Service has been terrible multiple times now (our mistake for giving them another chance). Went on Sunday afternoon and it was not busy yet we waited 10 minutes after being seated for a server to initially greet us and take our order. Server did not bring us one of the dishes we ordered or care to check in really at all. Waters were not refilled. Server only came over at the end of the meal and we had to tell them that we never received one of the dishes on the check. Ambience is terrible. You cannot hear the person seated across from you since they play the music at an ear-deafening level. Food is fine but not worth dealing with the awful service/atmosphere at all. This is TRULY one of my favorite places to visit in downtown Annapolis. From the moment you enter the door, the staff here gives you the most customer service imaginable! I primarily come here for the exclusive plum wine as well as the delicious array of sushi. Once you walk in you immediately notice the artsy/hipster Decour. I love the dim light setting, as well as the rustic five. Yet this place has a sense of elegance that keeps you coming back! And, you will always find this place is standing room only! The barstools are absolutely comfortable? You never want to get up. LOL. Definitely have to try the tsunami roll if you are a sushi fan. If you are in a booth for a quick appetizer to nibble on, their fries are delicious! They are served with a house wasabi sauce which is to die for!Overall five stars every day all day !!! read more

Clever appetizers brought down by disregard for the heart of the sushi. The rice was hard and dry, as if undercooked or old. You cannot make sushi without rice. I repeat, rice is the foundation of sushi and should be prepared with care. Old bay smothered the flavor of scallops and badly needed to be scraped off. Unagi rubbery - overcooked. This place used to be a bright spot in Annapolis due to a lack of trendy bar scenes in the area. Most nights, including weeknights, usually rocked. The bartenders were always cool and coming up with crazy concoctions that ruled. Food is always interesting with asian blends of varying tastes . Those were the draws for me to suggest this restaurant to dine at with the folks. It's quieted down a lot as an active bar scene but still has a trendy vibe. If you have issues hearing conversation over loud music, this might be a pass. The place is a bit noisy due to loud music (especially after 9 pm). Oh, and bring your smart phone with the flashlight app -- you'll need it to read the menu due to the lack of lighting in the dining areas. Neat to cozy up with someone special but if you are trying to decide on menu items, you really want to be able to read the description. My folks were pleased with their seared tuna and asparagus -- which were cooked exactly right according to my mother, I might add. The sushi rolls were noticeably smaller, actually resembling micro rolls, and fewer to the plate. I ordered an avocado roll for myself because I am a vegan. My mother was to try the crispy shrimp tempura roll. All of the rolls came together on the same plate. I had to pass on eating mine due to cross contamination. When it was politely mentioned to the waitress, Mander, she was less than gracious and snapped that she wasn't told. *Sigh* If she hadn't had an attitude from the moment we sat down, I may have been able to overlook her need to get defensive. I didn't bother to ask for another roll. I quietly made due with eating my avocado salad. The man had the goat cheese salad. He was disturbed by the waitress' behavior so he lost his appetite for anything else, too. The place was not busy with diners so her need to abruptly rush us along was confusing. Had she been more accommodating, we had planned to stay for the main course, dessert and after dinner drinks. But, she made the experience uncomfortable. We went to Tsunami's for the "Dining Under The Stars" Wednesday night event in Annapolis. The city of Annapolis closes West Street from Church Circle to the next traffic light. Tables are placed in the street and it's a festive atmosphere with dangling lights strung above West Street. The host first told us it would be an hour wait at 7:45 PM but then our table (inside) was ready in less than 10 minutes. They are all very friendly and service was great. The food was perfect and prices reasonable! Overall it was a great night! read more

I previously wrote a five star review for tsunami, but am being forced to change it. Tsunami used to be the best sushi place in Annapolis, but has lost that title. In April, they re made their menu, and removed the only item that I used to go there to eat; the popcorn shrimp. Their popcorn shrimp was the only reason that I would recommend anybody go to tsunami over any other sushi place. Also, their music is consistently too loud, no matter what time of the evening you visit. If they would bring back the popcorn shrimp and turn the music down, they would return to the title of best sushi in Annapolis. Until then, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Full disclosure: I only checked in here because of a roving Maker's Mark event that stopped here during the holidays (yay free sweater for my bottle!). Still, I did pop in for a drink as well, and it was incredible! Possibly the best Manhattan I've ever had. The claims was $100 bottles of vermouth used to accent the bourbon. Not sure that's the case, but I'm intrigued enough to try it again. Also, the menu looked very creative and enticing, so I'd like to try eating there someday soon, too. If so, I will be happy to update my review with a more complete experience. It loses a star for the extreme volume and claustrophobic environment, which I don't see changing even on a slow night. Walked down to this joint for dinner while staying in the area in a hotel. I actually looked through yelp for a good sushi place and was going to go somewhere else, until my hotel receptionist told me I HAD to go to Tsunami. She now and forever will have a special place in my heart for doing so. (Lynda, if you see this, please contact me) Anyways, the sushi was incredible. I eat a lot of sushi and think I know good sushi, and this was really good sushi. They have a roll called the Annapolin(paraphrasing) and it's just crab meat mixed with old bay wrapped in seaweed and rice. So simple, yet so good. Other rolls were just as delightful. The bartender was such good company on my lonely visit. (Still holding out for Lynda, though) he recommended one of my rolls and I can say confidently that I will get it again next time. In Annapolis, I was meeting a friend for dinner. Because I don't know the area very well, the restaurant picking was entirely up to her. She was craving Sriracha Mac 'n Cheese and suggested heading over to Tsunami which is a sushi spot that also has plenty of fun American dishes on the menu. When we sat down, we knew already we were ordering the Sriracha Mac 'n Cheese and let me say, this lived up to the hype. It was insanely creamy with a slow heat that did not overwhelm at all. Even if you're not a lover of all things Sriracha and spicy, this dish won't overpower your taste buds. We decided on sharing a few small plates and also went with the Fries. The fries came with a smoked chili aioli. The fries were delicious, but the smoked chili aioli was delicious. The sauce was spicy and the perfect thing to dip the fries into. We also shared an order of Brussel Sprouts. They were topped with thick cut bacon and crisped nicely. Like everything else we ordered, these were also delicious. While the three items we ordered may not compliment each other perfectly, they were all delicious. Next time I'm there I hope to try some of their awesome looking sushi options too. read more

Our waiter could have been a little more attentive, but everything worked out fine. He took care of us eventually. The food is a 5 but the service is a 1. I've been there a few times and the last visit prompted me to post a review. I walked in and saw a few empty tables, so I was happy when the hostess said "We'll seat you guys in just a little bit." Twenty minutes later we were seated. Ten minutes after that we were asked what we wanted to drink/eat and I was annoyed. Again, the food is really good and sometimes it's fine to wait, but sometimes you're really hungry and don't want to needlessly wait forty minutes for food. Also, a guy walked in with a giant dog and sat down at the bar. I noticed it wasn't a service dog and I asked if they let animals in here to which the server replied that she didn't know what the deal was. He sat and drank and BS'd with the staff, and was still there when I left. I don't know, I just think dogs don't have any business being in an indoor restaurant unless it's a service dog. We've been coming to Tsunami for almost 2 years now. I definitely agree with some reviewers that the quality of the food has gone slightly downhill over time. We typically come here happy hour and enjoy a cocktail/glass of wine and some sushi. They have a great selection of sushi roll options for a reasonable price. The service is either hit or miss. Its either you get an extremely attentive (almost too attentive) server or one that disappears for 30-40 minutes at a time. I have also noticed a slight decline in the cleanliness of the restaurant. The bathrooms seem to always be dirty. At our last visit, we sat by the window on the bench. There was an extreme amount of white dog hair everywhere. That's kind of off-putting when dog hair is floating around while you're eating/drinking. I know Annapolis is a dog friendly place, but usually the dogs sit outside -- unless they're a service dog. The cocktails are always well crafted and the bartenders seem to be very knowledgable. The servers are always pleasant and are able to answer any questions about the menu. Their happy hour selection is decent for the Annapolis area. The sushi used to be my favorite in the area -- it was fresh, always very tasty, and had a nice crunch to it. But, our last 2 visits have me wondering about their sushi now. Last visit we also ordered the lobster lettuce wraps and were very underwhelmed. For $17, we only got 3 small lettuce wraps with a meager amount of lobster. We definitely wouldn't get that again. Overall, 3.5 stars. We really enjoy coming here for the happy hour. I like the hipster vibe of the place and enjoy the somewhat loud atmosphere. I really hope they consider getting a deep cleaning, or at least vacuuming the dog hair and cleaning the bathrooms (I don't think I'm the first person to mention this in a review). read more

Such an odd experience - server couldn't have been less interested, if/when he actually showed up. My order was wrong and we finally asked another server to help fix it w/ spicy Mayo (what can't be fixed w/Spicy Mayo?!), she made the spicy Mayo and left it for him to bring, which he never did. So she ended up bringing it out too. Original server finally came back and didn't seem to notice and when I mentioned it, he just said ok, took our plates, and left. Never came back. We finally went into the bar to get the check and realized he took the role in question off, so that was nice. Overall just a bizarre experience. Been staying in Annapolis during quarantine, after escaping NYC. Was craving sushi. This meal was comparable to something we would pay $100+ for in the City for about half the price. Had 2 rolls, the Asparagus side, steamed duck buns, and the Maryland inspired Buttery Old Bay Edamame(much yums)! All of it fantastic. Our server was great, even while juggling many outdoor tables on West Street, in his mask. Definitely going to make some Old Bay Edamame at home, but coming back to compare. read more

I was told by many people that there are two great sushi places in Annapolis...Tsunami and Joss. Joss wins hands down on both quality of food and restaurant quality. Here are my thoughts on Tsunami in Annapolis. I was there on a Saturday night in August 2012. Food: The sushi prices are slightly above average but the quality of the sushi is average. It was probably fresh sushi, but it just didn't seem like it. I was fine eating it but I know that I've had a lot better, safe, quality sushi for a much more reasonable price. We also had a soup based dish. The broth was very over salted. The Restaurant: This was the kicker for me. I expected a much cleaner, less tattered place. It seems like the place needs a serious makeover. Some of our dishes were chipped, bowls had visible scrapes and wear on them. The fabric on the seats were stained with what looked like various types of liquids and smeared in food. It was absolutely disgusting. There has to be years of stains on this fabric. Disgusting! There were also 3 flies that were constantly buzzing around us and we spent a good deal of time trying to prevent them from landing on the food. This is the first time at tsunami sushi. I've been to a few places around Baltimore and Annapolis and haven't really found anywhere that stands out in my opinion. So far I'd highly recommend tsunami for happy hour. I'm from Hawaii so very spoiled with sushi. It's not exactly Hawaiian standard but very good. I'll definitely be coming back again. But as soon as we sat down and ate the food, we all forgot how long we've waited, instead the conversation shifted to how great the food is! A few shout-outs: - Ahi Tuna Pops - very fresh and delicious - Ramen with PORK BELLY - it's not fair that I'm already a fan of anything pork. We didn't realize it would be busy so we didn't call in a reservation or anything so we had to wait. Our table became available by 8PM which was fine. The sushi as usual was fresh and delicious and the beers were still $3 and cold. I also got a cucumber drink this time which was nothing to write home about even tho it looked nice. Attended this establishment on Sunday Feb 19th, 2023. Had reservation for 7:45 pm. The staff were very dismissive. The waitress didn't bother to give her name. But she had a teal highlight in her hair! Just to get soft drinks took 20 minutes, and again it was clear the waitress didn't want to serve the table. It was obvious she made assumptions based on our looks (young Latino/Black couple). It is a shame that in 2023 prejudice against appearances still exist! The food was poor quality and the noodles were more like pasta noodles, than ramen noodles. I went here for a late night bite with three new friends. I ordered the blackend shrimp tacos, fried rice, and the house sake. The vibe is dark, cozy, and very good for winter, but it does start to get loud as it nears closer to midnight. Queer friendly and lots of queer attendees (our group included). The tacos were delicious but they're not tacos. They are actually lettuce wraps, which would be nice to know on the menu, since it did not fill me up and I had to order the rice next. The veggie fried rice is very good, but it was VERY salty-not sure if that's consistent, but will update if I try it again. This was the first time I have had a sake brought out that was HOT. The flavor was mild, subtle fruit hints, and filtered, but I had to wait ~10 min for it to cool, before I could drink it. Other than that, service was attentive and kind. Tsunami has always been eclectic and a fun pace to visit. I hadn't visited for quite a while and decided to go for sushi. It was 5:45 pm and bar and restaurant area were busy but, there were spots available at the bar. With two bar tenders working bar service was quick, very friendly and welcoming. I ordered miso soup, seaweed salad, sushi, sashimi and a Kirin. Fairly quickly a shocking huge bowl of miso soup arrived. I hadn't been given a miso soup spoon or napkin but when I asked it was provided. A runner delivered the sushi and looked perfectly made and typically presented on a sushi board. I needed to ask the runner for a plate and soy sauce mini dipping bowl, that was quickly provided. The miso soup was typical Asian style made with dashi and was tasty. The seaweed salad was a big portion but a bit bland. The sashimi was fresh and tasty but the Hosomaki roll, while fresh, was bland and made without sushi style vinegared rice. Overall I would give this establishment a 4 stars review for style and friendly service and the sashimi but will cut that back to 3 stars for the sushi rice and go elsewhere for Hosomaki rolls or nigiri sushi. In spite of the pandemic, I go out for dinner often and find that there are many establishment that lost key personnel and are still working out the kinks. I like this place and will return at some point to check out their small plates. read more

Hadn't been here for years but when a family member was town, she chose here over other sushi places nearby as this is supposed to be the better one in Annapolis. Overall, the food is descent, can even be considered "good" in Annapolis. However, there were a couple things that I've never encountered anywhere else before... We ordered sake and wine glasses were brought out and the server asked if we wanted "traditional sake glass." Very first time anyone ever asked if we want wine glass for sake. The sever also didn't seem to be very knowledgeable with the drinks or sake. Maybe we shouldn't expect much since this is a restaurant not a sake tasting room. But I suppose certain sake and drinks are selected by the restaurant for a reason - to complement the food. If a staff isn't knowledgeable, how could he/she make the best recommendation? And it's okay for not knowing everything, grabbing another staff who knows to help out can definitely be helpful. Also everything took forever to come out: edamame appetizer took forever 20-25 mins, sushi took a long time as well, and the curry soup I ordered wasn't even brought out by the time sushi was at our table. So came here for the first time for a birthday celebration on this last Monday. First off yes the Ahi Tuna Lollipops, Yum!! In fact all the food was very good. Unfortunately for us this Monday happened to be the last day for expiring groupon/living social deals so the staff was caught a bit off guard. The service was certainly slower than we would have liked, but one of the owners came around to every table personally to apologize and make compensations for the long delays. The server was also very apologetic about the delays. All 5 of us left and were completely satisfied with our choice of restaurants even with the 2+ hour dinner. We had 5 rolls, the manager choice sushi, tuna lollipops, beef tataki, Mushroom Soy Pork Potstickers and everything was very tasty. If you like beer and wine they have a nice selection of them as well. They have an impressive selection of craft beers that I certainly enjoyed. The place is not over fancy, it has a bar/pub feel to it so if you want fancy digs than you might not like the atmosphere. I will certainly be going again and would recommend giving it a try if you have not been. read more
