Bistec a lo pobre
Surina C.

Was recommended this spot and it did not disappoint! I recommend making a reservation , it gets packed quickly. There were only 2 workers so with all the people it was hard to get the waitress' attention. The spot is pretty casual, and they nicely decorated it for fall season. Parking might also be difficult in the area. Overall the food was good. Portions are big, and everything was tasty. My group ordered a few dishes: bistec a lo pobre, lomo saltado, chaufa, jalea, and ceviche Classico and we all loved it. The bistec was a little dry but the sauce made up for it. Just wished that the sauce was on top instead of soaking it up on the bottom with the fries. The only thing I needed was some beans and avocado on the side to complete the plate.

Ordered leche de tigre and tallarín saltado . AMAZING ! 10/10 will be back soon . Thank you Jessenia for the wonderful service ! Lots of Peruvian restaurants around here but this is most definitely my favorite

Ceviche, chaufa mixto and mixed fried seafood

Small place but food and service was very good. Would definitely go back try other dishes.

This was my first experience with Peruvian food and from what I can tell, it's pretty authentic. Having been brought here by someone who is Peruvian and who claims that the food here is exactly how his mom makes was enough confirmation of its authenticity. This restaurant is certainly a hole in the wall but I didn't get the vibe that it was unsanitary or anything like that. I don't think that the waitstaff really speaks English but it's easy enough to just point to what you want to order. We came in with a decently large group on a pretty random time (4:00pm) on a Thursday and there was maybe only two more people in the entire restaurant. The service was relatively quick and the food was pretty fresh from what I could tell. Also, as you can probably tell from the photos, the dishes are HUGE. I got the Garlic Shrimp which came with rice and fries. It was definitely more of the rice/fries than it was shrimp but there was more than enough. I'm not sure how I feel about the flavors of this dish, I felt like a lot of the things here were overly salty. I have no comparisons for what it's supposed to taste like so I'm just going to assume that this is intentional. I didn't try the ceviche but it certainly looked pretty. In general, a nice spot with large portions but I don't think it's something that I would personally come back here for.

Punto Marino Combinado - ceviche and jalea
Jeffrey B.

El Punto Marino is a Peruvian "Cevicheria" specializing in seafood and coastal dishes. You won't find the greatest interior or decor, but that is standard with many of the restaurants in the area. You're looking for great flavor, taste, authenticity. El Punto Marino, as many other places in the area, has a specials board as well. I opted for the Punto Marino Combinado - ceviche and jalea (fried calamari) off the menu. You're first given corn nuts with red spicy sauce and green sauce. When it came to my dish itself. the jalea was not the best I've had, but the ceviche was done perfectly. Instead of making the ceviche spicy by adding a spicy sauce and mixing it with lime juice, they prepared it the proper way by adding chopped up peppers. El Punto Marino even provided a shot glass with leche de tigre on the side of the dish, which often costs extra at other locations.

The food was amazing! Expect for "el ceviche" the fish was a little to hard (it needed more tenderness). "El arroz con marisco" was amazing. And they had some "verde salsa" it was to die for. I highly recommend this place!

Food was ok. We ordered shrimp chevere, bistec lo pobre, and Lomo saltado. The shrimp was still frozen so that was not good. We barely ate it.The bistec was ok portions were plenty. The Lomo saltado was the best item from the 3 items we ordered. The meat was tender even though there was a few fatty pieces. The French fries and hot green sauce was tasty. Probably won't be coming back to this place.

Food was okay, the soup didn't not taste very fresh and was not hot enough. The service overall was pretty good and attentive.

Staff is very professional and friendly, always making sure everyone is having a good time. Honestly, all the food is great here but some of my favorites are definitely the carpaccio and calamari appetizer (the calamari is the BEST I ever had, hands down) and their coffee panacota for dessert is also out of this world, just amazing! If you are a bread lover just know they make their own bread in house. 5 stars always!

For appetizers, we got zucchini chips, fried calamari and mussels. The calamari was fried too hard and it had a very salty, spicy Chilean type sauce over it. The zucchini chips were thinly sliced, lightly battered with Parmesan cheese sprinkled over them. They were decent but nothing to write home about. In fact, after having about six or seven of the zucchini chips I began to experience heartburn from the grease. For entrees, my husband had the chicken parm. He said it was too thick and should have been flattened more before frying. It was also very breaded. My brother-in-law ordered the chicken and waffles and he said the chicken tasted day old so after having a bite of one piece of the chicken he pushed the chicken aside and called it a day. I called the waiter over and informed him about the chicken tasting day old. He didn't try to change it out or take it off the bill or get a manager. He just apologized by saying I'm sorry. My crab Mac and Cheese was decent. It wasn't seasoned the way I would have liked but the huge, plentiful chunks of crab made up for that. I ate a third of my dish and packed the rest for home where I will doctor it up to my taste. I've never been to this particular restaurant before. The only reason we came today is because my brother-in-law was here on business and staying at a hotel in the area.

When I was there, they had a DJ playing, and it added energy without being too loud or overwhelming. The Service was very good, the waiter answered and helped with all our questions. The food was absolutely amazing really flavorful and well done. Just be a little prepared that most dishes come in smaller portions. But the quality definitely makes up for it. I ordered the paella, and it's easily enough for two or even three people and it was well worth it. Really delicious. The drinks were also definitely worth trying while you're there. The only thing I wasn't big on was the desserts they didn't quite live up to the rest of the meal. But overall, great atmosphere, excellent food, and a fun experience. I'd definitely come back.

The drinks were okay but overpriced. I ordered the I'm Coming Out, and the mango purée paired well with the tequila, so I'll give credit where it's due. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. The chicken empanadas were not good at all. The chicken skewers tasted like they were seasoned the same way as a steak, which just didn't work flavor-wise. The steak skewers were good, but the churrasco was way too salty, and the black rice had no flavor whatsoever. Overall, I was highly disappointed with the food. I considered coming back just for drinks and the vibe, but even that feels questionable since there are plenty of other places that are cheaper and offer a better overall experience. I went with the brunch menu, and with just one drink, my total came out to $85, which felt excessive for the quality. To make matters worse, the server lost one of the credit cards we used to pay the tab. We were told only two cards were given when there were actually three, and we had to search for it ourselves. That was extremely annoying and unacceptable. I've been here a few years ago, pre-COVID, and the service was much better back then. Unfortunately, it feels like both the service and the food have declined, especially for the price point. Because of that, I would not return and would rather spend my money at places where I know I'll have a great time overall

I'd say we were successful in that regard, and this is probably one of the top two places I've been now in town, along with Garlic Rose. Even if you didn't have access to the menu, this just LOOKS like an upper-class steakhouse - lots of darker interior colors with deliberate use of lighting almost like the aisles in a movie theater. We did the responsible thing and made 6:30pm reservations, though the restaurant was relatively empty when we first got there (it filled up for sure during our dinner). We were immediately seated and attended to, which was a pleasant recurring theme for our experience. On the booze front, we each got an Old Fashioned, which was specifically cited on the cocktail menu, and a bottle of Daou Cab Sauvignon to share (I let my chum take the lead on that selection, which I think was influenced by the strong reviews on the Vivino app - a recommend if you're into that sort of thing). The Old-Fashioned was decent; I'm always pleased when the de facto bourbon is Angel's Envy. I'm not crazy about vermouth, which I always think gives off shoe leather vibes, but I did like the smoky profile on this one. Not bad at all, but I liked the bottle of wine better. We decided to split the Grilled Octopus app, which came with seasoned potatoes, olives and tomatoes. This was arguably the weakest part of the meal. The octopus was a little tough/rubbery and the accompanying potatoes to me were very much needed and better, frankly, than the designated star of the show here. I'm not an olive person but my chum's comment there was they were too overwhelming, taste-wise. Noted. We also got a side of parmesan truffle garlic steak fries, which I didn't have too many of because I was distracted by all of the other options on the table, but would totally get again. For entrees, it felt morally proper to hit up the cattle (when in Rome). I went with the Braised Short Ribs, which is one of my go-tos if it's on the menu. Pretty good - VERY tender and literally falling off the bone. I'd say about 20% of it was too fatty for me, and I pawned that section off on my chum, but the other 80% was primo. She got the Filet Mignon Oscar style (which my computer wanted to autocorrect to Oscars, thinking it was the umpteenth time I was typing something about the Academy Awards), and was very pleased by it. Not mindblowingly amazing but solidly above average across the board. I'm not sure why we ordered dessert at this point other than to ensure I had something else to munch on the following day, but we did that too. I got the Cheesecake w/ Marionberry Compote. This was just okay for me. Taste-wise, the cheesecake seemed a little off for my palate; maybe a little too tart? It didn't seem as milky as other cheesecakes, which doesn't necessarily mean it was bad, but wasn't my kind of cheesecake. The compote was also just okay, both in the moment and as a leftover the following day. Maybe I'm just used to getting this dessert with strawberries and compotes that are similar to that type of fruit, but I just didn't think the compote and cake meshed as well. Debatable though. There's room for improvement but this is a strong entry in the Cranford gastro scene, such as it is.
