My wife ordered from Tumi last night (7/7/2020) and had it delivered through them. Food was tasty.... but crunchy. We assumed maybe the onions or some rice was burnt, which is ok. I'm no food critic. My wife packed up some of the leftover food in a plastic Tupperware for work. When it was time for lunch she felt the same crunch in bites. Fished around her food and found pieces of GLASS. My friend took me there. I was skeptical at first, but was nicely surprised afterwards. Glad when that happens. **BYOB** Location: Elizabeth, NJ. Not exactly the part of town that I would go to, but now that I know, I'd definitely come here when I go visit Ikea or Jersey Garden. The place is relatively new with private parking. It is clean with a banquet room on top so it gets quite crowded when they have a party upstairs. Service: Very good service. They patiently explain various menu items. They also gave us free french fries so I give them kudos for trying to get new customers. Price: A bit pricier than a regular peruvian chicken place but you also get the cleaner place and better service. Entrees go for $6-$23. Food: Cheviche: Generous portion and fresh! You can pick either fish only, or mixed seafood. It is not overtly sour and has a good balance coming from the red onions and crunchiness from the fried corn kernels. Peruvian Chicken: A must. They did it well. I prefer dark meat but that's just me. There were 4 of us so we ordered the whole chicken. Think most of us prefer the dark meat so next time, I'm gonna go for either half or quarter, dark only. Bistek: Basically skirt steak with their own special gravy. The sauce is wonderful and goes really well with the rice. Side dishes: Rice: garlic flavored rice. yummo! goes well with most of the main entrees. For a Peruvian joint.....it's pretty solid. Nice chaufa but not the best I've had. The antichucos is a little tough. A bit Americanized and it doesn't match up to the quality as some other places in NJ. I did like the tallarin verde, creamy and great portions. Very local spot. The crowd was interesting. The Chaufa especial was really really good. Chaufa is fried rice,the special has all types of meat and some seafood in it. How good? I went back two days later to get it again good. Yep, that good. This is considered my "go to spot". Their rotisserie chicken has never failed me. It hold so much flavor and not dry at all. Most places like to build a char and have the skin too crispy but Tumi nails it. I've tried there arroz chaufa and knew right away they were the real deal. The location is very convenient but not in the best of parts of Elizabeth. Overall there is enough parking, never too busy and services is great. read more

This was my first time here. The food was delicious. I had the beef hearts which that a very authentic taste to it which was Devine. On a Saturday night there was no what which was unexpected but we where glad we didn't have to wait. They where out of there chicken which I heard they were famous for but we enjoyed what we had. I'm going to give the place a 4 because my boyfriend and I have great food. I had Terra y Mat which is a surf & turf and it was absolutely delicious. It includes a large juicy skirt steak, shrimp & mussels in garlic sauce with a side of white rice and maduros (sweet banana). But u can pick which ever sides you'd like. My boyfriend dish was just ok, not fantastic. It included fish and seafood like shrimp, octopus, mussels, & tiny scallops in a yellowish looking sauce which tasted creamy & a bit spicy. It was ok except that the drowned the food in this sauce. so order it with light sauce unless ur looking for soup. LoL. The ambiance was ok. Not great, not awful. Some tables were clean some were still dirty. This shouldn't be the case when its 9 pm and we were the only ones there when we got there. Plenty of parking in its own parking lot. The waitress was helpful. The food was quick but we were the only ones there at first anyway. Nice presentation on the plates. There was light Spanish music playing on the radio. No TVs. Prices were fair. My surf and turf was $21 and worth every penny. My boyfriends dish was $18. The servings are HUGE!!! I'll be back.. read more

We went there last night have been there in the past, food was good service not the greatest everything came out one by one 5 min apart which was annoying we were sharing the parrillada familiar and 2 half chickens and 2 orders of yuca frita. Well I got the left over meat to go, as soon as I get home open the bag and container to put in the fridge there was a baby roach crawling all over the chicken immediately threw everything out, NEVER going back. All I'm going to say is that I wasn't disappointed. When you have a hankering for soup, order the Hens soup. You'll have a wait because it's made to order but you'll be very satisfied. First of all great environment. We always get the roasted chicken and green spaghetti which is to die for. Quality is great and authentic. Service is great and they always greet you with a smile. It was raining so we ran in, and found a nearly empty restaurant with blaring Peruvian music. We were excited that we found a Peruvian place - I have a thing for Peruvian pollo a la brasa (rotisserie chicken). Considering how hungry we were, we managed not to over-order. We shared a 1/2 chicken plate with rice and a salad and ordered a side of yucca frita. It was the perfect amount of food and it was incredibly tasty. A lady recommended this place to my friend, however I was pretty skeptical because i had visited the place once before a couple of years ago, and the experience wasn't great. All of that aside, I decided to give it another try because the place might have changed and improved from the last time. We ordered a papa a la huancaina which was cold and frozen. We ordered a chicha morada, and the plastic cups were dirty. Finally, there were flies inside the restaurant. It seems that this place is not clean at all. From the website, I expected it to be a little more formal, but I guess the upstairs is only for private parties or maybe later in the evening. Anyway, I ordered the bistec encebollado (steak and onions) and my boyfriend ordered the bistec a lo pobre (steak with fried egg, maduros, rice & beans). The food was plentiful, authentic, and delicious. The waitress was friendly and substituted my rice for a salad since I was cutting carbs. Upon arrival, parking lot was empty and we were the only customers there but once the food came out, all of my reluctance went away. I had bistec a lo pobre, which was basically a steak with rice, french fries, and fried plantains. The customer service alone would've been zero stars if this app would've let me. I'm not Peruvian but I enjoy trying other culture's food so I checked a description before I get there and only checked if the prices had changed (which they had) on the menu. My food comes out with a giant piece of breaded chicken. I'm not of a fan of breaded chicken. The waitress finally asks me what's wrong after 10 mins of having pushed my dish away and I let her know the menu I saw didn't state "breaded". I guess there policy is the "customer is NEVER right" because she continued to blame me for not double checking the menu. She never even tried to rectify my issue. So I will never come back to this place again. I couldn't even tell you if the food was worth the horrible service because I left there hungry and disappointed. I absolutely did not leave a tip. I'm a huge tipper because I was once a waitress and I know how hard it is to work for a few dollars but no one in their right mind would give anything to someone who doesn't even TRY to help. read more

Seriously, horrible service. The waitresses never check up on you. You're left sitting there for the longest time. I had to hunt down the waitress twice in this single visit. I asked for my soup to be put in a container and also for the check. I waited about fifteen minutes before I decided to go to the front. When I get there, the waitress is on her phone sitting. When she sees me she gets up to process my bill. I started to leave and then I remembered she didn't give me my soup. I come back in and ask about it and my bowl of soup was left on a side table. She didn't even attempt to pack it up for me. This also isn't the first time service has been lackluster. It happens every single time. The only reason I keep coming back is because the restaurant is close to my house, but I think this is the last time. Management needs to be aware of these issues. read more
