The sushi is ok - good but a little high priced for the quality and selection. They also take half the servers tips for the house (owners) so keep that in mind when you tip, maybe tip in cash if possible. We won't be back, I can't stand giving my money to a business who treats their employees badly. read more

The food was amazing! The service was fantastic and the hibachi chef was funny! We had a great time! We will be back!

Tast like the food was reheated more than once. Noodles and rice were not fresh. The shrimp tempura looked and tasted like something I would get at a Dairy Queen. The shrimp was over cooked and dry. The AC also was not working well. read more

The restaurant was clean and neat inside , don't believe the reviews that say it's dirty inside . The servers are very nice and attentive. Our order came out quickly and all correct . I had a California roll and chicken Yaki soba , my wife & mil had hibachi chicken and it was all really good . We will go back ! read more

Wow, this place was recommended by a friend. I second that recommendation. I was really impressed. Best sushi I've ever had in east texas. My daughter loved it also. Very fresh and the place is really nice. read more

Another little gem sitting just behind golden corral. Sitting around the grill with conversation like family, watching them twirling the eggs, fire volcano, yummy veggies & fried rice. It's pricey but worth it. read more

Ordered to go. Tough pot stickers, fishy tasting shrimp Shumai, filet mignon mo flavor. Salad was only thing good.

This place is awesome!! Came to try it after church for lunch with the family, and was not disappointed! Ambiance and decor is on point! Not to mention the food and service is fantastic! Will definitely be coming back! read more

Tsubaki - Awesome chicken and shrimp hibachi! - Japanese Near Me - Lufkin, Texas

First time here. Seated very quickly for a Sunday lunch. Service is excellent. Food came out very quickly. Ordered tempura shrimp. The soup and salad were excellent. Did not really care for the tempura coating. Overall, good meal. I've had better in Texas. Much better in Okinawa, as expected. I did not care for the butcher paper tablecloth. I kept expecting something to drop into my lap. read more

Delicious food and nice people. Only complaint is not a very big "show". I think this is the best hibachi in the city of lufkin.

Went there for 1st time and the place is clean with great atmosphere. Our waiter was super good and very well mannered. His appetizer suggestion was dead on and our order was deeeelish!!! Price was nice! read more

I recently attended a business luncheon here and was pleasantly surprised. We sat at a Hibachi table and ordered a lunch meal prepared on it. I had shrimp and steak, along with the fried rice and vegetables. We also had giyoza and shrimp tempura as appetizers. Everything was well seasoned and delicious! I especially enjoyed the variety of seasonings and sauces on the various items prepared on the Hibachi; everything had a different flavor to it. My only suggestion is to cook the vegetables less time - they were too mushy. The decor here is really pretty and service was excellent. I definitely plan to return. read more

Was told when I came in at 2:10 that they could not serve me because they shut down one minute ago for lunch? They shut down at 2:30 says on the doors and online so why was I denied service 20 minutes before they close for lunch? I understand the annoyance of customers coming in right before close, as I work at a restaurant myself but it was a whole 20 minutes and I wasn't gonna take up much of their time and as most of you know tho it's annoying you arnt supposed to deny especially that much time before close. all I'm saying is if your gonna close early let that be known, change your times, or yk just go by what y'all have posted it's annoying... I'm very hangry now and I could have gotten my food before 2:30 read more

Tsubaki is not the Chinese Buffet many Lufkinites still think it is. This place is classier and full of delicious food. They do hibachi just like Tokyo grill, but Tsubaki has way more room, and is better for parties and groups. They are always coming up with new limited time sushi platters that have yet to disappoint me. Be aware that they close after lunch hours and re-open for dinner each day. read more

Our experience here was great! From the food to the service definitely met our expectations. We have had tsubaki in louisiana and our experience there was awful from the service to the food. So we were a little hesitant trying the one here in lufkin but we are glad we came in for dinner. The service was great the chef was wonderful his personality just fit the lively group we had. Hus food was so delicious! We had a great time. Def. Coming back again! read more

Food was good and everyone was very friendly. My chef wasn't as energetic as some of the others preforming but was still fun. Everything was well cooked and tasted delicious. The only complaint I can have if I could would be that I didn't get my shot of sake from the chef!!!!! Lol but was I would come back here again. The do NOT give military discount. read more

Sushi maker was great and his food presentation fabulous. Sushi was good, but not outstanding. Main complaint was the miso soup, it had a odd sweet flavor not expected. Staff was friendly. read more

Went here for hibachi (where they cook in front of you). The food was great and the cook we got put on a performance. So fun! I order the shrimp and filet mignon combo. Great choice! The steak was so buttery. read more

I came here because of reviews but was disappointed right away when they started bringing my order on chipped plates. I asked to change the plate and they brought a wooden one but the rolls fell apart. It is just not pleasant experience. Chipped dishes spoil all the impression. It shows how they respect customers. I was driving 2 hours expecting a nice dinner but overall my experience wasn't good. read more

Excellent meal. The service was good, the waitress I had was very attentive. The rest of the people were just all about flirting. read more

First and for most the style of cooking in this restaurant is Teppanyaki, not Hibachi. Though in America, Hibachi-style is used to describe the establishment and not the cooking as a Hibachi is traditionally a small bowl or box that holds coals for heating not a flattop grill as with Teppanyaki. In the 70's and 80's Hibachi Grills were a big rave, but I digress. Tsubaki is a treat for the Lufkin area and a good break from the mainstream establishments that line the local Loop. I have been there on different occasions so I have had a chance to experience the different cooks and I must say they do a pretty good job. While the atmosphere tries to be Japanese it always throws in a little East Texas Charm. I always enjoy their Filet and Chicken cooked Teppanyaki style. It is not the best I have had but it is still good. I have seafood allergies and they always accommodate for that. Overall I would recommend this place as change from the same dull corporate places down the road. read more

One of the more upscale restaurants in Lufkin. We have eaten in both the hibachi area, and the sushi areas of the restaurant. The NY steak hibachi served with soup, salad, vegetables, rice, & noodles was very good. Their menu has a wide selection to choose from. Very enjoyable for a night out! read more

Great ambiance. Appetizers and sushi was delish. I recommend the mango roll! Great selection of sakes and drinks.

This is the best hibachi place I have ever eaten at and I've tried several. The chefs are always super friendly and go out of their way to make sure your get what you order. The serving staff is always on point and still do their best even when the place is packed which is often. We go their so much they don't even bring us our menus and it's always just right. Will always recommend Tsubaki's to anyone that will listen. read more

We went there for the first time last week. For the longest time I assumed it was a Chinese buffet, but we finally realized it was a hibachi (my favorite). The food was really good! Better than Sho Gun in my opinion. Prices are around the same range, too. Definitely will be going back! read more

The food tastes very good but they messed up 1 order out of our 8 and for a hibachi place, the entertainment was lacking. And they use a LOT of butter read more

The only thing I liked was the Philadelphia roll but it barely stayed together. The hot and sour soup tasted more like Louisiana hot sauce instead of japanese cuisine. I won't be back. The food is mediocre. The service ok. The sushi chefs were more preoccupied with the news on Tv and talking to each other. Won't be back because there's nothing special about this place. read more

Ask for the Alexander Roll, it is avocado, crab, tempers, salmon, and tuna. So GOOD!!!

This was my first time here. I had the veggie bento box & my husband had the chicken hibachi lunch. The bento box was really good! It came with tempura veggies, shrimp, crab cakes, side of fried rice (you can ask for regular white rice), and 4 small pieces of California rolls. To start, they gave you miso soup or a house salad. I loved the miso soup! I just wish there was a little more tofu in it. My husband loved the chicken hibachi lunch. However, because it was lunchtime I think the serving size was too small especially for a big guy. The price for the lunch was significantly cheaper than the dinner but it would be nice if the serving size wasn't too small. Overall, the place was great! Nice place & great food! read more

I might be a little biased because I grew up on Benihana in So Cal, but I was pretty bummed by the hibachi I got for lunch. I got the steak and shrimp lunch special for $13.95. I know lunch portions are smaller than regular portions, but I did not anticipate getting a scoop of fried rice, four shrimp, and maybe two ounces of steak. It came with a smattering of veggies -- a couple strips of carrot, one slice of zucchini, and a couple bites of broccoli. The steak tasted a little off, too, and the bites were so small I couldn't tell you if it was cooked the way I asked. Thankfully, I started with the gyoza which was delicious and probably more food than the hibachi meal. I think this is probably a much better stop if you're into sushi. My brother got the tropical roll, which was awesome, and he really enjoyed the rest of the sushi he got. In short, yes for sushi, look elsewhere for hibachi unless you're into teeny tiny portions. read more

Tsubaki - Japanese Near Me - Lufkin, Texas

This place has wonderful sushi and great staff. I love the atmosphere. Communal if you like or one on one. Worth the money you pay!

I ordered takeout from here and must say it was quite delicious. I'm shocked because who would have thought such good sushi could be found in a small country town. I'm not knocking Lufkin, I was born and raised here, but admittedly I have been very reluctant to try any sushi place here. In any event, I had the vegetable fried rice, yellowtail sashimi, Philadelphia roll, and spicy tuna roll. The fried rice was every bit as good as the other reviews said it would be. It was actually some of the best fried rice I have ever had. Both rolls were fantastic! The sashimi was flavorful and melted in your mouth. The pieces were quite a bit larger than I am accustomed to, but delicious in any event. I prefer thinner sliced sashimi, but that's just a personal preference that had no bearing on the quality of fish and taste. The ONLY reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I didn't dine in so couldn't rate their service. However, I absolutely plan to return soon and will update my review accordingly. Overall, things were great, especially for takeout! read more

We went to Tsubaki tonight for my birthday. The food is usually very good here. Tonight was no exception. The food was very tasty. The problem is that it was close to 60 degrees in the restaurant so the food got cold very quickly after landing on the plate. We waited a long time( with teeth chattering) for the food to come out and for the chef to cook it on the hibachi grill. I have also been here in the summertime when it is very hot in the restaurant. They make plenty of money here and should be able to keep the building at a comfortable temperature. Freezing while trying to have a nice dinner at such a pricy place is ridiculous. I get the feeling the manager here does not care about customer complaints from past experience with her. So, I thought I would tell the people that do care:the customer! read more

What a wonderful surprise! Tonight was our second visit to the restaurant and the sushi was so good both visits it prompted a review :) We had the sushi happy hour combo both visits and tried the...spider roll I believe...and the volcano roll tonight. Both were divine, very fresh and such good flavor. We have only tried the sushi and some appetizers but everything was delicious. The atmosphere and friendly service are 5 stars as well. This could be our new sushi stop in Lufkin. read more
