I don't have an issue with gluten, so wouldn't normally bother ordering a gluten free donut, but if I was going to, it would be donuts from Truman's. The donuts are Kosik and delicious and don't have any weird after taste. I still think a good regular donut is better, so I'm not giving them 5 stars, but for you gluten free people, look no further. This donut hits the spot.

My husband has wanted to try this place for awhile so we went. Its a cute little place in an area with lots of other cafes and stores and they even have their own 45 min parking in the back. Its small inside, mostly to go but there was a table where you can chill and it wasnt busy so we tried the donuts right away. Im not gluten free but i did enjoy the ones i got - maple pancake and blueberry earl grey. I like that theyre baked and not fried which makes them less heavy and greasy. My husband wasnt too fond of them - he said they should be cooked a bit longer or something. The vanilla one was nothing amazing. The coffee one was very coffee flavored which is cool! I wish i had tried the double chocolate one. Strawberry was good - strong fruit strawberry flavor, not artificial - but churro was by far the best!! It melted in your mouth and had great cinnamon flavor. Cinnamon donuts have always been my fave. To me they were extremely sweet but in all fairness i dont eat many donuts anymore so maybe my tastes have changed. Service was great! Very helpful since it was our first time. Probably wont be back since it is far for us but if you are in the area and gluten free you should def check it out!

It makes absolutely no sense to me that Truman's Bakery is not ranked higher. This bakery is an absolute delight. The staff member that helped my husband and I radiated so much genuine joy and kindness, which is very hard to come by these days. Everything here is gluten free, which is music to my ears. We ordered two vegan donuts (vanilla latte and churro), focaccia, and the banancy bread, which is also vegan. My husband and I told ourselves we were just going to take a few bites of the items and take the rest home, but we ended up absolutely devouring everything. We did not have one single complaint. We just kept turning to each other in awe and stating how good everything was. Our two favorite items were the vanilla latte donut and the focaccia. The rich taste of espresso with the speks of coffee grounds in the glaze was absolutely heavenly. I'm really kicking myself that I didn't get a cup of coffee because the pairing would be unreal. Across the board, the donuts here are fresh and moist and balanced with just the right amount of sweet. I am pretty sure my husband and I will be talking about the focaccia we got for the rest of our lives. It really is THAT good. The inside is airy and cloudy, and the outside of the bread contrasts perfectly with a golden crisp and flakes of sea salt. The olive oil that is used in this recipe also gives the bread a delectable buttery taste even though it is vegan. It is next level. I highly recommend Truman's Bakery. Even if you're not gluten free, I promise everything here is delectable and the service is amazing!

Stop what you are doing and go try this place! First of all the staff was so kind and welcoming. Secondly, the cinnamon rolls are to die for! The ooey gooey middle was so soft and full of cinnamony goodness! The strawberry donut was full of fresh strawberries. We haven't tried the churro or vanilla donut yet but will be taking them home for later. The coffee cake was actually very mildly flavored in comparison to the other items we tried. So if you get that, try it first since the other items are much sweeter. The iced oat milk lattes were also delicious. Will definitely be giving this place repeat business! Very impressed this place had such amazing gluten free options.

I'm so glad I was told about this place. The donuts/fonuts are phenomenal. I came to drop off something to one of the staff (Nancy), only to find out this would be my favorite donut spot! They had 3-4 vegan options available. My favorite was the vanilla latte flavor. This donut was like nothing I've tried before. All I needed was a matcha to go along with it. I wish I would've gotten 2. I will definitely be back in to try more donuts/fonuts. They also sell fresh baked bread. This location is near the grove. Inside is very clean and the staff are very welcoming. I can't wait to bring my friends in to try it out.

If you're in the mood for something sweet this is a great donut spot to checkout. I wanted something sweet after brunch and tried their mini churro flavored donut. It was delicious! Ambiance is fast casual limited seating and service was great.

Day old donut and still delicious! I brought the Blueberry Earl Grey donut with me to work for lunch. The donut was still moist and felt fresh despite being a day old! Biting into the donut, it was so cakey and moist. It was sweet, but not too sweet. I loved the blueberry and hints of earl grey flavors. The glaze perfectly coated the donut and wasn't too sugary. The glaze also wasn't too thick and melted in my mouth. I was also impressed to see fresh chunks of blueberries baked into the donut. The blueberries were moist and delicious as well and provided a nice contrast to the cakey donut. They also weren't too tart. I can't believe something so delicious is on the healthier side as these donuts aren't fried, but baked. These donuts are all gluten free and they also have lots of dairy free and vegan options! Overall, this was a very delicious donut which I loved as I am a fan of cakey donuts. I'd love to visit this donut shop and order more of their donuts in the future.

From their website - tasty and guilty free too!!

All gluten free and half of the offerings were vegan. We got the vanilla latte, churro and black and white fonuts. Super fluffy, moist, and a really good sweet treat! I will definitely return for more! (Note: We had a difficult time finding parking due to lunch time traffic but the girl working there let us know that there is parking in the back). If you plan to stop by go early or pre order by phone or online as they can sell out.

tl;dr the expensive baked "fonuts" are a dry, disappointing take on LA's favorite fried dessert In Los Angeles proper, specialty donuteries are progressively displacing the classic mom-and-pop donut joints. Each such shop of the former has its own niche, and fonuts is no exception. Sporting "faux" in the name, fonuts is readily open about their desserts being gluten-free and baked rather than fried. The brand also offers a large selection of entirely plant-based options. Outside, the electric-yellow, all-lower case serif font pops against the slate grey awning and walls. Enter inside to the chic yet homey room. Accent lighting strategically lights up the wooden finishes. Houseplants and merch are organized around the retro white oven-turned-coffee station. A wooden, L-shaped bar counter occupies most of the large, mostly vacant space. The white-washed wall to the right feels out of place, decorated sparingly with square donut-themed acrylics. Straight back, the multi-tiered donut display sits behind a glass panel. Eclectic acoustic tunes echoed around the room. My partner and I visited on a weekday afternoon, and fonuts still hosted a steady trickle of regulars. Immediately, we were shocked by the minimal selection of fonuts (all of the other guests seemed equally surprised, as each questioned or commented out loud). Service was friendly, and the staff member happily directed us toward his favorite (remaining) options. We opted for the top-selling Churro fonut, as well as the "Mini" versions of the Black and White and the Pumpkin. Across each, the texture was closer to a crumbly bundt cake than a donut, and it was paradoxically buttery yet dry. The signature Churro was heavily cinnamon-forward, but reminded me of a churro only in title. Meanwhile, the single-bite mini donuts were eyebrow-raisingly small, barely larger than Hostess donettes. The Black and White was equal parts fine (i.e., the chocolate) and plain (i.e., the vanilla), and at no point did it measure up to its namesake dessert. Lastly, the Pumpkin was essentially dry pumpkin bread molded into a donut ring shape and then drizzled meagerly with vaguely cinnamony icing. My few bites of underwhelming bread cost me nearly $10. The fonuts were decidedly different from any donut I've eaten, and, for us, they were far from a hit. Above anything else, I was most disappointed by the texture of these baked "donuts". The skin lacked the moderate crisp or the inherently rich flavor that differentiates a cake donut from cake. If you do visit, be sure to go early to maximize your selection -- but, if you are itching for a real donut, then you probably will be underwhelmed regardless.

    they all taste so unique!

as a person with celiac, you don't find many places with GLUTEN FREE DONUTS! LOVED these donuts so much, every time im in town i have to get a whole batch. I will say...since they are gluten free they do tend to be on the heavier side compared to a normal donut...but I don't mind! They tasted amazing and the bakery was clean and wonderful staff.

    Lou M.

I was impressed. Really good vegan donuts and great service. Drink prices pretty reasonable but that dozen of fonuts will be a bit more pricy. I'd go here again for sure. Maybe tomorrow. Heheh.

Ask the Community - Truman's Bakery

The earl grey blueberry fonut was my absolute favorite, I don't see it on the Truman's website, will this flavor ever be available? I tried most of the flavors and earl grey and strawberry buttermilk were the best.

You should try our new blueberry crumb cake! It's our current replacement for the blueberry earl grey fonut, full of fresh blueberries!. And you can still enjoy the strawberry shortcake donut!

    R the donuts fried?

all fonuts are baked, instead of fried. That make them a little better for you, and super delicious!

The non-vegan Fonuts, do they have egg white in them?

non-vegan fonuts contain egg white and yolk.

How long do fonuts last after purchase?

Fresh baked fōnuts from the shops are best enjoyed the same day, but a few flavors are ok next day or two if kept in the box. The vegan flavors are not as good next day. The fōnuts baker kits are good for a year from purchase. Hope that helps!

    Is raspberry coming back soon?

That's a good question! A lot of people have been enjoying the raspberry olive oil, but we never know what's coming next!

Hi are these all made with almond flour? Keto Friendly? :)?

Yes, all fōnuts are made with almond flour. They are not specifically keto friendly since they use sugar, but many consider fōnuts a good keto cheat treat!

    Are your fōnuts paleo friendly?

That depends on how you define "friendly". Some of our customers are less about their keto and paleo diets. But we do use cane sugar, rice flour in all flavors, soy milk in vegan flavors and dairy in non vegan. Hope that helps you decide!

    Are your ingredients Celiac safe?

We have confirmed with our suppliers that all of our ingredients are gluten free. .We are not officially certified gf facility, but we are endorsed by the celiac foundation as celiac safe, and our celiac staff eat fōnuts with no problem.

    Do fonuts contain soy?

The vegan/gf fōnuts contain soy milk, but none of the gf flavors contain any soy.

    What sweetener do they use?

Hi Mandy, Thanks for asking! We use low-to-no cane sugar... Low amounts in all flavors, and no sugar… Read more

I am traveling to LA this summer, but I have a vanilla allergy. Can anyone let me know if Fonuts has any gluten free flavors that also do not contain vanilla in the base doughnut and topping? Thank you!

If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid. My total was $15.25 and I paid cash, but I was given $4.75 in change. When I said it should be $5, she seemed confused and asked what I meant. I told her I literally gave you a quarter right now, and she questioned it before eventually giving me the correct change. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a mistake. I understand times are hard, but charging more for products that clearly had corners cut doesn't sit right with me. It just comes across like there's no integrity. Clearly the quality and portions are going downhill. I wasn't even planning on writing this review. I was going to stay quiet, but the chocopie really ticked me off. I'm not going to pay for food that skims on ingredients and shortchanges customers by charging more for less, so this will be my last visit.

And I know that vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting is pretty easy to make, but sometimes I'd rather just buy baked goods than make them for myself, especially when I'm driving past what I thought was a popular (and presumably good) bake shop. I expected a high-quality cupcake. The cupcakes looked cute, but they were as dry as the Sahara. They should have been labeled as white cupcakes as I didn't detect any vanilla in them. I suspect that the "buttercream" was made with milk and margarine and powdered sugar.....so much powdered sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, and it was dry too. And a true bettercream doesn't even use powdered sugar. So not only were the cupcakes terrible, they were not even what they purported to be. This is like calling a cut of meat a filet mignon and serving a hamburger. Von's, Ralphs and Albertson's make better cupcakes than this for a fraction of othe price.

That alone says a lot about a place. They were running low on several desserts we had our hearts set on, but we knew this before hand. They made things all fresh so if it sells out. It sells out. Instead the lovely people here offered us substitutes and made sure we still had a wonderful experience. We ended up with the crème brûlée (Tahitian vanilla custard with fresh berries and a mint leaf), the affogato (vanilla gelato, house brewed espresso, vanilla whipped cream, served with an espresso macaron), and chocolate gelato! Everything was divine! Love every bit of it! Bottega Louie WeHo is the kind of place that makes a special occasion feel even more special. We'll definitely be back -- hopefully a little earlier next time so we can get our first picks from the dessert case!

Brussel Sprouts was perfectly roasted and the walnuts gave it a crunchy texture. Lobster Hash - I was surprised it was a real lobster tail. The dish was very delicious. Smoked Salmon Egg Benedict- the egg was perfectly poached and once you break the runny yolk on the egg muffin it was so yummy. Napoleon cake was very crispy layered with very smooth cream. I also got macarons to go and thought it was reasonable in price 6 pieces for $20 and you get a really pretty box. I really liked the Dubai Chocolate flavor.
