I had a GREAT experience here! Yesterday my aunt and I came to Susie's to get a little sweet treat after work since it was her birthday. The girly behind the counter was so sweet and answered all of my questions regarding the top flavors, prices etc. We ended up getting mocha, red velvet, chocolate and a seasonal flavor 4 pack of cupcakes. While my aunt was on the phone, the other girly came out and we all started chatting it up! The vibes were great, the cupcakes were great and I'm so glad we spontaneously came in. Best Cupcake ever!!! After that said I would be honest with you I never thought that this small Place in DTLA would give me so much joy! The personnel were friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and amazing! I got 3 mini cupcakes ( red velvet, chicken and vanilla) my coworker got 2 cupcakes ( peanut butter and coconut) when we got to the hotel we discovered that she( the employee) gifted us some cupcakes on my box I found 2 of each flavor and my coworker got an lemon and a red velvet! I don't think I'll be going to SusieCakes anymore... in fact, I know I won't. I stopped in for a slice of red velvet cake for my (belated) birthday. I thought it was odd when I ordered my slice, I was immediately handed a box that was already pre-cut. The box felt light but was all taped up so I didn't really know that was inside. When I finally opened the box, it was a small piece of cake that is literally HALF the size it used to be. In fact, a piece of cake in the past would last me 2 days (I've been going to SusieCakes since they only had a couple stores-- many many years ago). This one? Not even a slice, but a sliver. Gone in a few mins... $8 bucks for that?!! And the taste was pretty bland (both the cake and the cream cheese frosting). Not like I remember at all. It's time for a breakup, SusieCakes. read more

They also have cupcakes, birthday cupcakes and cakes that you can have customized for the occasion. Their carrot cake is outstanding too! Good thing they serve milk. My favorite is called the Susie's nutty... Two soft peanut butter cookies and in between is a peanut butter buttercream frosting/filling that is so good that I would literally eat it by the gallon if I could get away with it The next thing I'm going to try is the flourless cupcake and believe it is chocolate flavored and that's going to be my next target but if you wanna get something safe, try the mocha or the peanut butter or the strawberry cupcakes. First I want to thank Leia and Ashley so so much for their kindness and going above and beyond. A friend of mine passed away this year under very tragic circumstances and his birthday was today. My partner had a hard week knowing their birthday was approaching and had mixed feelings about whether or not to celebrate our friends birthday. Sad to report a pretty average experience at SusieCakes. The service was great and the store appeared to be super clean, but the cake fell flat. The celebration cake looked so pretty with the light blue buttercream and the flavor was great, but the cake itself was a bit dry and dense. I did purchase at the end of the day, so that may have had something to do with it. In contrast, the old fashioned chocolate cake was delicious and light/fluffy. Based on the chocolate cake, I'm guessing I just got a last slice of celebration cake at the end of the day and that affected the texture. read more

I work very close to this location, so my co-worker and I go a lot! Every time we go, we are met with such kindness and always have such a beautiful experience. I have also done SusieCakes through the app, TooGoodToGo, and am always pleasantly surprised at the amount of delicious things you get for $7! CC is a huge highlight of this store. She is so wonderful, positive, and charismatic. Every time we are helped by her, we feel so important and cared for! She is so passionate about making sure you get something you will like and that you leave happy. The cupcakes themselves are on another level. Such simple, no-frills designs and flavors but they blow you away. My favorite will always be the chocolate with vanilla buttercream but some of the seasonal ones have been amazing (See's Candies Bordeaux collab, Blueberry pancake, Salted caramel). With apologies to my grandmom, these cakes are the best I've had in my life! I used to think I liked chocolate cake, but now that I've had the old fashioned chocolate cake from Susie's, I see now that I was only tolerating chocolate cake all my life. Primarily it wasn't overly sweet like most are. But my faves at Susie's are the coconut tropical and the carrot cake. Well, the red velvet was up there too. This was first time visiting SusieCakes and it didn't disappoint. The staff was very friendly and helpful (with 30 minutes to close,) and the place was clean. I got large and small cupcakes, in a variety of flavors. They were moist and tasty and I will be going back. My only negative and this comes from a person who LOVES sweets, their is A LOT of icing on the small cupcakes so it was like biting into straight sugar. Terrible customer service! I literally just left this location. First, the entire time I was asking questions, the three women working barely turned around to stop what they were doing to actually look at me as they were speaking to me. Then, I asked to sample a small bite of their new lemon blueberry flavor before buying a 6 inch cake. One of the women said, "no I don't have any" then quickly turned the cake toward me so I could see it then turned back around and continued doing what she was doing. I turned to my daughter (who I was with me) and said that we would go to the Manhattan beach location so I could sample before buying. As I walked out, when I looked back, I saw one of the women shaking her head and commenting about my request. Awful, awful, AWFUL customer service!!! Super rude!! As Larry David would say "Pretty, pretty, pretty good" haha I picked up two 9" cakes today for work birthday event -- Marble and Lemon. They were heavy AF!!! I thought it was cheesy that they charge $ to put writing on a cake that's already $60+ so I opted to not do it remembering we had little flags at the office haha... The cakes were a hit but I was a bit surprised the cake was so cold and hard sitting out room temp for a few hours so warning! Unlike Nothing Bundt, where they ask you if you'll be serving within 3 hours, this place doesn't communicate the need so plan accordingly. EDIT reply to Mandy: Thanks for the info about leaving out for 4 hours. This detail should be shared before placing the order though. I picked it up at 1:30p during my lunch break to serve at 3:30pm so it did me no good to know this after the fact. I think that's why Nothing Bundt asks what time the cake is being served when you order it to ensure it's thawed enough prior to picking it up. read more
