Tucker box is a little gem in the upper valley! The menu is varied, the waitstaff is professional and personable. The shrimp casserole is delish! Excellent cocktails. Amazing dolmades and puffy pita! It can be busy and a bit noisy but for us that just adds to the fun. The mezza Platter is tasty, but not a very good value. read more

I absolutely love Tuckerbox! The atmosphere is unique and very inviting. The staff was kind, efficient, and helpful. The food is to die for! I can't seem to breakaway from the falafel wrap - it is phenomenal! We had the stuffed grape leaves as an appetizer last time and they were different than any other stuffed grape leaves I ever had before - and completely yummy. My daughter had a phyllo and cheese roll and home fries and both were very good (though the cheese roll was on the saltier side). First time in white river junction. Kids ordered chicken wrap grilled cheese side of bacon. My wife and I split th mezze and a bowl of lentil. Bacon outstanding unfatty and perfectly cooked. Grilled chees had really nice chees. Mezze platter for four was abnormally miserly in size but pretty tasty. I could live without the soup. Baklava comes with three pieces for $9 which even a rich man hypothetically might quibble with. I'm kinda floored by that price actually. This review is not based on the food but based on the insensitivity to allergies. I called to order the mixed grill dish for pick up and specifically told them about a dairy allergy in which the lady on the phone clearly said only the rice had butter and the meats did not. I asked again to make sure as the dairy allergy is extreme and she ensured me it was not the case. After arriving home and eating a few bites of the meal the meats where suspiciously marinated and concerned me and so when I called to triple check another woman explained to me that there was in fact dairy/yogurt marinated into the meat. The owner comes on the phone and I tell him about the situation. He asks the woman who blatantly lies to him and says she never said it was dairy free. I'm 1000% sure I heard it was dairy free TWICE. The owner was reluctant to give me a refund and proceeded to explain that all of his employees had been working there for years and would know this. Ultimately, he said he would grant me the refund but of course hesitantly. Not a good customer experience from the lying waitress to the owner who was hesitant to make it right. Loved it. I cook, but my hummus definitely don't taste like theirs. So flavorful and creamy. And the stuffed grape leaves are a lot more flavorful with a tinge of sweetness compared to one I've previously had, and is quite amazing. And the kabobs. I got the minced lamb And lamb meatball. Both delicious, a little on the oily side, but incredibly tasty, pairing perfectly with the pickled vegetables and rice. I would love to have tried the casserole, but alas being allergic to eggplant doesn't quite help. Quite a busy place, we got takeout but the first time we attempted to do so, they were so booked they couldn't fit our takeout order in. It was a long wait to get into Tuckerbox on a Sunday afternoon around 1 pm, but it was well worth it. I ordered the Istanbul salad and it was heavenly. The meal was fresh and flavorful. I loved how the colors of my meal just popped. Our waitress was approachable and friendly. I loved the decor and the layout of the restaurant. Turkish Tapas? Had take out from this place whilst on vacation in the area and what a ripoff! If you read other reviews you'll see a theme, small portions. We had the mixed grill kebab, which the menu states contains "generous portions", I can only assume generous means something else in Turkish. I'm fine with average sized portions, especially if the quality is high, but the food here is mediocre and the portions are just plain mean. Only come here if you are fine with small portions of mediocre food. I would recommend you avoid a place that can't even give you a full portion of plain rice, RICE!! read more

It's hard to give Tuckerbox a bad review because their service was amazing. The staff was friendly and the owner greeted us himself. They are taking the COVID precautions seriously with panels of plexiglass separating most tables and hand sanitizer on each table. Also the aesthetic is very cool looking with a lot of pictures and rugs hung up. All that sounds great so why 2 stars? the food, and this is after all a restaurant. I went once for lunch and got a Doner Kebab sandwich and it was bland. So when we decided to go for dinner, I figured "lets try it all" and we got mixed grill and I am afraid it wasn't better. The lamb meatballs were probably the most palatable because they were robust and flavorful. There are only two vegetarian options in the main course menu and I had the vegetable stuffed eggplant. The "vegetable" is just onion and whole glove garlic, served with more raw onion and about two tbs rice and a watery sauce. This was by far the most tender octopus I've ever had, even better than the ones I have eaten in Spain. For our main meal my friend and I both got the Shrimp Güveç. It was to die for. I have tried a LOT of Turkish restaurants, and Tuckerbox offered one of the most unique experiences I've had to date. It was one of the most spacious restaurants I've been to. Ambience was great. The menu was concise which I really appreciated. The presentation and taste of the food were really unique. Service was excellent, and the owner came to our table to ask how everything went. I could see that he was going around the restaurant and talking to customers, which I always appreciate. We ordered the beyti Kebab (amazing!!) and the lamb shish (all the lamb is halal). Both were outstanding and cooked to perfection. The Hummus was pretty standard, but they offered a really cool bread that seemed to be cooked in a traditional tandoor (stone/clay oven) covered in black seeds- so awesome! Overall, everything about the restaurant was excellent. Would definitely recommend and would love to return if visiting the area again! read more

I have known about Tuckerbox for years but this was my first time trying it out. I met some friends for breakfast and we started with coffee, then moved to their outdoor dining area for Covid precautions. I ordered the Turkish coffee, which I figured, as it was my first time to this Turkish restaurant, would be good to try. It was $3 and came in a to-go mug. No exaggeration, it was about 1/3 a measuring cup of liquid. I couldn't believe it. Is Turkish coffee normally served in such small portions? It had an interesting, bitter and gritty flavor, and was the consistency of motor oil. It required more chewing than I ever imagined for drinking coffee. It came with a little ginger chew candy. I ordered the Daily Scramble, which was three farm fresh eggs with onions, cheese, and little pieces of Turkish cured beef. It was served with home fries and toast. It was a unique combination of flavors with the Turkish cured beef added. Including tax, it was $12, which seems a bit high for eggs, hash browns, and a few pieces of meat. I did like their setup out on the street in downtown WRJ, keeping as socially distant as possible during these Covid times. Overall I think the prices at Tuckerbox are on the expensive side, but in a place as small as the Upper Valley, it is definitely a unique spot that everyone should try once. read more

Dear lord this place is amazing. My boyfriend and I were planning a trip to Vermont and I had bookmarked this place because it fell under the coffee category and was right around the corner from the hotel we were staying at, so I figured it'd be good for a breakfast stop, however a coffee shop this is not. (They do serve coffee though and it's good) Once we got up to White River Junction though it was pissing rain and we kind of wanted to just hang around by the hotel. I was sick of driving and there wasn't a whole lot around so we settled on eating here. They don't really take reservations per se (or names) and it was a zoo on Saturday night. When we showed up at 6:30, the hostess advised us to come back around 8 as it should be a little emptier then. We did just that and were seated immediately. We got the stuffed grape leaves (my first time having them, ever) and I ordered the doner kebab. My boyfriend got one of the guvec things - I think it was the lamb. For dessert we got the apple maple baklava (we were on a "Hey we're in Vermont, let's get lotsa maple stuff" kick. Everything was super delicious. Outrageously disappointing we ordered 80 dollars of takeout (between two of us) for dinner and what we got felt like more of a snack than a meal.... portion sizes were absurdly small. I paid 17 dollars for a full salad with falafel that felt like less than a side order and to be honest neither the salad nor the falafel were very good. We're currently staying in the hospital and I honestly would have been just as happy with the cafeteria food. Even the "fresh bread" didn't feel fresh. We got take out yesterday with our kids and ate it across the street near the river at some picnic tables. It was lovely! The food was EXCELLENT. We had the jelly sampler and bread for the kids and we had the app sampler and the doner sandwich. We also got a falafel app to try which was crispy and flavorful. The dolmas were by far my fav. They had a very unique spice combo that was so delicious. Lunch was 10/10!!! If you're concerned about dining in, we would absolutely recommend getting take out and walking across the street to the tables near the river. Especially with kids. We went for dinner on a recommendation of a friend from Woodstock. Long story short - WOW. Of all places... rural Vermont has an authentic Turkish restaurant that rivals food we had in Turkey. Our experience with Tuckerbox was not particularly great. It started with us trying to open an umbrella outside, and have another guest, not a staff member to help. Then, we found out that that particular umbrella was broken. Another table was offered to us, which was still dirty, after a group of customers had left. We stood for a while, waiting for someone to clean the table, which they did, just sweeping the crumbs away, and promptly put water glasses upside down on the barely clean table. (I am writing in the time of COVID). We asked for new glasses, and explained why; the waitress tried to put the new glasses down on the same unwiped table, also upside down. One of the dishes we ordered was not available, also we found a hair in one of the dishes! No compensation was offered for that, barely an apology. I was very disappointed in the falafel wrap. The falafel were dense, dry, flavorless blobs (3) in an enormous wrap with a few pickled onions. A Middle Eastern restaurant with bad falafel??? In all fairness, the wrap was fresh, soft and tasty but I pulled about a third of it off because it was totally out of proportion to the filling. The yogurt sauce was thin and sparse, served on the side. On the positive side, my friend's red lentil soup was delicious and her salad looked great. A big negative was that our bill must've been inaccurate as we later added it up- one wrap, one soup and one salad, no drinks or dessert shouldn't have added up to that amount. I gave the waiter, who did not check in to see if we were happy with our food, friendly feedback about the falafel. He apologized, assured me that he'd pass my feedback on to the cooks asked if he could get me anything else, which I declined. He nicely presented me with some tasty baklava to go to make up for it.
