I walked into this shop on a whim with a girlfriend and was blown away with the variety of goods, the friendly service, the insane amount of free samples, and the delicious truffle products. Excellent stop for a wine tasting while exploring Pike place market! You can sit and try three different wines of your choice for $11. We chose to try some Washington reds, all were fantastic and we learned a lot from the girl who was serving us. It was very educational to learn about the different grapes and conditions they are grown in - near Canada and Yakima - and even the difference in oaks. Each wine was paired with a tasting of some pesto/nut/vegetable/truffles which is a nice touch. And, the girl let us try out a fourth wine from South Africa - she was really great! read more

Stop What you are doing! Look no further. This place is not a restaurant, or a shop, but they do sell wine, olive, vinegars and other Italian delicacies. But the one thing that separates them from anywhere else I have ever visited is there wine tasting. This "event" is a 30 minutes to an hour long conversation with the most knowledgeable people in the industry (Italian cooking and wine.) Their educational systematic approach samples 5 wines tailored to what you think your taste is. Starting from mild and moving to the most acidic each one is paired with a specific sampling of food that enhances the wine flavor. As you move up each level the host asks you a few questions to help decide what wine to serve next , but more important to help you discover a new wine that you normally wouldn't try. To cap it all off this tasting/eating was only $5!!! Also while there I picked up a few of the wines to include; Primitivo Salento 2005 (it was OK - it needed to set or a while,) Negroamaro Salento '05 (I dint think I liked dark red until I had this,) and finally Tre Donne Mascato D'Asti 2006 (great with dessert.) And a jar of walnut pesto too. You can plan your day at Pike Place just to visit the Truffle Cafe and would not be disappointed but if you are in the area it is a must. read more

I went in today for a wine tasting and would have given the store a 1-star based on the wine guy (I think his name was Steve) and his bad attitude. Obviously, he thinks his wine knowledge is superior because when he said that all WA wines are ready to drink immediately and I disagreed (I know a lot of WA winemakers and experts who say otherwise), his ongoing rude and sullen behavior got worse and he barely spoke after that. The improved 3-star rating is a result of the superior service from the lady (ESL teacher) in the food section. I did buy white truffle oil and some port wine but it is unlikely that I will go back to the store for a wine tasting. read more

Friendly staff, lots of free samples, what more could you ask for?! I tried their raw basil pesto and Moroccan mustard. I liked them so much that I bought a bottle each! It really looked like they had a sample of every sauce they sold, and I got to try a bunch of other different kinds, each of which i did enjoy but I didn't want to go overboard so I only bought the pesto and mustard first. Stopped in for a wine tasting. Great price, three 2 oz glasses for $9. The lady serving us was definitely a wine connoisseur! Although I do not remember her name, she was extremely friendly, knowledgable, passionate about her wine, and would not let us leave till she poured a 4th glass of her favorite local red (at no extra charge). I love trying the truffle oils and have made purchases. Fun and no problem until last December when I was Christmas shopping and Angela asked if I would like a wine sample. Sure! I met a couple visiting from back east and we all had fun and enjoyed our conversations with Angela. Imagine my surprise when she charged me almost $10 for 3 VERY tiny wine tastings! She never said there was a charge. Heck, QFC has free wine tastings! I can get truffle oil elsewhere and much bigger and better wine tastings, too. I won't be going back. read more

I got some truffle salt and black truffle cream shipped back from the store. The people here are super nice and helpful (and they know their stuff) - and being able to try the taste of everything in the store helps :) Ok, NOT EVERYTHING - so don't go opening bottles and cans of stuff and point a finger at this review lol! ...eventually got back from Seattle but didn't received my package. I contacted them via email and enquired about my order... got a prompt reply. The delay was due to the some delivery confusion (on my part). But they were very sweet and apologetic about it and refunded me the shipping cost. It was just the way they handled things that makes me a happy customer. Been back several times since. There is an overwhelming scent of truffles upon entering this shop. Maybe because there are truffle products throughout the store (oils, salts, etc). And there are even more products like dressings, oils, sauces, pestos - most available to try. We came in here for a Sunday afternoon wine tasting ($5 for 3 bottles) after brunch. Too full to eat, we just drank. The wines we had were good, but the best part was the friendly woman working at the store. She was so friendly and talkative, and a great person to meet within our first hours in Seattle. read more

The staff here are incredible! They're nice and personable. I stopped in on a day when all of their tables were full, and they told my friends and me that it would be about a 10 minute wait. It ended up being around a half an hour before we were seated, but they apologized and gave us a free wine tasting for making us wait! They delivered on exactly what we wanted to taste (dessert wines), and the staff interact with you and tell you the story behind the wine. The entire experience ends up being very relaxing, intimate, and entertaining. The wines were excellent too. To top it off, we came back a few days later to purchase, and we were trying to remember if we had tasted a certain wine. When we couldn't remember, the staff gave us another small complimentary tasting to refresh our memories! Really, you cannot find nicer people, and the samples are yummy too. read more

First off I went into this store not knowing what truffles were. I was given a free sample at the door that got me into the store then a bunch more letting me taste almost every product that I was interested in. The truffle honey was great but what was even better was this apple spread. it was ridiculously good. This place is absolutely AMAZING!! My sister and i wandered into this little shop and I loved EVERYTHING. I was conflicted about what ONE item to purchase, as I didn't have much weight room left in my bag, and the owner happily informed me that she would ship my items. For a flat rate she would ship whatever I purchased, including items from other shops! Obviously, I purchased a bunch of stuff. I received the package today, Thursday, I was there on Monday. So FAST! I've been to Pike Market about four times now and I always bring visitors from out of town to check out this place. Many people don't know how fragrant the truffle mushroom tastes like so it is a awesome shop to go because your palate gets to try a new taste/flavor. The people who work here are super nice. The last time I came by this shop, a guy offered us samples of their potato soup with a sprinkle of their truffle oil. It was so delicious. The truffle oil/salt/sauce brings out a certain complex flavor when you add these ingredients. I've bought an assortment of things from here. You never get the feeling that they expect you to buy anything. It is a low-pressure/comfortable environment. People there seem to really enjoy their jobs and make you feel welcome to their shop. I also wine tasted here and it was a lot of fun. Overall, definitely stop by. It is however, on the pricier side so make sure you budget if you plan on purchasing. read more

I love truffles! Upon arrival, we were given the potato and leek soup. The truffle oil was delicious! I tried the black and white truffle oil, cream, truffle salt and saffron salt. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. I haven't bought yet because I still have truffle salt from another place at home, but next time, when I'm ready to spend (its not cheap, but did you expect truffles to be?) and have studied more recipes, I will. read more

Great place to have a wine flight and sample the VAST array of truffle products while you're at the market before dinner. Or for happy hour. La Buona Tavola is almost a five star in my book. However, we ended up having a bartender who was a tad bit pretentious. We were in Seattle for the first time and we're the type of traveler that embraces both the foodie scene and the absolutely kitschy tourist traps when exploring a new place. However, she shot down every "touristy" item we had planned, thereby kind of dampening the mood on our very first day in Seattle. Full disclosure though, she did give us a pretty good restaurant recommendation, which we later appreciated. Other than that tiny gripe about service, this is a sweet store. Yesterday, my best friend and I visited The Truffle Cafe for the first time. David helped us. It was obvious that he was passionate about his work. The samples were delicious and it was nice to learn about the food and wine that the store has to offer. Tonight, we tried the pesto without cheese in some pasta and that was superb! Our stop here made my anniversary weekend! Oh my goodness, I adore this tiny shop and its owners! I wandered in one afternoon and sat at the counter for a food and wine pairing. Thirty minutes later I had learned so much about wine and truffles in Italy, the history of the store, and the people behind the gastro-pleasing place. I am seriously considering a trip to Italy to stay with the family there. So, what did I purchase? Being on a budget, I walked out with truffle salt and have found incredible uses for it (popcorn will never be the same!). We had a wine tasting here yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I believe the owner (David?) was the one to introduce us to new wines, my favorite being Helix. He explained each wine impeccably and paired them with delicious pastes and creams like the eggplant and pesto. Went in here for some unique Christmas gifts, ended up staying about an hour sampling different oils, truffles and spreads.I am usually not one for shopping let alone at a foodie shop but wow what a place.Wish I knew the gentlemans name that was helping us that day, he was great and very knowledgeable about all their products. Whoever made that potato leek soup with truffle oil which they serve outside deserves five stars, but the rest of the place is two stars. The items were overpriced, even for a specialty store. We can buy all these things at home-- for cheaper without the annoying atmosphere. Also, the samples and items that were out we're old. You could taste that the herbs and oils were old. Probably from importing from a cheap purveyor and then sitting on a shelf without a lot of turnover. The wine tasting was fine, but the hostess was annoying. We couldn't wait to get out of the store and wouldn't go back. Sample the soup, then spend your time elsewhere. read more

Stopped in for a bottle of wine to take to dinner , we decided to do a wine tasting , our gal was so knowledgable , she broke down which Reds will give me a head ache, found some that my cousin loved that were full bodied, a nice white, and oh man the truffles .. Great service here and a large selection of products you cant find elsewhere brought two fresh black truffles home to San Diego after a trip to Seattle and had an issue with them. I emailed to report our issue, not really expecting much to be done as they are rare and very expensive. A few days later I got a call from the manager/owner who said she'd replace them for and ship them to my house. I was tickled pink at her generosity.
