Slam dunk save! Short version: we had an issue & they were very kind while addressing it. Long version: I got the 2-meat plate of burnt ends (steak tips) for my husband and I. Got home and it looked like the picture below. I was convinced we had only received 1 order of meat by accident, so I called the store for some form of partial refund since I'd spent $20. The cashier was extremely courteous. Let me know that they get complaints about the burnt ends a lot because the portions are measured by weight. 1 order is 1/4 pound, or about 4 pieces. 2 orders is a half pound of meat, or about 8 pieces, which was what we received. She told me the BBQ employees really try and make sure people get their money's worth; management just scrutinizes them sometimes, lol. She was so sweet about it, I was thoroughly convinced that these guys care about their customers. Live and learn I guess! Delicious BBQ though. read more

True Texas BBQ - Don't be fooled, this is 1/2 pound of meat! - Barbeque Near Me - Frisco, Texas

I gave this place way more chances than I should have. After getting food poisoning on three separate occasions, I'm done and will never be going back. The last visit really did it for me. I walked into the bathroom right after an employee came out and there was NO hand soap. That is a huge red flag for any restaurant, especially one handling and serving food. True Texas BBQ in Frisco seriously needs better management and attention to basic cleanliness and food safety. At this point I think either management needs to change or the health inspector needs to take a closer look. I blame myself for going back after getting sick before, but three different times is enough. Poorly managed and I won't be back. read more

Had an order of brisket covered potato, macaroni and cheese, greens and peach cobbler delivered to my hotel. The meat on the baked potato was tender and very tasty. Macaroni and cheese was savory with just the right amount of seasoning. The greens and the cobbler were splendid. I guess what I'm trying to say is this food was fantastic. read more

I loved this place when they first opened! The portions were good, quality of the food is amazing. But the portion size now is a bit laughable. I paid $30 for this meal. I understand our economy isn't the best but this is.... Not it. The service was great, the young lady at the window was super sweet. Just a little disappointed. read more

This location started off strong when the store first opened, but over the last 6-9 months the quality has gone downhill to the point that I will not return. On my most recent visit, I ordered a barbecue sandwich. After waiting about 20 minutes, it was delivered cold. The meat tasted old, and I did not feel it was safe to eat--I ended up throwing it away. It was like an old dirty cold gas station sandwich. No bueno. That's unacceptable for any restaurant, much less one tied to H-E-B's name. What makes this worse is that I was not the only one frustrated. While I was waiting, I overheard other customers complaining about the long waits and the poor service. It is clear that quality control has slipped badly, and management is either not paying attention or not present. This is disappointing, because H-E-B has such a good reputation elsewhere. Someone needs to step in and restore standards at this location. Until then, I cannot recommend eating here. read more

They deserve zero stars for tfw worst service anywhere. They always screw up your order and it's near impossible to get someone to fix it.

I think this place may be owned by H-E-B. We stopped in there for lunch and it's one of those deals where you gotta do a self service order at a kiosk. I ordered burnt ends and brisket. Both we're pretty good. The service and staff was really nice. I got a belly, splash or drink, which lasted all day. The environment is much as you would expect at a grocery store. read more

Lovely establishment, clean environment and friendly staff. Donna helped me pick between the cobblers offered, and made sure my food was hot and ready. My favorite thing to get here is the loaded potatoes with a side of the amazing beans.. and they never disappoint. read more

Brisket has not disappointed us, and the ribs are usually very tender and flavorful. Love the new peach cobbler and the coleslaw is average. Potato salad is tasty, especially if you like onions. Potatoes are hit or miss, depending on the time of day. Have yet to try to the pulled pork or turkey. read more

I read that so many people like this BBQ, so definitely had to try it out. Atmosphere - 4/5 - Tucked away in HEB, but it is a pretty good sized dining area. It loses a point because you have to leave your shopping cart (if you bought groceries) in front of the restaurant. Although there is a person standing and watching your items, I still feel a little uneasy about it. Personally, I would probably eat before I shop going forward. Staff - 5/5 - Typical BBQ Staff. Friendly and helpful. Food - 4/5 - It is good, not great BBQ. Do not compare it to the top BBQ places, and you will be just fine. Ordered the following: 3 Meat Plate ($18.99...Add $2.75 to switch for ribs) - Did the Ribs, and 2 types of brisket with cornbread, brisket beans, and mac & cheese. They ran out of burnt ends :/ Ribs - 4/5 - Really good meaty ribs. Definitely recommend. Fatty Brisket - 3.5/5 - Typical fatty brisket. Lean Brisket - 3/5 - Little on the dry side. Chopped Natural Brisket Sandwich ($6.19) - 4/5 - Def recommend for the taste and price. Smother it with sauce and you are good to go. Pulled Pork Sandwich ($4.59) - 5/5 - Cannot beat the price for a pulled pork sandwich. Cornbread (varies, but also comes as a side) - 4/5 - comes in a skillet. I recommend getting this. Brisket Beans - (see above) - 4/5 - Really good beans with brisket in it. I recommend this as well. Mac & Cheese - (see above) - 4/5 - If it isn't Kraft, then I am happy with it. Really good...especially for the kiddos. Bread Pudding (Seasonal) - 4/5 - If they have it, I recommend it. Keep in mind that I love bread pudding. Also, they have a good happy hour (hh) for beer (3-7 pm). This is a BBQ chain restaurant, so expect BBQ chain quality. Is it bad BBQ? No, not at all. It is what it is designed for. You want a quick fix for BBQ, and it is right there while you shop. Would I go back? Yes, because the price isn't too bad for the items (especially the sandwiches). HEB really has it all haha. read more

The ready to eat BBQ in the store looks good so I decided to go through the drive through. No one answered at the drive through and when I pulled up the window, four employees were standing in the back chatting/on their phones. Waited a few minutes, had one employee staring me down, and still no acknowledgement. If you actually want to eat this might not be the place for you. read more

Final got time to eat here for lunch before doing my shopping. The service was phenomenal!!! I had 3 ribs and chopped brisket sandwich. The ribs were great actually, I was surprised how good they were. The chopped brisket sandwich was underwhelming but not bad. The prices are very good compared to other BBQ restaurants. If this place was in another state it would be 4.5 stars, just too much really good BBQ in Texas but it's worth a stop for lunch. read more

Solid BBQ and a good price point. I'm new to H‑E‑B, and decided to order lunch from True Texas on a whim. TTBBQ slow smokes all their meat in-house, made fresh everyday. They sell until they're sold out, which sounds like may happen often. I ordered lunch through their app, which was really easy and quick. The pickup part was a bit trickier because they have only been open for a few days, and lines are wrapped around the building just to get in. Luckily, they have a drive-thru window, so I was able to pull up and get my order that way. The wait time around 1pm was still around 20 minutes in the drive-thru. I'm sure this will change once the craziness dies down. I ordered a brisket baked potato, 1/4 white meat chicken with a side of spicy bbq sauce, mac & cheese, and creamed corn. The potato was delicious - well cooked and generously topped. The brisket was tasty, with smoked flavors really coming through. My only gripe was that the brisket portion I got was mostly fat, and I hate fatty meats to begin with. It just may have been my luck, but it sucked all the same. The bbq sauce was nice, but wasn't terribly spicy. I'd call it a mild plus. The chicken was amazing, tender, juicy and well marinated. Would definitely get this again. The creamed corn was good, kernels we're crispy and not mushy. Mac & cheese was ok - a bit on the salty side, and the cheese was a smidge grainy tasting. Overall, I will definitely eat here again. Can't wait to try everything that they have to offer. read more

True Texas BBQ - Menu - Barbeque Near Me - Frisco, Texas

This review is for the food ONLY - not wait time. The brisket is very good for the convenience. I have had worse brisket at brick and mortar restaurants. It was incredibly tender - meaning no knife was needed to cut it. The turkey is similar to any chain barbecue spot, dry but flavorful. I personally wasn't a fan of the baked potato only because I prefer my baked potato to be mixed and mashed already. If you are a fan of cakey, bread pudding like peach cobbler, this is for you. I prefer my peach cobbler to be flakey and more similar to the complimentary cobbler from Hutchins (definitely worth going to) The sides were all really great as well, I didn't get a picture of the macaroni and cheese but it was incredibly cheesy and thick, not soupy like many other macaroni and cheese sides tend to be. Super thick and definitely heavy. I really really enjoyed the cole slaw but I have had better creamed corn. Overall, if I'm craving bbq and find myself at HEB, I will probably go here again. read more

Come one come all!! H-E-B is here baby! I am SOOO excited that H-E-B is now in my local community. I was there on day one. The big day. The one. The only Grand Opening day September 21, 2022. Of course I had to try True Texas BBQ and snag a couple of their notorious buttered tortillas. Oh by the way I forgot to mention, True Texas BBQ is located inside the H-E-B. Don't feel like getting out of your car for some delicious bbq? We'll no problem! They have drive thru so you can wear your comfy pajamas at your leisure while enjoying a nice hot plate of TX bbq! Hello Linda's, As per the usual when you see one of my reviews, then you know that I am here to put you up on food game or I'm trying to save you! Let me tell you I randomly decided to try this place, because even though I typically eat more plant based sometimes you want a rib & you miss home! Now on to the good part Linda's the ribs!!! These ribs tasted like Gods love had been tossed on them! Perhaps, someone blessed them before I got a chance to bless & eat them ,because these ribs were everything!!! Linda's It's only because I share with you all that I can let y'all know that I ate almost all of them before I got home. Tried today. The dude at the counter wanted us to use the kiosk for first visit. We can't ask questions to a kiosk. But ok. He confirms they don't use or cook bacon inside the restaurant. This is a win for some of us. :) We order & cut to share Texas torpedo that is a little tough & it looks crazy. Confirm with another who explains - his misunderstanding might be they are made elsewhere & shipped in. They warm them but don't cook them. We rechecked l kiosk to make sure we weren't stupid. It seriously says brisket & cream cheese. The bacon & nasty sausage was an added, unpleasant surprise. Wasted $5. Proper communication goes a long way, considering the large quantity of halal & kosher foods sold in the store here. read more

We ordered two lean sliced beef sandwiches. They were all fat and inedible. We called and complained but I doubt if we ever go here again

The BBQ could be better but it's a quick fix for something close to home. Burnt ends were pure fat brisket is super fatty when even asked for Lean. Sides are good. Needs better management. People sitting around in dinning area. Not a good look. read more

Ok went and tried HEB BBQ, and yes no where near, Hutchins or Tenders or Hurtados, but if you are on a budget, and want decent bbq, better than Dickeys maybe on par with Rudys, then HEB BBQ is a no brainer I tried the 3 meat plater, and wow does have tons of meat (Really in the end its all about the meat) 3 huge ribs, almost fall off the bone, more like a little peel off the bone, lol, lots of sliced brisket, I tried the lean, and yes was somewhat dry, but I have had worst. The sausage about the same as anywhere else, the bbq sauce was 2 options a peppery one, and mild sweet one, I enjoyed both. The also have a drive thru, if you download the True Texas BBQ app, you can order online. While not the best, it's ok bbq if you are craving it, but on a budget, this is another option, and they open at 11am everyday. I could not finish it all, because it was a lot of food, and yes they have sliced bread at your request I can say I do recommend it. Oh forgot had the potato salad side, it was good, and had the green chili cheddar corn bread (Not good at all) could not taste any green chili or cheddar, dry cornbread. read more

I've always wanted to try HEB bbq. Overall it was ok, I would probably just stop in and get a sandwich. I ordered a platter and was underwhelmed by the portion size and flavor. Their spicy bbq sauce does have a kick, which I enjoyed a lot! I wish you could call ahead but you can't, and then it does take a while when you are there. The restaurant is clean and carries a bbq scent which is delightful! read more

I waited for the crowds to die down and for the crew to settle in. This place was overwhelmed with business at first. To avoid the line, I arrived at 11 AM when they open. Put simply, the service, food and pricing are all quite good. It is certainly competitive with other places in the area and the prices might be a little lower. My key test is whether or not at would come back and order the same thing, which was a sliced beef sandwich and small potato salad. The answer to both is a definite yes. They offer everything you could expect from a BBQ place. Eat first and then shop, avoiding parking your shopping cart outside the restaurant. read more

This is the "One Meat" plate?! Better to go up the road to Rudy's, this is NOT a kids plate either. $11.99 isn't worth it. read more

8-16-25 my wife and I have eaten at the Killeen location, three times in the past week. We order a 1/2 lb of moist brisket, 3 pork ribs, Mac & Cheese and a baked potato. The brisket was definitely moist and tender. The post oak smoke flavor and the salt and pepper blend were awesome. And, the ribs, seasoned with HEB sweet heat r the Bomb! Very moist and tender. The Mac and cheese and the baked potato did not disappoint! The pit master, Justin, has been there 8 yrs and does a fantastic job in making sure, that the food is consistent, each and every time we visit. Wre will definitely b back! read more

Not worth the wait imho ya'll. I placed a mobile order for 1lb of lean brisket, 1lb of pulled pork, 1lb of turkey, mac & cheese medium. When arrived home, had possibly 2lbs of brisket and no turkey. One of the butcher papers even scribbled with "turkey 1lb" on it. This one was extra "moist" because it was leaking so much grease. The brisket is just okay. It didn't have much of a smoke ring or bark to it. If I had to compare it to another chain, I'd say it's about equal to Dickeys in a pinch. It's not on the same level as Hard 8 or Hutchins. True bbq? Not impressed. Props on how tender it was though, maybe too done? The mac & cheese was fairly good. Wished I could have tried the turkey. Waited over 40 minutes in drive-thru for my mobile order #75530. I understand its opening week and they did seem to substitute turkey with a higher priced product. Specifically selected sweet bbq sauce and onion/pickles in the app but didnt get any bbq sauce. They individually wrap all the onions and pickles in quart size sandwich bags, which seems wasteful of packaging and labor. One bag had 3 pickle slices in it. What I would do is carve out that 2nd lane for mobile pick up orders like a 2nd whataburger lane. It wasnt clear on the app if I was to go inside or use drive thru so I chose drive thru and didnt realize cars waiting in line were ordering right there till my vehicle was trapped in from barricades. If picking up/ordering, proceed NORTH on Legacy and choose the 2nd or 3rd entrance after Main st. because the barricades and traffic to find the drive thru line on the west side of the building. read more

This is my go to place when I need a brisket fix. Mind you, I am a born and raised Texan who grew up with parents who never failed to be grilling or smoking something on the pit nearly every weekend. I would think since being open this long they would finally have their act together but here we are July 4th and we've been waiting 20 minutes for our food. They are not busy there's maybe 3 people standing around waiting for their food and there's no ice in their ice machine so you have to ask someone to get ice. The yellow rose beer was nice a cold but I did have to ask for it after waiting for a few minutes and I didn't get it. I'm waiting to review on the food but still waiting for my food period I was gonna add to my order but I'm afraid it will take another 20 minutes. Togo Order placed at 5:46. At 6:07 and after five others who ordered after me had left with their order, I asked for my money back ( only told "your order isn't ready "). Three minutes later at 6:10 I got my order- coincidentally as I was walking towards the exit without my order. Food - average to below average. Value- the amount given for a three meat plate was less than I've ever seen. Well below average. Service- beyond poor and they weren't even busy. I got it as drive through so my review will be based on that experience. Good: convenience. I pulled right into the drive through after picking up my groceries and my order was taken immediately. Price. I ordered the 3 meat plate with brisket, turkey and pulled pork. It came with 2 sides and I ordered 3 more sides since I was sharing with my kid. It came out right at 30.00 and the portions were pretty good. Not so good: Accuracy. The guy taking the order was obviously not paying attention since I had to repeat my order 3 times and he still rang me up incorrectly. I got to the window, got my bag and pulled away. I checked the bag before I left the parking lot and they were missing all of the additional side I requested so I had to go back through the line. Taste/Flavor: It's not the best bbq but certainly not the worst I've had. The pulled pork was obviously sitting in sauce all day so it wouldn't dry out. The brisket was dry and the Turkey had a flavor that was not smoke but almost like propane. Think dickies quality. If you expect that and not Hutchins, flat rock or hard 8, you won't be disappointed. Overall, I'd eat it if someone got it for me, but wouldn't seek it out. read more

Finally I insisted on getting my food and a guy filled my order. By then my granddaughter had finished her meal after 45 minutes of waiting. Nothing was offered to compensate me for this, even though I'd seen them give a free dessert to others who also had difficulties. So I asked and got a free banana pudding.
