This review is long overdue! We had Hungry Bear cater our wedding this year and they absolutely crushed it!! We had so many guests come up to us during and after the wedding (even months later) saying the food was the best they've ever had at a wedding. Everything from the passed apps to the mains, desserts, and late night food was amazing. Food is a huge priority for us, and we wanted to make damn sure that our wedding food delivered, especially since so many of our friends and family know us as major foodies. We loved Hungry Bear's asian-fusion menu and even the salad was unreal (and I'm not a salad girl...get the Little Gem Salad y'all - it's both beautiful and delicious). We had opted for family style and had hangar steak and miso black cod for the mains (but seriously, you cannot go wrong with any of their choices) and a late night pho station. I'm salivating just reminiscing about the food. The drinks were just as good (feel free to reach out to the team with your favorite flavors/ spirit to brainstorm drink ideas or even give them a specific recipe). I opted for a yuzu gin cocktail as my signature drink, which was delightfully refreshing and very well made. On top of that, the service was next-level. The waiters and bartenders were all very kind, funny, and professional. The team made sure my husband and I were constantly taken care of--full water glasses, plates of food, cocktails, everything. One of my best friend has celiac disease, and a staff member came up and told her she was personally "in charge of her" for the night. She was blown away. I was blown away -- especially since we had our wedding at a "bring your everything" venue where everything was brought in to build a "kitchen" - Hungry Bear made sure that food safety/ cross-contamination was a non-issue. Madeleine was so kind and helpful through the whole planning process. On the day of our company holiday party, they showed up right on time and ready to go. The food was amazing!!!! We did A LOT of research into caterers for our wedding, because we wanted the focus of the wedding to be around the food. We spent a lot of our relationship dining out all over LA- literally everything from one and two star Michelin restaurants to taco trucks, so I feel pretty confident to tell people that HB is the caterer you want for your wedding! We did some tastings prior to meeting Hungry Bear and right after the tasting we knew that we wanted to hire them. I'm really picky about how food is seasoned and I had no notes. They did a custom appetizer for the cocktail hour that was a big hit and everyone raved about the food - even the hard-to-please elderly Asian crowd. :) We made some adjustments to the menu after the tasting and it was all noted and executed flawlessly without us having to worry about anything going wrong at the wedding. We also initially didn't want a salad to be served at the wedding so we didn't try it at the tasting and it ended up being one of my favorite things that I ate. Going to warn you that people went BANANAS over the food at cocktail hour so make sure that if you use HB, tell your coordinator to set aside appetizers for you, because it will be overwhelming in a good way. lol. All of our other vendors actually told us after we booked them that HB was their favorite caterer leading up to the wedding, so we had no worries leading up to the event. People raved about the service. I actually was so worried about our guest's food allergies that I almost forgot to tell them about MY OWN dietary restrictions and they took care of me all night. What a pleasure to get to experience Hungry Bear catering at the wedding we were privileged to attend last night. Their attention to detail and execution of their delicious dishes were outstanding! As a gluten free/dairy free person (yup, I'm one of those‍) I was impressed with server Melanie who introduced herself and explained that indeed my dishes would be Gluten and Dairy Free. That's HUGE and very much appreciated to not wake with tummy discomfort. The whole menu was delicious! HBC is the best caterer out there! A few of my friends have booked them in the past and they came highly recommended! My husband and I had a tasting with Jennie and TJ prior to booking and we were blown away by the flavors that we had. The part where they took it to the next level is that we got to sample the miso cod dish which was not one of the ones we originally selected and that became one of our favorites. For the family style meal which was recommended for HBC because of the venue we chose, they would pair the sides with the main course and I can say 10000% they know how to do the perfect pairing. We ended up starting off with an Asian Salad and then miso cod and the braised korean short ribs for the mains along with the sides chinese broccoli and miso carbonara pasta. All our guests kept raving about the dishes and the appetizers so my husband and I are really glad they loved it as much as we did! We spent a long time looking for a catering company for our wedding. We were trying to find a company that would allow us to do a multi-course family style dinner and incorporate both Chinese and Korean food in our menu. We were so excited when our search was over after we talked to Jennie on the phone and had a tasting with Jennie and TJ. We were happy with the food items that they offered on their menu, so we did not need to come up with a custom menu. Their menu includes a variety of Asian and Western cuisines. It was hard to narrow down which food items to try for the tasting as well as what to choose for our wedding menu. We appreciated how flexible they were with us when we asked for specific requests such as displaying a whole roast pig during cocktail hour, serving roast pig as one of the entrees, adding extra ice cream flavors, and helping set up the dessert table with outside desserts. Also, we were pleased that the food cost per person was lower than other companies that we had contacted. Our menu included rock shrimp tempura, blue crab rolls, angus beef sliders (beyond meat for vegetarians), baby kale salad, sesame noodles, roasted seasonal vegetables, yuzu striped bass, Korean style braised short ribs, tofu steak (for vegetarians), chicken tenders (for kids), an ice cream station, and mini fruit tarts (for dessert table). They tried their best to feed us during the cocktail hour and the beginning of dinner by setting aside food for us. Unfortunately, our busy and tight schedule made it difficult for us to fully enjoy the food. Hungry Bear was incredible to work with. They were kind, warm, accommodating and the staff was amazing. Our wedding guests all raved about the food. It was incredible. We had asked if desserts could be served at a specific time to coincide with a birthday recognition and it all flowed like clockwork. THAT is Hungry Bear Catering! I reached out to HBC when I was starting to plan housewarming event and it was so much fun curating a personalized menu of food items we really love. They knocked it out of the park with the menu. My friends and family are still raving about the yummy food days later and I'm so happy I went with this team! Everyone on the team was super friendly and helpful. They came to set up their kitchen but saw how I needed help with my tables and chairs outside and rolled up their sleeves and got to work! That's so kind to recognize your client is in a stressful situation and be willing to offer help outside of your scope! Food was constantly flowing throughout the event of 4+ hours which included a handroll bar (with fish/veggie options of my choosing) and tray passed appetizers! Wowooww. I cannot say enough good things. We went to the tasting and were already amazed at the food but when it came to the wedding, it somehow tasted even better than the tasting. Jennie just went above and beyond for our guests. She made separate dishes (that i heard tasted amazing!!) for our guests with dairy allergies. She puts in so much care and detail into her food and service that I wish I could get married again just to experience Hungry Bear all over again. The appetizers were SO GOOD. The pork belly bao was full of flavor and super tender. The blue crab roll was delish too. The pop of ikura was *chefs kiss*. The hangar steak was excellent - super tender. The miso carbonara was amazing - pasta was perfectly al denta with lots of greens. Everyone could not stop talking about the miso black cod. I heard someone who went back for 4 more pieces!! Honestly, it was so annoying and stressful trying to just reach them and once we did, they barely even listened. After numerous attempts emailing and calling, we finally got a response and I mentioned on the phone the number of guests I had and what menu items we wanted. The quote comes back... it's a different number of guests and a few of the food items were different than I requested. I ask them about both these things. They addressed the different menu items, but completely ignored my other mention of the wrong guest number and never gave me a new quote for it. Fine. Everyone says the food is so good, we figured we should just go to the tasting and we'll figure out the new quote and menu once we move forward with the booking. Well, we went to the tasting and were pretty disappointed. I want to be fair, the food was mostly above average for weddings and the skirt steak was very delicious. But that was one item that we loved, and with these reviews we expected so much more. I've had tastier appetizers and salmon at other tastings. And the moment we realized we did not want to go with this caterer is when we were talking about which appetizers we would choose, and realized we wanted to switch out every appetizer we tried. If they had been communicative and actually listened to what we were saying, I would've probably given 4 stars. I truly do not like leaving negative reviews, but this was just such a frustrating and stressful experience just trying to have simple communication with them. read more

We just had our wedding on the lunar new year and Hungry Bear catered such a beautiful dining experience with delicious food and beverages. Their food style was visually stunning, modern, clean, refined and just POPPED. Our guests went crazy. I would give them 100 stars for this. This is our second time working with Hungry Bear and our experience has been great. Their food tastes amazing, and we especially love the roasted miso salmon and the asian salad.
