You cannot go wrong with any of the cakes if you inherently like coconut, lemon, carrot cakes, birthday, and others (seasonal favorite is berry cake- Light, buttercream frosting, fresh berries, the best!) However, indulging in the cakes is not the main reason we come here. The people who open and close the store, who make the cakes, place them tantalizingly on the shelves, have dog treats/samples available, and the ability to somehow uplift any depressing mood (esp. our chemotherapy treatment days) and even my Shiba Inu's day, are the reason we chose this location. Cici (shortened) has done it all and has gone above and beyond to even greet Rufus, our dog as we walk past the store to give him a treat. She remembers what cake my mom enjoyed during chemotherapy, and always lifted our moods. I don't leave reviews on service, usually the food is what's important. This is one exception where I need to echo other reviewer sentiments that CiCi, Lucia, and Dennis have made this location our go to location because their professionalism, hard work, friendliness, empathy are all palpable. Thank you Cici, Lucia and Dennis for the cakes and cupcakes, (even making a cream cheese frosting cupcake instead of buttercream on the spot, because we asked). Cici we are grateful for sharing your time with Rufus as he has a new friend in DTLA. Moreover, for your kindness and ability to always sweeten and uplift even our roughest days.

When I arrived, the front door is locked but there's 2 staff inside. There's a QR code at the door & that's how I ordered my Triple Berry Cake slice. I'm not proud to admit it but I'm not very tech savvy at all but I was able to navigate it with ease and within a couple of minutes I ordered, paid, then waited about 7 minutes and my order was handed to me. No muss, no fuss. There were a couple of round tables outside of the shop which they probably set up nicely during the day for outdoor dining. From the looks of the displays up front and on the inside display cases, the goods look topnotch. From my previous order, the 2 slices I purchased were so decadent & highly satisfying. Yes, $13.50 per slice is a bit much but it is huge and you really can't finish it in one sitting. I must've gotten back to it about 4-5 times. Both cakes kept fairly well for a few days in the fridge. It is a really a well made cake with quality ingredients. I ordered a box of six cupcakes: Birthday, Red Velvet, Strawberry, S'mores (New!), Matcha Strawberry (New!), and Pumpkin Spice. I also ordered a slice of their Triple Berry Cake and Proper Carrot Cake. I didn't get a chance to try the two new cupcake flavors since those were reserved for the birthday gal, but I did get to try some of the Strawberry Cupcake, Triple Berry Cake, and Proper Carrot Cake. The Strawberry Cupcake was good, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary. The Triple Berry Cake, however, was so light and such a pleasure to eat. It's a classic vanilla sponge cake layered with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries between light and fluffy whipped cream. The Proper Carrot Cake was definitely proper! It was everything you'd want from a classic carrot cake--filled with warm spices, walnuts, and raisins, with layers of walnut-caramel filling and cream cheese icing. It was much richer than the Triple Berry Cake, but equally satisfying in a completely different way. When I picked up my order, I noticed that the DTLA location doesn't offer the same cafe service as the Santa Monica and Melrose locations, where you can also get breakfast and lunch items like egg scrambles, pancakes, salads, soups, and sandwiches. The Downtown location also didn't seem to have quite as extensive of a cake selection as the other locations. Either way, I was still very satisfied with my haul, and most importantly, the birthday gal loved how pretty all of the cupcakes and cake slices looked! All in all, I'll definitely be back whenever I'm craving their cakes--and next time, I want to try their cookies!

Just the teeniest bit of crust to hold the filling and it's basically just pure custard... soooooo so good. No frills bakery. Not here for the aesthetics just good cream puffs. They sell bread and cakes too but we are loyal cream puff enthusiasts. 50c charge for using credit card if you don't hit $10 I think but... 2 bags of cream puffs and you're good to go. I cleared these so quick. Buy more than you think you're going to need and ESPECIALLY if you plan on sharing!! These cleared out in SECONDSSS before we even got the freeway back home. Easy parking. There's only 1 row in front and usually taken (since they're right next door to BCD) but there's the whole rest of the plaza to park in so don't even worry.
