Why is this place rated so low? Is it because it's located at the end of a strip mall? Is it because it's not in a swanky part of town? I was greeted immediately upon entering the place. Within 2 minutes, my drink order was taken, and I was headed to a buffet. There were plenty of options that were obviously freshly prepared. When I mention "plenty," I mean several long tables of steaming food just ready to be devoured. I really do like this place, so why not 5 stars? They didn't lose a star because of the place being expensive. I was surprised about the pricing considering the amount of food you will get. They lost the star because I didn't get the Hibachi experience. No Hibachi to be found. It doesn't matter, though, Hibachi or no Hibachi, I would eat here again. read more

I always feel curious when I read reviews saying some place is their "Worst Place Evaa!! " and want to try them out which I did so my review follows. Lufkin is not N.Y. nor L.A. so my expectations were a little bit lower but the "China Hibachi Buffet" certainly exceeded them all! CHB is as nice a Chinese Restuarant as I've been to anywhere. It's located in a strip mall so doesn't look prestigious from the outside but has all the stereotypical Chinese accoutrements as any nice Chinese place would. The entry is protected by brushed stainless steel doors inlaid with figurines everywhere except on the handles and glass. I stopped and photographed each buffet table and I think there are eight. At about 3pm on a Saturday. All the buffet tables were well stocked with dishes being restocked or replaced regularly. They've got a fresh sushi bar and hot grill which I guess is for anything you can imagine that they don't have out already although I can't guess what that might be. Baked Salmon, stuffed crab, Shrimp, and all the beef 'n' broccoli, General Tso's chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan and a lot more is waiting for you. They have a VIP room for whoever reserved it. I took over a dozen photos which I'll add after posting this. The prices are posted as you come in. It's about $10.50 for lunch and $12.50 for dinner with drinks being extra. Yes Mr Cheapskate, you can bring your date here for under $30, although getting her drunk may cost extra. If you cringe walking in; you probs shouldn't eat here....I asked the wait for a CAN OF SPRITE, she didn't know what I said, so she asked another waiter to come translate, when he didn't understand I googled a pic of a Sprite can....cuz I don't like the taste of Fountain drinks.....he said No! So we sat down and managed to eat from the buffet...I got a Hibachi plate a la carte....only ate it cuz I watched him make it after cleaning the Hot plate! I got charged $28.00 for 2 buffets! I've been in this town for only a couple of months and today I was surprised by horrible customer service at this restaurant. My brother came to visit and wanted China Hibachi Buffet. When we asked for To Go boxes, the young lady at the counter practically threw the boxes at us and walked away. I paid with a credit card and was waiting for her to provide a pen. When she gave it to me, she said, "Here." She attempted to take the pen back before I finished my signature. The rudeness was so unnecessary. When my brother asked if her day was going okay, she claimed to have a headache. A headache should not cause such terrible customer service. read more

Really stands out for their large buffet and their numerous seafood items. The best of the chain Chinese buffets and this stands out as a particularly good example with the numerous helpful servers and wide selection. Remember the salad and fruit bar and the small cake deserts at the front and hunt for the Blue Bell ice cream. If you frequent small town buffets you will likely see some new dishes to try. I recently moved to Lufkin, and was out exploring with the boyfriend. As we were driving around, we passed by China Hibachi Grill and noticed how packed the parking lot was! Very intriguing... So we went in! And! It all felt so familiar!!! The neon light decorations, the rows of steaming food, the small Asian cakes, and the red walls. They had all the staples from egg drop soup to sesame chicken to California rolls. They even have Blue Bell ice cream!! Overall, it's a typical Chinese/sushi buffet, but super awesome to have in Lufkin!! read more

The first time I went to this restaurant it was really good, and a very wonderful experience. Every time after that which is about three or four times I give it two thumbs down. Everything looks really good, but most of it does not taste good. The sushi bar is OK, you're getting what you pay for. The best time to go is on the weekends when they are going to be really busy, that's when the fresh and hot food gets put out. read more

Since the empire closed down this is my favorite chinese all you can eat buffet in town! Huge variety of sushie, habachi grill, salad bar, ice cream, and they hav3 great frog legs! So good. They do have a sign now that says if you leave too much excess food on your plate you will be charged more but I never have a reason to leave anything behined. I do wish they offered filtered water because the local water tastes funny to me and it depends on who you get as a waitress/waiter on weither your drink stays filled or not but the staff is always friendly and has a smile. read more

This is neither a "Hibachi" nor much of a Buffet. The food is below par as Chinese food goes. The Broccoli Beef bland and the beef was like chewing gum. The service was noncommittal at best and felt like you were intruding on their space. They want your money and to get out. All within the place were rude little hand written signs. Signs telling you to eat all your food, make sure pay because they have cameras up, etc. On the plus side they had descent ice cream but of course you had to obey the sign. No one under ten and you have to shut off the water for the ice cream scoop. $31.00 for two adults and a child is normally not too bad. The wait staff were 3/5! This fact alone is why I gave the restaurant overall a two star review. The food was beyond disappointing and unfortunately, friendly staff cannot fix bad food. Coming to a buffet I already expect the food quality to be below average. Keeping up with cooking different foods and then the foods sitting out inherently detracts from the quality. I have never gone to a Chinese buffet that I would not go back to, except this one. None of the food tasted properly cooked or seasoned. So much in fact that my one and a half year old daughter, who will feast on dirt and crayons, would not eat anything off her plate minus a few grapes. We also got there during lunch hours but paid the dinner price. The quality of food vs the price paid was not worth it whatsoever. The lack of customers also goes to prove that the problem is in the kitchen and if it were fixed this would be a wonderful place to eat. read more

I only give this place one star review because I can't write anything lower on this website. I don't know where to begin: first the positive. There is a large variety of food to choose from unfortunately you're probably not going to want to eat any of it. All of it is disgusting and rancid and probably spoiled however if you're going for quantity over quality you might want to go to another Chinese food buffet. I sampled some of the rice and found hard grains in my food and the sushi looked like it was sick. The atmosphere of the restaurant however was surprisingly Pleasant and the staff is very friendly and gladly refunded my money without asking too much of me. I love the place! I eat there on Friday or Saturday nights when the menu includes all you can eat crab legs without any increase in price. The baked salmon is very good; and, the sushi isn't bad. :-) It's a real nice surprise to find such a place in a city the size of Lufkin. The fried fly in my wife's fried rice ruined this place for us. Especially when she reported it to the hostess or manager or whatever the lady was and she told my wife that they put out fresh rice and she could go get some that. No compensation, much less an apology was given. read more
