Brea Junior High School

Brea Junior High School

This is the only junior high in Brea. I have some memories here…read more Let's see - a trip down memory lane. I met one of my oldest friends here in 8th grade because I remember that we had to make a memorial of September 11th. Somehow we ended up being really close friends after only knowing each other for a couple of weeks. Then again, our moms became best friends and are still close today. It was an interesting 2 years of my life. I would have to comment on some of the teachers, but then again, some of my teachers may have left already. My brother goes here now, and it seems okay. He does have some of the teachers that I had, but the place looks a lot newer than it did when I was there. New buildings and parking lot.

This is BY FAR the rudest office staff I have EVER met! All my child have grown up going to Brea…read moreschools. I absolutely Despise having to talk to a office staff there. Of all the schools I've been to, the amount of disrespect is unbelievable. When regarding a situation with covid protocols my ex husband and I had concerns. The principal decided to HANG up on my ex husband because she was uncomfortable with the concerns he addressed. I went as far to get the superintendent involved because of her lack of professionalism. I absolutely love the education that the Brea schools provide. The quality is unmatched. But the office at Brea Jr high is a pure embarrassment. I avoid going in at all cost. I have had no issues with the other schools my children attend and have not had this same experience with ANY previous schools office staff. Someone needs to make a change.

I am sharing our family's experience with the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program during the…read moreperiod when Mr. Barrientos served as principal. Our family participated in the program for seven years. Based on our experience, there was limited emphasis on consistent conversational Spanish in daily classroom instruction. Although we were informed that the program's language balance would shift over time, we did not observe a meaningful increase in Spanish use with students. After several years in the program, our children were still not able to comfortably speak Spanish, which was unexpected given the program's stated goals. Families considering this program should be aware that additional private tutoring may be necessary to support language development. We also noted limited availability of Spanish-speaking support staff, which may impact reinforcement of language learning outside the classroom. In addition to academic concerns, our family experienced student safety issues. Over a prolonged period, my child was subjected to bullying that eventually escalated into a physical incident. These concerns were brought to the attention of school administration, including Mr. Barrientos. From our perspective, the response did not result in effective resolution or prevention. Certain leadership statements and interactions raised concerns for us regarding school culture and accountability. While interpretations may vary, these experiences contributed to a loss of confidence in the administration's handling of both academic programming and student well-being. I am sharing this feedback so other families can make informed decisions and so these concerns may be reviewed and addressed moving forward.

Rosary Academy - Academics thrive with a 14:1 Student/Faculty ratio

Rosary Academy

I attended Rosary Academy (named Rosary High School back then) from 2006 to 2010. Rosary Academy…read moreempowers young women through a Catholic college-preparatory education. Rosary graduates are ready to walk in faith and lead with confidence. They have grown as individuals, discovered their true identities, expressed their uniqueness, found their voices, and have embraced success. Students are complete, confident young women who hold Christ and Mary at the center of all they do. As a Catholic faith community, Rosary begins each day with prayer and gathers for masses as well as for prayer services throughout the year. While Rosary Academy offers rigorous academics that includes numerous AP and Honors courses, they also provide a collaborative learning environment. Teachers are very engaging and interactive during classes always playing games, singing songs, or facilitating discussions. What makes students stand out is their ability to speak their mind in class without being shut down or judged. Their voices are heard, and they share their brilliant ideas while respecting the opinions of others. At Rosary Academy, we stand in faith, we stand together, and we stand tall. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most of what I wrote above is total rubbish and I will now go to confession. Truthfully, you will be paying A LOT for a sisterhood that a majority of girls will seek again with sororities in college. It was less High School Musical and more Mean Girls. Most teachers are very caring and set high expectations (as they should since tuition is costly). I can't say Rosary prepared me for science courses or has much diversity, but maybe that's different these days. Try and humble the privileged girls and their snobby parents. Hindsight is 20/20. Rather than throwing money down the toilet for four years send your daughter to Troy High School or Oxford Academy. Apply the $50,000+ savings towards college tuition. Cons: all girls Pros: all girls, uniforms, unshaved legs, #RosaryBun
