I don't always give a five star review even if I really love a place because there's always room for improvement but Turners should have over four stars. I'm not sure why it's at 3.9 stars but hopefully this will help push it over the top. It would be nice if they stayed open maybe an hour later but that just means you need to go to dinner by 6:30 or so. We tried to go on Friday night although they were booked, but they told us you can usually come in and sit at the bar without any problem and they also told us they would call us back if there was an opening. They did call us back, but by then we had made other plans. So we were able to get in there on Saturday night. It's a dark restaurant, but very nice and homey. We had a comfortable and private boost. Our server was very personable, upbeat and guided us through the menu and gave some suggestions. The Manhattan cocktail, which I asked for with a little less sweet vermouth, was just perfect. The fried green tomato Caprese was absolutely delicious. They use local suppliers for their produce, and I presume for their fish and meat as well. The Caprese had a locally produced mandarin orange oil in it that really made the dish pop. The cornmeal coating on the tomatoes was perfect and crunchy, and the dish had just the right amount of mozzarella. My wife is a vegetarian and had the grilled vegetables that were also perfectly cooked and delicious with some of that mandarin orange oil. Her mother had the Duroc pork chop, which was cooked very much to her liking, and she also quite enjoyed the sweet potato pancakes that came with the pork chop. I love shrimp and grits and was all set to order some but then I saw some of the other mains on the menu and that's why I have to go back because there was a bluefin tuna dish with fried fried oysters and there was another grilled shrimp dish that looked delicious. We saw the prime rib go by because that's the special on Saturday night and that looked great too. But ultimately I did go ahead and get the shrimp and grits. The chef is from South Carolina and he's rightfully proud of his shrimp and grits. Lots of great flavor. The grits are slightly al dente and flavored with a pimento cheese that is really nice and there were plenty of shrimp and some bacon jam and some other tasty tidbits in there. I just loved it. Some of the best shrimp and grits I've ever tasted. I asked the waitress waitress which wine she would recommend with that and she told me about their whites, but I'm not a Chardonnay person so she suggested their Pinot Noir which I never would've expected, but I had a glass of it and it went perfect perfectly with the food. We live in Los Angeles, but my wife's mother lives near Leesburg and we will definitely be back to Turner's next time we visit. The 4 of us had dinner at Turner's. The decor was nice, pretty dark, but had an open feel. Upon looking at the menu, I quickly realized that this menu was different from what I saw on Yelp. As a vegetarian and my wife being Gluten Free, we wondered what we would order. If we knew our friends better, we would have suggested going elsewhere, but did not say much. I saw that they have a side salad and wondered if they could make that into an entree portion for me. The very nice waitress came back with a resounding 'no', they could not accommodate. The menu was almost 100% meat or fish. There was one vegetarian plate, which was expensive and I could not see the value reflected in the rather large asking price. Instead, I ordered 3 sides, Brussel Sprouts, grits and sweet potatoes, each $5.00. They were all good with the exception of the Brussel Sprouts having a gas taste. So too much flame there. My wife eats meat and had the Prime Rib (first time in 20 years). She said it was good and it was $34. The Salmon was also $34. Our friends each had the blackened salmon and they were also $34. These came with 1 side. To us, we felt the food was overpriced. The mostly meat menu caters obviously to only meat eaters and the owner was not willing to make any changes as our friend wanted to leave the bacon oil out, and that didn't happen. I suppose they do not need our business and our friends felt the same way. Of course, after hearing such good things about the place, we were sorry we went there. Or course, if in the future the name of the restaurant comes up, we will share our experiences. Word of mouth advertising came be good or bad. Seemed like the waitress has had to give the 'no change' answer lots of times before. So, this was not our kind of restaurant as they didn't serve what we wanted. Oh well, we tried. read more

Oh my goodness!!! What a hidden gem. From the moment I walked in, I knew I found my new favorite spot. If you live in The Villages, you know how blah the food is. Casual environment, yet classy. Went for Lunch after the lunch crowd time was over as there was only about 3 other tables occupied. Was seated a nice large booth that could easily seat 6. Turners is a Chef owned Restaurant. Ordered the 1/2 lb Turner Burger cooked medium well and the veg on the side. The burger is served with chips however opted to go with the Crispy Potato Wedges ($3 Upcharge) next time would probably just go with the chips. The Potato Wedges were a bit too "Crispy". The burger was cooked to order and was seasoned well. This was a good burger and glad we stopped in and look forward to trying it out for dinner. We love this restaurant. The quiet ambiance, interesting food, impeccable service. Tried it for lunch with a friend. Once again, Turners didn't disappoint. We ordered the chicken avocado boat and the burger salad with the shrimp burger. Loved them both. The burger salad comes with either a beef burger or shrimp burger. If you like shrimp, go for the shrimp burger. I had the pimento salad dressing. Was wonderful. FINALLY got a chance to try this place. Man I wish I had sooner! We went for lunch and had a short wait. The co-owner greeted us and she was so warm and friendly. It makes a difference for us when you feel welcome. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. The building is over 100 years old and it feels like stepping back in time a bit but in a good way. We started off with the hush puppies. At $15 they are a bit pricey but they give you a very healthy portion. We didn't finish them. They come with 3 different types of butter. We really liked 2 of the 3. So good! And they're blue on the inside guys. I'd never seen that. They are a bit different than traditional hush puppies but we really enjoyed them. My wife got the flounder sandwich. She really liked it. I got a chicken sandwich with honey mustard. It was excellent. They both came with house made chips and man they were incredible. We wanted more. We finished off with the bread pudding. We didn't care for the raspberry sauce in combination with the bread pudding but don't get me wrong it was still good. We had heard good things about Turners, so thought we would try it out. We were greeted by two wait staff folks, but because we didn't have a reservation, they didn't know what to do. A guy in a flannel shirt came out, did not greet us, instead stated that in the future we should make a reservation because he bases his staff on the reservations. The place was essentially EMPTY! I had hopes for this restaurant since I've seen it posted so many times and have yet to find a really good restaurant in this area but unfortunately it was a complete failure. I called the restaurant for a reservation and asked for a 6 o'clock seating. They told me the only seating they had was 5:40, when we got to the restaurant it was completely empty. We were the only ones there and when we left they had seated only four tables, so I could not understand why we could not have a later reservation and it was never explained. First let's start with the introduction that our server Autumn who was delightful and attentive but the message the chef instructs her to deliver comes off snobbish on his part, but I couldn't not get over it. I know plenty of top chefs in New York, New Orleans, and Italy and no one would never deliver you a lecture like we got the minute we sat down. Firstly, I never heard of the chef and we go to South Carolina A LOT to enjoy the food but he had a lot of rules no substitutions on his plates, the plates are his vision, farm to table, his mission, etc. etc. etc.. we felt like schoolchildren waiting to be told how to properly eat his food too. Okay now to the food, Fried oysters were fantastic and I thought only New Orleans could do this right. Fried green tomato caprese, the tomatoes were coated and fried to perfection except the tomato slices were too thick and hard, the chocolate balsamic was bitter. 2 Lamb orders, lamb perfectly cooked but let's talk about the sides, cold brown rice and brussels sprouts. When we told our server that the rice was cold, they wanted to actually take the plates away to re-plate them the way Chef likes it done. I asked them just to bring two small bowls of brown rice, and that seem to throw them into a tizzy fit. I mean you lose your appetite once your plates are taken away plus I know what goes on in kitchens when meals are return to picky chefs. The Brussel sprouts had no flavor. Absolutely none they seem like they were just roasted and that was it which is lazy on the chef side. But it made no sense to combine brown rice with lamb the combination was just awful, I asked them. to give me the brown rice and give my husband the potatoes that were on my plate, and they said absolutely no! The steak dish, the steak for served on a dish that was oval shaped like a lasagna plate, there was boiled Yukon potatoes, the same, lousy, brussels sprouts, fried oysters, not cooked to perfection this time, all jammed into one small plate with a big steak on top of it with a disgusting blue cheese, something on it .There was no room to cut the steak no room to move around and when I asked for a separate plate so I could put all the food on it. I got side eyed. I didn't finish my meal but a few bites I took it was really cook well. I do understand the vision of a plate, I'm more of a vision blogger when it comes to food then taste and enjoyment, this overcrowded plate took my appetite away. The scallops cooks okay but the what ever the combination of blueberry and everything made for a inedible busy dish. Dessert The carrot cake was good but whatever the drizzle was on it my husband said it was just horrible. The cheesecake looked burnt and was completely dry. We love the food at Turners - it's delicious and the ambience is wonderful. That said, we went for dinner Friday night and were told there are absolutely no substitutions when several of us wanted to change out one side for another, in this case spinach for Brussels sprouts. This is a head-scratcher - I don't like Brussels sprouts but was unable to substitute another vegetable! I don't get this - instead of predetermined sides, a better solution would be to give the customer an option. All my Brussels sprouts went in the trash. The server said the chef wants to plate the entrees just so, but that doesn't always work for everybody. I had the same problem when I wanted to have the bacon jam on the side when I went for lunch and ordered the prime rib sandwich. I got it but it was a hassle and I felt bad. First time here. We had lunch and it was wonderful. We were seated quickly and received first class service all the way through! Seating is limited but we timed our arrival perfectly so we waited less than 5 minutes. I had the Low Country Ruben which I highly recommend......delicious. My husband ordered the burger, well done and it was fine--nothing special, but certainly better than a frozen burger. The chips that came with his burger were homemade and quite good. I ordered the shrimp and grits and felt they were bland and lacking in taste, flavor, and seasoning. They were missing that kick of andouille sausage or kielbasa, some spice, and the savory flavor of cheese grits. The shrimp were large and tasty.
