After a hard day at the Iron Church a craving for a burger suddenly fell upon me. I've had True Food Kitchen ( @livetruefood ) on my list to try and noticed they had one on the menu. Normally in times like these, I'd opt for the sure thing, the medicine I've already sampled and could guarantee success. This spot killed it. The Chinese chicken salad had seeds that hurt my teeth, and the Air Crisp'd chicken ancient grains bowl was not worth $26. My friend and I went for lunch here instead of a nearby cafe, because they had more fresh salad options. My friend replaced the leafy greens for her salad with romaine lettuce, and it took out all the goodies with it that was part of the salad. I had a meal unchanged and it turned out straightforwardly well, but beware if you make any changes it will not make a good meal. Lower your expectations. I've tried true food kitchen at a few different locations and they all have the same vibes and standard-this one was no different. When entering on a Saturday brunch, we were greeted immediately and seated. Interior had a very clean/healthy feeling to it. I decided to dine in for brunch as I needed to catch up with a friend! We picked the perfect place. Brunch is served on the weekend only. The inside of this place is so open, spacious, and aesthetically inviting! Food was delicious and I loved all the healthy options. I really like how they put the total amount of calories plus the total grams of protein for all the food on the menu. I ordered the grass feed burger with the kale salad. My first ever True Food Kitchen experience was at the Rosemary Park location. The restaurant is in a very large commercial community of retail shops and eateries. Even on a Tuesday night parking was a big challenge. The staff was friendly and our server had almost too much energy with each interaction but was very helpful explaining each dish. All meals arrived hot with an attractive presentation. I must admit I was stunned at the size of my entree. The wild caught shrimp over black rice is very good and very small. If this your dinner choice, start with an appetizer. Everyone enjoyed their meals but later joked about find a place to eat. I haven't been here in quite awhile and I was truly expecting greatness since five years ago it was quite memorable. My girlfriend and I took our other girlfriend here for her birthday yesterday and besides the excellent service from Timmy T everything else was subpar. The restaurant is beautiful and the environment is lovely. Our server Timmy T was above and beyond amazing. He took care of all our needs which truly made up for the food that should have been spectacular, but did not come close. One of our salads had an unknown flying object flying out of the salad in the middle of eating it. They were gracious enough to take it back and offered my friend the option to choose something else, but at that point she was over the food. I had a curry dish that was not good at all. I don't recommend the curry here. The potato was not cooked properly and the chicken, which was an add-on, was very much overcooked. We had already sent back one salad. I wasn't comfortable complaining about another dish. Other friend had a salad that she took her time eating and whether she enjoyed it or not, I'm not sure, but since it was her birthday, I didn't want to inquire what she thought of her dish. Definitely choose a Tulsi tea (hot) which was delicious. I ordered a lavender latte after my lunch and it was kind of awful. I hate complaining this much about a meal, but it truly was not good. Our server kindly complimented us with a free dessert for our friend's birthday. She chose a flourless chocolate cake and that was really rich, but quite tasty. I used to loooooove True Foods but it's pretty apparent that the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. Generally, when I go to TFK, I know that I'm going to spend about 25-35% more than other options because the ingredients are quality and I'm generally not disappointed. Yesterday's meal proved differently. I stopped in yesterday for lunch with friends and our $100 lunch (without cocktails) was a preeeeetty big disappointment. I ordered a $17 salad and when it showed up, we all thought maybe the server thought I'd said "half salad," but that wasn't the case. My girlfriend ordered a turkey burger which arrived with a (drier than normal) patty and a mealy tomato. My boyfriend had the air-fried sandwich with somehow not enough sauce, yet soggy bread. Overall, I was just bummed that this healthy staple didn't deliver. I can't say I won't be back to try it again and re-review, but with the increased prices, it's tough to want to. With so many organic and healthy options around town, TFK doesn't stand up to the competition. Saving grace - the servers are always awesome. We came to TRU Foods Kitchen on a Monday during happy hour. The interior is bright, and spacious, and the patio looks amazing for nice weather. Unfortunately, several of the dishes we wanted were unavailable, including the Mediterranean hummus and the jambalaya pasta. We ended up ordering the edamame dumplings, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts to share. I got the burger, and my friends ordered the pizza and chicken parm. The food was fine -- not bad, but not memorable either. Since the restaurant has a reputation for being a "healthy" spot, I was hoping for something flavorful that still felt wholesome. Given the prices, I expected more. I don't mind paying a premium for healthy food when it delivers on flavor, but for me, it just didn't. I've been to the same location twice now, and honestly, it's a cool concept and appears health forward but the food overall is very mediocre, portion sizes are minimal, and the price doesn't justify the quality or value are you getting. Our server was very nice and friendly and attentive to checking in on us. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and chicken parmigiana to share. We also just got ice water to quench our thirst. As a health conscious family and in a situation where we couldn't cook for a while, we ate here 2-3 times a week (carry out) for about a year. They screwed our order up 50% of the time or more. That's NOT an exaggeration. I would never eat here if there were more healthy options out there. The food is decent, small portions, but way overpriced. Way! But more than that, they've wasted countless hours of our time showing up to get carryout, it not being ready and then made wrong, can and having them have to remake it. It became comical to our family because we knew every single time we would order even if we had them repeat the order back over the phone, when we got there it would be wrong. And only one time I could recall, they actually let me keep the chicken sandwich they screwed up, but the rest of the times they just took them and "adjusted" them. At one point, they screwed it up seven straight times. And we didn't order anything special, It was just a normal items off the menu made wrong. Also I'll add, this place takes forever to get the orders out. When we walk in, there's usually not many people there but the 20 to 25 minute ready time ends up being another 20 minutes on top of it.
