I used HomeStar Protection to help convert an existing system after purchasing a home. Jes the installer had to correct some major mistakes another company had wired before I moved in. He installed multiple indoor and outdoor cameras and they work flawlessly. What's great about HomeStar vs. ADT is that it is locally owned and operated and you can get your system updated/fixed much more seamlessly. I have had many friends referred to them and they were pleased as well. My install and equipment was also done at a FRACTION of the cost of other companies like AT&T home automation and ADT. After a break-in, I decided I wanted my house like Fort Knox and contacted HomeStar for an Alarm and Security camera system. Tim was Johnny on the spot and happened to be in my area. I took off work early and met him at my house that same day. Tim was very informative and knowledgeable in offering advice for my needs. We decided on a two camera and NVR system. When it came to the alarm system, they have some weird 7 point system of equipment you are allotted which I guess is fine but, I wanted additional sensors and an upgraded control panel. In the end, I decided on the following: upgraded control panel, 3 door sensors, and 2 glass break sensors. The pricing is where things get interesting. The alarm system must be under a 36 mo contract and my price was $46.54/mo + $235 up front for my upgraded control panel, installation, and taxes for a grand total of $1,911. If you were to purchase this exact 2gig equipment off Amazon, it would cost you $400 as of 9/10/17. The monitoring portion is typically $30/mo from any other alarm company such as Central Security Group. Or $1,080 36 mos. monitoring + $400 equipment = $1,480. Or a $430 premium to use Home star. They advertise no equipment costs but if you do the math, this is obviously not the case. The 2gig system is so incredibly easy to install but worst case scenario, you could pay an electrician $100 to wire the controller. The sensors are battery and wireless operated - i.e. Just stick in place and sync. I was told the customer typically configures the controller regardless so you would be the one setting up scenes and additional programming. In addition, per Tim you must remember to call after 36 months to request a decreased monthly rate since you technically financed the equipment. Tim came out on a Thursday and as of the following Sunday night, I still don't have a clue what the security camera system was going to cost. Tim understandably needed time to complete the quote and I was originally told I'd have it that evening, which never came. Tim was busy and promised I'd have that following morning, which was also filled with hopes and dreams. I reached back out Friday afternoon if he had anything and I never received a response. Obviously I just went through a break in and was ready to be proactive in getting this process started however, I felt delay was one thing but, non-response to a customer was another thing. As of writing this review, I do not have a quote on the camera system. Side note, I was told they were two weeks out for installation. I called around and even had one of his competitors come out for a secondary quote and they needed about 3-4 days for equipment to arrive and they could complete the install. At the end of the day, I can't fault their pricing as they are running a business after all and want to profit as much as possible. However, it's obvious you can save some serious bones if you go a different route with some research. I did feel a little disrespected when I was ignored so -2 stars on that front coupled with the delayed scheduling. read more

I read the reviews on here before contacting Tim. The service was even better than I was expecting! Both Tim and Jes were EXTREMELY helpful. Jes helped fix one of our doors that wasn't locking correctly and even went and bought a new replacement part for the door. He also noticed that some of our windows weren't locking properly and stayed to fix every single one of them. The security system is very affordable and easy to use. I now feel safe in my home. My roommate and I will be recommending this company to anyone we know looking for great home security at a great price! read more

I recently signed on with Homestar Protection for my alarm service and couldn't have asked for a better experience! I was referred to Tim and Jes by my realtor and didn't really know what to expect, as I've never had to purchase an alarm in the past, but they walked me through the entire process, answering any questions I had and explaining what I should expect. Although it is a fairly new company, it is clear they've been in the business for a long time and really take their profession seriously. They understand the importance of spending time with their customers and instilling in them the comfort of knowing their home and families will be protected. I live alone, so feeling safe in my home is of the utmost importance to me and they have definitely given me the reassurance I needed. The equipment that was installed in my home is top notch, yet very user friendly. I even had a follow up question after the instillation and they came back out to my house and explained everything to me again. The customer service is impeccable. I was able to download a free App on my phone that allows me to see everything that is happening with my alarm. It's so convenient. I can't say enough great things about this company. The bigger alarm companies may be more familiar to you, but if you're looking for a no-hassle company that's going to spend the extra time with you and do whatever it takes to make sure your home is 100% protected, definitely call Tim and Jes at Homestar Protection. Found Homestar after making several internet searches, phone calls, but was intrigued by the 5 star rating on Yelp and all the great reviews. My wife asked Tim to come out, he was professional, not pushy like some of the phone conversations my wife had with other companies, explained all options and even recommended things we could do ourselves for cheaper than what he could. Jes came out and had to spend nearly an hour to figure how to run power to outdoor cameras due to the difficult configuration of the house which wasn't prewired. But he figured it out without having to have chord exposed and made many suggestions and gave tips on things we hadn't considered. He's was professional and trustworthy, thoroughly explained the app which is great as week as the wall control, both are easy to learn, and the website you get set up with even has tutorials to show you how to do things. After finding so many good reviews about this company on Yelp, I gave them a call. After a very brief conversation on the phone, I asked him if he could come out and take a look at my house and the ideas I had for a security system. We made an appointment for the very next morning, he arrived on time, and looked at my old system. He thoroughly explained the options I had regarding my old system and new inside and outside cameras I wanted. After a thorough explanation and cost estimate I decided to proceed. Setup an appointment for Jes to install the system. Jes installed the system using a takeover module that used most of my existing system but replaced the keypad with a new electronic one that is very simple to operate. This new system uses cellular technology without the need for a landline telephone. Jes was even able to place the interior camera in a place that was difficult to reach in the attic. They both have a great customer service attitude and are available by phone if you have any questions. It is great to work with a local company that actually believes in and practices old fashioned customer service and answers the phone...!!! Only hiccup was a weather alarm that went off every couple of minutes in the middle of the first night we had severe weather. I could not figure out how to deactivate it, on the keypad, on the computer, anywhere. Finally contacted the monitoring company and they had to deactivate it on their end. Works fine now. Found HomeStar Protection through yelp. Was going to continue an existing company, but something didn't feel right, so I was so happy I cancelled within the 3 day window. I called HomeStar and Tim came out that next day. If I had any questions my call was immediately answered. No long waiting times for 30 minutes! Jes came that very next day and helped convert the existing system. He was able to utilize what was already there and uncovered many problems with the existing install. I couldn't believe how many things were not working!! I was so relieved I went with HomeStar. Jes took his time and ensured everything was working before he left and was very thorough. If you are looking for a company that you can trust and can quickly get in touch with, go with HomeStar. You will not waste time waiting on hold or being transferred hoping an issue will be resolved.
