I have been wanting turf in my backyard for quite some time, basically since I purchased the home in 2023. Having two large dogs, it was a waste having a yard as big as mine as it was made entirely of desert rock. The previous owner had it done this way for the purpose of keeping it cheap and keeping it low maintenance during the years he lived here. Over the last few years after I purchased it, I got 3 quotes from 3 different companies to do a section of turf. I never committed to a company to do it because I didn't feel confident they could deliver what I wanted. Fast forward to two weeks, I met with Sean from Turf Monsters. After hearing my vision for the yard, he was quick about getting me their quote on the same day. Not only that, but he had an extensive knowledge of the kinds of turf they had that would fit my yard best, the process of whole installation, how to maintain it, etc. It wasn't a hard choice; I chose them to do my turf project feeling confident they would handle the job well. And did they ever! At my request, they managed to get my installation scheduled earlier than originally planned. Materials were dropped off and installers showed up as scheduled on the day they began. Every single encounter during the installation was professional and friendly. It took less than the original two-day quote for the 25'x30' area, the three man installation team finishing in only one day. And it turned out better than I had imagined it to! The bright green turf looks stunning with the original rock landscape against it. And the dogs are beyond happy with it, running around and wrestling on it, but also relaxing on it too as it doesn't get super hot in the sun. I've received so many compliments on it from neighbors and friends that have seen it, saying it completely changed the entire backyard for the better. I had a very disappointing experience with this company and would strongly caution others before hiring them. I paid to have brand new turf installed because I was told my existing turf needed to be replaced due to visible seams. After the job was completed, the new turf still has seams, which defeats the entire reason I agreed to replace it in the first place. I also paid for a completely new irrigation system, but it appears that it was never actually replaced. Many of the sprinklers still have the same old sprinkler heads and tops, yet the company insists the system was replaced. The visible evidence suggests otherwise. Additionally, I paid for repairs to my fire pit, and within three days the structure was already cracked again. The professionalism on-site was also lacking. During the job, the crew took a break for about an hour sitting on our personal lawn chairs and didn't even bother to put them back, and they left trash and debris behind when they finished. What's most frustrating is that I've reached out multiple times to have these issues addressed, and each time I've been pushed aside, given excuses, or told things that simply aren't true. At this point I feel like I paid a significant amount of money for work that was not completed as promised and was poorly executed. Overall, this has been a very frustrating experience, and unfortunately I cannot recommend this company to others. Update. The owner has informed us that we will be receiving a refund that should have arrived today. If course it did not arrive, not is he answering any attempts to reconcile. The turf installation work itself was great and looks very professional. The finished product turned out really nice, and I was happy with the appearance of the turf. Unfortunately, the experience outside of the actual install was extremely disappointing. The guy who originally came out to give the quote also did not estimate the square footage correctly and repeatedly tried adding more charges onto the originally agreed price throughout the process. The workers then dropped hundreds of rocks, along with a large amount of sand and dirt, directly into my pool. They also failed to clean up after themselves, leaving trash all over the area, including inside my pool skimmer. On top of that, they left nails laying around the property. To make matters worse, the crew went into my sprinkler box and busted a pipe, which flooded my entire front yard. The workers clearly noticed what happened, got into the truck, and left. I have the entire incident on video. Instead of shutting the water off immediately, they claimed they were "going to Home Depot to fix it." After contacting the company, I was given the runaround about "putting it on paper," and they never truly owned up to the damage they caused or handled the situation professionally. The turf itself looks good, but the cleanup, property damage, inaccurate estimating, constant price increases, and lack of accountability made this a very frustrating experience overall. read more

Regardless if additional work not included in the original contract would be extra; we had no option to even discuss additional payment as we did not get any responses back from numerous calls. I understand you want to back your company, Mike, but you also need to follow your word. You know the work done on our yard was not up to par. I have you on video admitting so. At the end of the day, as a business owner, just don't make promises you don't intend to keep. It looks bad on the company and on you. You'd have my respect more if you just admitted fault and acknowledged the errors. I have no intention of working with your company again and you clearly have no intention of accepting feedback or complaints from your customers (as seen in all prior bad reviews). [2nd Update] - 2 Years After Using Turf Monsters - What to Expect Turf Monsters completed our yard in January 2022, but we ran into several issues right away. For details, you can find my original review below from [April 22, 2023] and then the 1st update [May 5, 2023]. Since then, we've had to replace all the bushes in the backyard, except for three trees, at our own expense. We gave up trying to get help from the Turf Monsters office and hired a new landscaper. Recently, we discovered a problem with a dripper head in the front yard. To be clear, Turf Monsters didn't install the drippers. When our current landscaper came to fix it, he asked where the water valve box was. I guessed it was on the side of the house. After four hours of searching, he informed us that Turf Monsters had cemented and paved right over our valve box when installing the pavers. Instead of notifying us that the valve box--essential for accessing sprinkler lines--needed to be relocated or the path adjusted, they simply paved over it without a word. Now, two years later, we need to access the valve box, but it's impossible. My landscaper told me we'd have to remove the cement and pavers, relocate the box, and redo the path. He also discovered that they had cemented over the drip lines leading from the front to the backyard. The cost to fix all of this, including moving the valve box, resetting the pavers, and installing a new drip line, was over $550. I immediately contacted Turf Monsters and spoke with a manager. When I explained the situation, I was told we were outside of the "labor warranty" and, since they didn't install the lines themselves, they weren't responsible. I stated that it was about the principle--cementing over a valve box is not just poor practice but also unsafe. I sent an email with photos of the issue almost two weeks ago and haven't received any response or support. One thing to note: on Google Reviews, most ratings for Turf Monsters are 4-5 stars, but here on Yelp, many reviews are recent and show similar negative experiences, with several 1-star ratings. Updated 8/25/25 to respond to the owner's comment: I have, in writing, multiple communications with my project manager expressing my frustrations with the issues I was experiencing well before I decided not to move forward with the pergola. It is 100% because of those issues I decided not to proceed. I did not speak to you directly until after I was told about the 25% fee, but that doesn't mean those concerns were not raised. When we did speak, I explained my reasons in detail, and instead of listening, you became loud and dismissive. I then sent you my communication log with my project manager to show you everything I had documented the last few weeks. For you to now claim I never raised concerns until after my refund was denied is simply false. And I did mention in my review that you did offer to pay for the permit fees, but that was not until AFTER I said I wanted to cancel the pergola. Had I not experienced all of the other issues, I would have moved forward with the pergola and completed the project. I have already reported this situation to both the BBB and the ROC, and I have a confirmed appointment with the ROC to review everything. Perhaps if the same effort you put into arguing with dissatisfied customers online was put into the quality of your work, you would not have so many one-star reviews in the first place. read more

We hired Turf Monsters in February 2022 to design a backyard that was appealing to the eye, conducive for a child to play, and easy to keep up. Alright here is my final edit now that my yard is done. First issue was our main contact drew up a design and then didn't add everything form the design in the quote. We didn't realize this until much later. Like why add it to the drawing if you aren't gonna add it to the quote..... After two no call no shows they finally started working. Worked for two hours and disappeared. Was informed hours later the equipment they rented from Home Depot wasn't working. They left a huge mess in our yard and our driveway,including empty water bottles, soda cans and hats. They came back worked for three days then again did the no call no show the following day. We were informed they have been doing this on other jobs as well. Anyway the job is done and the yard looks good. They just put you through the wringer trying to get it done. They also did give us $500 off for the hassle. Would recommend if they could get their shit together. read more

My experience with Turf Monsters in the beginning was good. Ryan was out and gave a quote. He wasn't the cheapest nor the most expensive. I asked who would be managing the job and he said he would follow the job as it progressed. I never saw him again until he picked up a check. the problem I have is that I kept a close eye as the work was being performed. The workers started laying the turf with out spraying the ground with a vegetation or grass killer. I approached the Forman and asked why. He said his sprayer was broken. here we are 2 months later and I have grass growing through the turf. It started within 1 month. Ryan came out and tried to spray these individual spots and still no results. Another problem is that they pieced in little pieces maybe 1foot by 6 inches in numerous places. Thanks Ray M. read more

It's been a year now since they worked on our yard, I thought we could fix it our self, the more we tried the more problems with their work we ran into. Originally, we called them to get a price on Turf but because of the cost, we decided to keep our normal grass and cut it back to half the amount of grass in the yard, that means to also adjust the sprinkler lines to the new area of grass, they said no problem. It took weeks longer than anticipated, to get it done, they only worked a couple of hours a day because they had other jobs to do. Then the sprinklers did not cover the area of grass, so they had to re-adjust them, add new sprinkler heads, then the men that did the job, told us this is not what they do, they lay turf. After coming out twice and them not know what they are doing they added to the problem. The yard service men we now use, told us they can redo it correctly, another thousand at least. They said Turf Monster men added the drip lines to the sprinkler lines and added to many lines to each area, that is why the water is not covering. Also, they did not pull the old drip lines out like we asked so we have two lines to every plant, one dead line and one running line. I have dealt with Heather , Madison and kristen - in the office . after mutiple calls and them telling me they would set my appointment , had to follow up 4 times trying to get an appointment they scheduled me for Wednesday May 14th and i was the last job of the day . I called the moring of to see if they could give me a time and they said they didnt have an exact time, only that i was the last job on the schedule .. i waited home all day !!No one ever showed up! I have not called to see what happened, because at this point i do not want to do bussiness with them . We have 2 big dogs that pee on the turf + stray cats that apparently make their way into our backyard and pee. If you own turn AND animals, you know that the Arizona summer heat sucks and makes your backyard STINK- making it basically non-usable. The turf cleaner that they used smelled so nice and left our turf looking better than it did before. They also use a heavy duty brush to get all that crud out. Shopped around for turf for a new build home in September and decided to go with turf monsters due to their reviews and the quote I received from them. After our quote was accepted I was added to the schedule and was contacted. saying they could fit me in at the end of the week. So here's where the communication got funky. I got no response from him on what day or time they would be coming by and woke up to a group of men at working in my backyard.. okay fine. When the yard was done I messaged zach about my concern, there was an area where the turf was a whole different color. You could see the color difference easily. We were told the colors would all blend in if we give it time. Very embarrassing when we had visitors mention our turf lifting and color difference It is now December and our yard is still not complete, the colors didnt blend and we had a patch of different colors . They came out to redo the section and then NOPE the density of the new turf was was wrong along with the color. No communication on when the guys were coming out either, I had to call multiple times to get timeframes of when theyd be here and then no-shows with no heads up. They came back with what they say is the right color again for the third try and instantly we can tell its not the same color but we are now told to wait two weeks to see if the sun will make it blend... definitely feel bad for the guys who are out here doing our turf and having to remove and reapply multiple times because they arent getting the proper materials With how much we paid we arent happy with this.
