The place's name is a bit of a misnomer, this ain't a True Philly cheesesteak place - that honor goes to other spots. However, what they serve here is very good and worthy of 4 out of 5 stars. This is a cute little family establishment that bakes their own bread and crusts for the sandwiches and their pizzas, which I'd be happy to try next time I'm in. Service was fine, and the place is pleasant, with about a dozen tables and some outside dining as well. The cheesesteaks are interesting, with a shape and flavor that are their own thing but definitely in the ballpark of deliciousness. My mushroom cheesesteak was nicely done and I didn't leave hungry. I was looking forward to trying this place as the reviews were pretty good. The place was clean and fresh looking inside. My order was taken fairly quickly and when I asked for fries they offered a half order for about half of the normal price. This was a real plus. They only had canned or bottled soda so no refills. I ordered their pepper cheese chicken sandwich. It was okay. Took a fair amount to make. It appeared only two people were working. They were not goofing off, they were busy. The fries were plentiful but plain. The sandwich was just okay. Bread was soft and fresh, but the meat seemed sliced up and the peppers and onion were not cooked until soft. Okay I had to take my pup to the vet and while he went back with the The doctor I decided to grab a bite to eat. I needed to stay close by so I'd be ready and there were two places right by the vet's office. When was the boba tea place and the other was Truphillys. I ran into someone that works in the strip mall. Asked her if she could tell me about both of the places and she had great things to say about both but she did let me know that true Philly had a new chef and had dropped off some tapas that were great and then she was going to come back and get the burger. So I decided after looking at their menu to go ahead and get the burger it had an amazing flavor it seems like today some people are afraid to actually season food. The fries were lightly seasoned and better than a lot of fries have had at some chain restaurants. The gal that was working the register was super friendly and helpful and the chef was very helpful as well. The burger was so big I had to ask for a knife so I could cut it in half. I've been going to Philly Franks for so long I forgot this place existed, but with me working in the area semi frequently I wanted "something Italian" - Jake Botch voice A few things happened, It felt more Baltimore Greek town than Italian or Philadelphian, baklava on the counter and a spit roast had the ghosts of spinning meats between the grill and the fryer. Initially i just wanted the sandwich that was labelled "Italian". They aren't called sandwiches in Philly they are called Hoagies and if you want an Italian version it's an Italian Hoagie, but my hunger blinded me to the red flags. $8.99 for an 8 inch, not bad, but then i got to thinking Philly is normally known for their Cheesesteaks (it's in their name) even though we all know the Roast Pork and Pepper Pot Soup are way more Philadelphian.  I got a mushroom cheesesteak. I ordered "whiz wit'. After a confusing look because they were on the phone trying to multitask I realized. Spelled it out like I'm the local and they are the tourist. Still $8.99 for a decent portion of thin cut steak. 3 things happened. Didn't get my onions, steak was overcooked and the cheese was added way too late, it never coagulated and locked things in place. Amorosso roll, idk, it fell through the floor like wrecking ball, this is just what they call it. Q-Tip versus cotton swab. If you haven't been back in a while, you should because the Mertzbacher rolls some places are using now really kick the pants off these so called amoroso rolls here and even most tourist places in philly. It's been a slow decline as to the quality of that name. Lastly it had a huge swath of mustard from the halving as that came from my hoagie. Italian Hoagie should have very little options, but since here they are free balling things i asked for whatever they normally do. To which he replied," it comes with nothing", "you order it how you want it". Mayo, mustard, salt pepper. Then they decided to cook it with the lettuce on it. First of all who cooks their cappicola. I didn't ask for it warm seeing as they are cold cuts. Soggy onions, oil vinegar, unseasoned tomatoes. It's like they took everything an Italian Hoagie is supposed to be and did the opposite, even with me ordering it the way I wanted it because everyones a Picasso in an apron. The bags were grease out from the 5 minute drive. I'm more likely to eat street tacos in Philly than come back here, except for the wings, they look decent. The menu was either created by an AI, someone whose never been to Philly or someone who left so long ago with such anger that they made it their mission to hurt the cities reputation by making bad versions of their food here. But the food was really subpar especially for the price I ended up spending 18$ for everything you see in my that picture. The fries were okay, I wished they were a little saltier but I understand others don't like that. A sandwich is never just meat thrown between two pieces of bread. We have ordered from this place a few times. It's never been our first choice, but the location is better than others. If you are considering this over any other cheesesteak place in the area, DO NOT ORDER HERE, unless you can specifically look over your items in person. We did not receive what we ordered. Instead, we received dry meat and maybe a tiny bit of pepper, in our re-order of the sandwich. It was to have tomato, lettuce provolone and jalapeños. The sandwich did not have any of these items. There was absolutely no care put into it. I contacted the business to discuss paying attention or correcting the order. However, I couldn't even get that far with the man on the other end, as he was defensive from the moment I had anything to say. This is what we call poor customer service. If you own a business, you have to listen to others to improve your business. I needed to express extreme disappointment in this order, and further let the owner know he is not listening to the customer. A reminder to all, with no customers, you would not be in business. I am posting the order ticket below for the sandwich portion that clearly shows what we ordered. I had the rona vaccine this week and have not been feeling well enough to go and retrieve food. All businesses must understand that we as consumers expect at a minimum our order to be correct. It's the most important of roles right now during this pandemic. This new spot is full of flavor with their Gyro Sandwich, French fries, and orders chicken tenders for my little one! Loved how the chicken tenders were nice and thin and crisply fried! When we first moved into the area we started going here because it was really good and albeit a bit expensive but worth it. We would go every couple of weeks and would get a classic Philly or Italian sub which are, again, really good. Unfortunately I'm leaving a 2 star review because when we went most recently, we felt that the sandwiches were lighter than usual on the way home. Once we did get home, we found out that not only did they very much decrease the size of the sub and amount you would get usually, but they also increased their prices greatly since we last visited. So not only are they diminishing the amount they give you, but they also raised prices, a good ol double whammy to tell us they don't care about loyalty. We won't be coming here again which is unfortunate since we really like them, but we're not going to get ripped off for less food. Owner guy, you were super cool! We were given a hard time about using a Local Flavor $20 certificate (that was NOT expired). The individual was rude both on the phone when I placed the order (and I had to call FOUR TIMES before I got an answer) and at the counter. The food was AWFUL. The fries were obviously not freshly made - seemed like they had been re-fried perhaps (dark)-and the gyros meat (what little there was of it) was like leather, pita was stale, and tzatziki (tiny amount) was thinned out and flavorless. While provolone is an acceptable substitution, it's not "tru" unless it has white American or wiz (I understand they recently added wiz just this past week). The cheese fries came with nacho cheese. If you're deviating from "tru" again, let people know by putting it on the menu. If I see cheese fries the last thing I'm expecting is nacho cheese unless they menu states it. We did the garlic parm and mild wings on the second round. The garlic parm could have been plain for how bland they were and the mild wings were like something from a prepared bag with barely any sauce and basically dry. Buffalo chicken sandwich is so good! Me and my wife have now been twice the first time we got the cheesesteak. This was the first time ever having a cheesesteak so I'm not really sure what's considered authentic or not but overall the cheesesteak was pretty tasty and the cheese wiz was good quality as well. Came here for Baklava multiple times already and I have to say their baklava is really good! My wife and I had Baklava from many other places and this place ranks very high on taste and quality. The cheesesteak tasted old and a lot of gristle. As I was eating a customer came in and ordered ice cream apparently she had a coupon that said dine in. She wanted to go onto the patio he said no and got belligerent with her. Then started to point to the sign that said he could refuse service to her. She was waiting for them to make a 12 inch cheesesteak. He was the manager. One more thing. I sent my sandwich back for more mayo and it came back with fries and ketchup on the side. The waitress said it was because I waited a while to get my sandwich. She gave me two little plastic tubs with ketchup. When it came time to wrap leftover sandwich she grabbed the ketchup container.
