host desk seems chaotic and disorganized. We should have left seeing how the front staff operated. Once seated took quite a while to meet our server took about 10 minutes to get our round of beverages (mostly water, two kids drinks and one beer) which was forgivable. We waited about 70 minutes for our food. My plate was hotter than the surface of the sun and was clearly under a heat lamp for a long time while others were not. I got my favorite wings which I opted for on the Barbie which means the fire them after being cooked. Half of them were charred black. I did not send them back as I did not have another hour while my family ate. Getting a second round of drinks was nearly impossible during the whole period We skipped the desert eventhough it was for a birthday. A manger came to our table shortly before our meal arrived and apologized for the wait. They probably realized as we were all not looking happy by any means. At the end of the meal they gave us three 25 percent off your next visit coupons which were valid only for the next two weeks. We thought that was a joke. We gave our coupons to all the large tables around us so someone could at least gain from our misery. This was not the first bad experience at this location and enough is enough. We will continue to go to their other locations as they seem to be well operated in comparison. There are far too many other restaurants that have decent service and similar food. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you are going off peak say 2pm in the afternoon. read more

A party of 6 at 2pm on mother's day. The place was 50% full. Place at a table near the kitchen. Food arrived at 2:50, yes 50 min after sitting. Ordered the bison burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was hot but well done, the bun was singed on the edges but was cold to the touch. Am not sure it is worth the cost. read more

Brutal! After and hour and a half of waiting, we finally received our dinner. My 7 year old sons burger was like a hockey puck and the buns were burnt, plus they forgot the cheese. The big reason I try to get to Turtle Jacks are their NY butter wings... Love them, except this time at this location. Small and extra greasy. As usual when you sit in the bar area, the service is generally poor and it was. The bartender did his best most of the time and didn't get much help, but when you don't get decent and consistent service it takes away from your meal. Five of use had dinner 3 teens and 2 adults. I was pleasantly surprised , this place is just around the corner from my house. I have a problem with $20 + regular burger with a tiny basket of frozen French fries .....not to mention " add cheese for an extra $1.99 ....it's an f'in burger ( like some places that rhymes with ski )ground beef and a slice of tomato unless it is gold plated .....is ridiculous !!!! French onion soup was a joke. 5 quarter size croutons in small bowl very little cheese, soup tasted like soy sauce was poured in it. Return it for beef barley soup ehich was even smaller and had maybe 2 tiny cubes beef, sprinkle of frozen mixed corn peas in it. I am sharing this incident that happened to my friend's mom, Allison Sandra: THIS IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! I have never been so mad in my entire life. As you all know from my Facebook my mother has been battling stage 4 metastatic Breast Cancer, she has a very rare type which there is no modernized treatment for. As a result she has been seeking alternative treatment in Germany. As you also know we have been working very hard to create different ways to raise donations to help support my mother in her very expensive journey. Recently, thanks to her friend Sharon Vettoretto, a silent auction has been created, which will take place October 4th at 10 am. For this auction my mother and Sharon have gone around to local businesses in Guelph to ask if they would be interested in contributing to the donations that will be auctioned off. Many businesses have kindly donated, which we are forever thankful for. Today my mother made some follow up calls to businesses she had dropped off letters to, to see if they were interested in donating. Turtle Jacks on Woodlawn was one of those businesses (if you can call it a business). When my mom initially called she got as far as introducing herself before she was hung up on by the female (because i will not call you a lady). Thinking that this may have been a mistake my mom called back and who she got on the other line, in my eyes is not a human being. A guy (because i will not call you a man) answered the phone right away with a "Ya???" (great customer service). Despite the lack of respect my mother continued to introduce herself and state why she was calling, when she was RUDELY interrupted by the guy saying, "ya, I'm kinda in the middle of my lunch and i don't do advertisements". Shocked, my mother continued to state that the reason she was calling was not for an advertisement but rather an inquiry about a donation. Which he replied "if you want a few coupons come and get them". My mother was so shocked and offended that she couldn't even respond, she hastily hung up the phone and began crying. This person on the other side of the phone was none other than the OWNER of the restaurant. I DONT CARE WHO YOU ARE 1) you do not speak to a customer like that 2) a simple "no thank you we are not interested in donating" would have sufficed. You should be ashamed of yourself for talking to someone who is not only suffering from a life threatening disease, but USED to be a customer. You are supposed to be a leader, and I would say you horribly failed to uphold the turtle jacks reputation "Since 1992 Turtle Jack's has been committed to providing our guests with the best dining experience possible." As a side note my uncle being as enraged as the rest of our family is, called the restaurant to speak to the owner who, not so politely, told my uncle that he did not care if we stepped foot in his establishment again, and that he can run his business how he wants. We waited for 45 minutes to receive our meal and another 45 minutes to clear the bill. All our proteins were overcooked and low quality. The service was poor and the restaurant manager seems happy to hide in the bar area while the restaurant collapses around. The price of the meals command better service and quality than what is being served. The hosts were very young and inexperienced and were immature. We used to enjoy Turtle Jacks but I will not be returning. read more

This is a typical bar grill experience. We went on Fathers Day lunch & was surprised it was far from busy but did get busier before we left. The restaurant was clean & nicely appointed & we were seated promptly. The wait staff were friendly & took our drink orders & delivered in a timely fashion. We thought the menu was limited for our tastes & a bit pricey. Three of us had burgers & one a vegan type salad. The burgers & fries were were delicious even though the quantity of fries were a bit light. Overall this was our 1st experience at this location & not sure if we will go back again. read more

Went to the Kitchener outlet. Ordered the pot roast sandwich. The menu makes it sound delicious. What they bring you is a joke. To paraphrase Ron James "the cow didn't even feel what was shaved off it's ass." Sent back the cold sandwich and got a replacement from the manager. She stood there while a bite was taken into(the only) piece of fat that stretched inches before pulling out of the sandwich. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. Never again. Not at any Turtle Jack's. read more

I came here last night for dinner and the food was not good, at all. I actually like Turtle Jacks, so perhaps it is the location? Because I've never had a bad experience before. Our drinks were good, of course.. I had the Muskow Mule and he had Mill St. Organic to start and I enjoyed my Mule but it was more on the sweeter side, but still good. We had the Bruschetta to share and I thought it was okay and he thought it was good and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the Pineapple Salmon and I was expecting it to be good but I didn't enjoy it at all.. it was bland as ever and the rice it got served with was boring.. there was string beans and other veggies in it, I enjoyed that but the star of the meal was Dry and Bland. I had to add a lot of salt to it (which I normally wouldn't have to do). I'm eating the leftovers now and put some organic coconut amino on top and now it taste good.. I'm not sure if I'll come back to this location again.. the customer service was okay, but if I ever come here, it will be for drinks or because of other reasons. I wouldn't go out of my own way, to come to this specific location but perhaps it was just my main dish because my friend had some chicken dish and it was saucy and looked pretty good (I didn't taste it). Came with family, food appeared rewarmed (ribs, chicken parm.), bison burger was 'ok' but mixed poorly (spices in center), for price (more then competitors posing as bit upscale) i would go to a Kelsey's or Montanans. Then, they started art class - lady running it was very loud almost yelling at the participants spread across back of restaurant ( She could have just walked around and instructed). It was neat to see, and actually we discussed doing it at the table, however, it was disruptive for those eating around restaurant and others you could see were standing to see what was going on. I went there with my sister and brother in-law. I ordered the turkey avocado club. The bread was amazing! The turkey was way too dry and there was way too much guacamole on it and it kind of overpowered everything. It was good, though. And the bread was so tasty it made up for it. My sister ordered some spicy wrap thing that was way too spicy and sweet potato fries, which did not come with the aoli mayo that it was supposed to have with it (she had to ask for it a few times). My bro in-law had the bison meatloaf and said it was ok, but a little dry. The servers were very nice and attentive and the atmosphere was good, so I would go there again. read more

Just finished a team dinner with close to 40 people. My comments or concerns are not about the service given that large groups can be a challenge for any restaurant. Service was painfully slow but the wine glass I was given had remittance of bleach or some other harsh cleaner... this was followed by 3 others with chips. The main issues was the broken (jagged) tooth pick found in my tomato soup which was far more concerning. Yes, after complaining to the manager my meal (only) was comp'ted . Not sure this was suppose to be any sort of compensation given I had not eaten anything. In general the food is bad but serving dangerous meals is far more alarming. Please go to one of the other decent restaurants in the area and avoid this place. I will be looking into their health and safety exams as clearly this kitchen is a hazard. read more

Ordered the "Award Winning" ribs. Not sure what award they were given? I received a half rack of leather with bones in it. They were kind enough to bring me a new plate of tough ribs and took it off of the bill. Very disappointed. Wouldn't recommend nor will I be returning. read more
