It's amaaaaaazing! Has the best vegan croissants and chickpea turnovers ever! Not to mention more...highly recommend it all!

I just ordered 300 cupcakes for a party and Sugarplum Pastry provided excellent customer service! I was able to customize my favor boxes to exactly how I wanted. I was able to choose the flavor of the cupcake, the type of frosting (buttercream vs. cream cheese), and the colors too! Darlene came super early to help set up all the cupcake favors and even provided these little holders so that the cupcake wouldn't tip. I love the little details! Thank you Sugarplum Pastry! read more

de.li.cious. A friend special ordered desserts from Sugarplum for me for my birthday so my party could enjoy the sweet deliciousness of Sugarplum's espresso brownies. I have good friends. Chewy, rich, decadent -- and the brownies survived one long plane ride! They were individually packaged in clear wrapping, with a cute sticker and matching polka dot ribbon. Perfect to hand out, a hit with all the guests, and great to throw in a bag for on-the-go munching. The only thing I was sad about was when the brownies ran out. Too young to die -- sweet, angelic goodness they were. And perhaps I did most of the eating. So what. It was my birthday. In short -- wonderful. read more

If you're looking for cupcakes but want to stay away from the factories like Sprinkles, you should try Sugarplum Pastry. Darlene also provides other delectable desserts like mini creme brulee, various sophisticated tarts and cookies. I reached out to Darlene because I was looking to do cupcakes for our wedding. Darlene was very professional throughout the whole process. She responded to emails promptly (unlike Blue Cupcake) and was very helpful. She understood how stressful planning a wedding could be and was even willing to help out with other aspects of our wedding that was not related to the cupcakes (e.g., decorations, finding a wedding coordinator, etc.). Not to mention, her cupcakes were delicious! We tried the red velvet, vanilla bean, lemon, and the carrot cake. We especially loved the vanilla bean. The cupcakes were very moist without being oily and the cream cheese frosting had just the right amount of sweetness. I requested for simple yellow fondant flowers as decorations which were adorable but she does custom decorations as well. Although I didn't get to use Sugarplum Pastry for my wedding (unfortunately, family was just cupcaked out after 6 rounds of cupcake tastings and wanted to do something else), I would definitely recommend Darlene for any special occasion. She is definitely on my list of preferred vendors. =) read more

Sugarplum Pastry offers a fabulous alternative to the standard gift basket! The goodies are YUMMY! Many of my friends and relatives received holiday gift baskets from Sugarplum, and they could not say enough positive things about the presentation, selection and taste of the products! The best desserts! Have a party to cater for? From cupcakes to cookies to creme brulee and much more, Sugarplum Pastry is the way to go!

Sugarplum catered two of my parties last year and both were huge successes. Guests could not keep their hands off the Red Velvet Cupcakes, Panna Cotta, and Creme Brulees...all are highly recommended. Great service, high quality desserts, very reasonable prices, and the owner is just as sweet as her company's name implies. You rock Dar! read more

Sugarplum pastry definitely excels in a great variety of desserts, but the true strength lies in the attention to detail, the quality and the freshness of each dessert. Combined with a personal yet elegant and customizable touch to fit almost any customers needs, Sugarplum goes well beyond any service and taste that cannot be achieved by most! As an example of just how good Sugarplum really is, I have had the luxury of having ONLY 1 or maybe 2 mexican wedding cookies because that's all I could get my hands on. This is entirely due to my fiance who tries to leave me some, but can't resist eating the whole bag by the time I get home from work. I definitely give 110% support behind such a talented, innovative and passionate pastry chef of Sugarplum Pastry, Darlene Kwan. read more

Darlene and her desserts are GREAT! I've had samplings of her items at numerous events and I've never tried anything I didn't like - you can't go wrong with any of the items she offers. This past weekend was the first time I used her for my own event and I had a great experience not to mention that all of the guests were buzzing about how delicious the brownies were and how cute the packaging was! Taste and presentation of desserts are top-notch and Darlene's professionalism and ability to accomodate and personalize me and my event could not be surpassed. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using her services for your next event! read more

highly recommend! Sugarplum Pastry catered our 150+ guest cocktail gala event at the LA River Center & Gardens last fall. Darlene came in uniform with an assistant to serve her own delectable creations: 100 lemon creme brulees, 100 double choc chip cookies, 100 mexican wedding cookies. The desserts were applauded by many of our guests. She arrived early to set-up. With limitations from the site location, not having a stove nor fridge, she came prepared to transport and store her desserts. Darlene is very easy to work with and had plenty of ideas during our brainstorming conversations regarding our menu. Would highly recommend her and her desserts for your event. read more

I had red velvet cupcakes from Sugarplum Pastry at my wedding and they were absolutely delicious! The cupcakes were moist and the cream cheese frosting had the perfect amount of sweetness. We had a few left over from the reception and were delicious even the day after. read more

We were fortunate to receive a YUMMY holiday basket, and WOW -- we are still smacking our lips. The unique and super fresh treats like gourmet marshmallows and cocoa tasted like a bit of heaven. Everything was packaged so beautifully we (almost) hated to unwrap. These are not ordinary gift baskets, and there is nothing ordinary about what's inside. ENJOY!! read more

I emailed Darlene awhile back (towards the beginning of 2014) when searching for a baker/company to create wedding favors for my wedding in October 2014. We started emailing and I could tell right away that Darlene would be great to work with. She was always very responsive and offered suggestions, but didn't try to impose her will on me. I had an idea of what I wanted, but I wasn't sure of all the details, and she did a great job of filling in the blanks for me. I knew I wanted some sort of edible favor, so she gave me ideas of treats that would do well and the ideal packaging for them. We worked together over the course of 6+ months, and Darlene was awesome at following up with me when she said she would and also dropping favor samples off at my office while I was at work so I could try out different flavors. Ultimately I ended up ordering her chewy lemon cookies, which were sooo delicious, and they really worked with my wedding venue and general theme. I ordered the packaging and a personalized sticker that I wanted to have on the bag, and she assembled everything for us and had our favors ready days before the wedding. I was initially worried that the cookies would taste stale on the day of the wedding, but they held up really well and were still delicious days later! We received rave reviews from a lot of our guests on the cookies, and I even saw my husband's aunt hoarding extras away before she left, so I would say the favor was a success. I would highly recommend working with Darlene for your special event - she is a talented, friendly person and will do a great job! read more

The first time I tried Sugarplum Pastry was at my friend's housewarming dinner. I remember the dessert being beautiful and more importantly, tasty. Anyway, my son's first birthday was rapidly approaching and I decided last minute that I didn't want to get the usual Porto's cake this time. (even though I LOVE Porto's!) Instead, I wanted more modern looking cupcakes with a cute baby design that went with the party theme. I remembered that I enjoyed Sugarplum Pastry and so I crossed my fingers, emailed Darlene, and hoped that she would be able to do something with less than 1 week notice. To make a long story short, she amazingly agreed to make the cupcakes for the party and even more amazingly was able to create what was on my mind! The cupcakes were a huge success and everyone complimented on how cute and yummy they were! Her red velvet cupcakes were the best I've ever had! Darlene was accommodating, creative, responsive to my emails, and just wonderful to work with. I would cater with Sugarplum Pastry anytime! read more

Thanks for the bridal shower favors! Loved your cookies!!

Sugarplum Pastry catered my bridal shower and other events I've attended. Everything was truly delicious - Not only are the desserts unique, but they're well presented and delicious. My favorite has been the blackberry panna cotta - SOOO amazing! I highly recommend Sugarplum Pastry for any type of party or get together - Plus, Darlene, the owner is so fun and easy to work with! read more

Sugarplum Pastry is the way to go if you're looking to indulge friends or family (or yourself!) with mouthwatering treats. The taste and quality of the desserts are exceptional (I've tried the lemon creme brulee, mexican wedding cakes, apple tart, and butterscotch pudding and can't wait to sample the entire menu!) and the presentations are stunning. The best part is being able to order directly from Darlene, who will explain all the options and help you decide what will best suit your needs. The personalized service and amazing prices make it hard to even consider buying pastries anywhere else. read more

Darlene was wonderful from start to finish for our wedding. Not only did I enjoy working with her, but my family was charmed. Most importantly, the cupcakes looked and tasted amazing, and everyone raved about them for days. Thank you Darlene and Sugarplum Pastry!! read more

Darlene (the super woman behind Sugarplum Pastry) prepared a dessert buffet for our wedding this past December 2009. The buffet consisted of bite-sized chocolate espresso brownies, French apple tarts, lemon curd tarts, and mini vanilla cheese cakes w/ berries. Everything was delicious and our guests walked away with happy tummies. Darlene was so nice and and accommodating to our needs and budget. She doesn't have a storefront so she brought samples to our apartment for us to try. (She was very prepared--she not only brought the sample desserts we chose but she also brought plates, napkins, and utensils.) Also, it was always easy to get in touch with her and that was very important to us as we were planning our wedding. She did a great job putting the dessert buffet together; it was very pretty. Overall, Darlene's customer service was excellent and the desserts were super yummy. (I wish she had a storefront so I can pop in and get my espresso brownie fix.) I would totally recommend that you have her cater your next event! Do it now. read more
