Move For Less

Move For Less

Highly, highly recommend these guys! I contacted Daniel at Move For Less to move two used couches…read morethat I bought online: a loveseat and a sleeper sofa. The experience was extremely professional from start to finish. He was easy to stay in touch with via text, and he texted me when he thought he might be a bit late, continuing to follow up with updates (including Google Maps screenshots) until he arrived, which turned out to be a few minutes early. Getting the sleeper sofa into my apartment proved to be almost impossible, but Daniel and his associate were determined: They spent about 45 minutes trying every possible angle (literally!) for getting the sofa into the apartment: removing its legs, attempting to unscrew a door, taking down lights, etc. They somehow (magically) got the sofa in to the apartment! I'm convinced most movers would have given up much sooner, but these guys were friendly, funny, and kind throughout the whole process. The price was great, too, especially considering all of the extra effort they had to put in. I will certainly be calling these guys again and would recommend them to anyone.

This was honestly one of the worst and most unprofessional moving experiences I have ever had. From…read morethe moment the movers arrived, the entire experience was frustrating. We were told beforehand that we did not have a large amount of furniture and were assured that the move would be straightforward. Instead, the move took an excessive amount of time, and the movers appeared completely unprepared for the job. They arrived without a dolly and without the tools needed for furniture that we had already discussed would need to be taken apart and reassembled. They ended up taking apart beds and other furniture, only to leave them unfinished at our new home because they could not locate all of the necessary pieces. They eventually told us they were not working for free and did not have any more time, despite the fact that we had already paid $1,650 for the service. Our furniture was also damaged during the move, including the handle being broken off of our Broyhill six-drawer dresser. We were left with damaged furniture and furniture that had been taken apart but was not properly put back together. The professionalism was also extremely disappointing. The movers arrived in pajamas and appeared poorly prepared and unprofessional. There was also a strong odor that made it seem as though basic personal hygiene had been neglected. I understand that moving is physical work, but the overall presentation and professionalism were far below what we expected from a company we were paying this much money to provide a professional service. To make matters worse, when we attempted to contact management to discuss the problems with the move and find a resolution, we were hung up on. That was extremely frustrating and showed us how little they seemed to care about addressing our concerns after receiving payment. We were originally quoted approximately $1,000 over the phone but ultimately paid $1,650. After paying significantly more than the original quote, we were left with damaged furniture, unfinished work, and a terrible customer-service experience. I would strongly recommend thinking twice before hiring this company. Make sure you get the price, services included, and expectations in writing, and thoroughly document the condition of your furniture before and after the move.

TL;DR: These are the best movers I've ever worked with anywhere in the country…read more We've hired Expert Movers twice. Once to move between houses in the city, and once to pack our things and load them into a truck that we're driving to another state ourselves. Expert Movers were incredibly professional both times. Here are some highlights: - Not a single piece of damage to any item or the house during either move. - Very hard working movers who are strong and can safely lift even very heavy items. - Locally owned so it's easy to get someone on the phone if and when you need. - All materials provided and everything completely handled. I literally sat there playing video games for a few hours during one of the moves. This last time we moved they really outdid themselves. We needed somewhere to store our 26' moving truck for the night between packing and loading. We didn't know where to store the truck so we called Expert Movers for their advice. They ended up offering to drive the truck to their lot, store it there overnight for us, and then drive it back the next morning *free of charge*! Crazy stuff. These are good people. Worth every single penny and we won't even bother calling another moving company if we ever need to move back to Chicago.

We had a very bad experience with another moving company for the move to SC, which my wife explained to the scheduling consultant. My wife was assured things would be very different with National Van Lines and that it would be a much better experience than our previous multi-state move. Things went sideways as we got close to the moving date. First, the subcontracted driver called on Monday to inform us he would be there on Tuesday, even though National Van Lines had scheduled his arrival for Wednesday. (We had made arrangements to have our pets transported on Tuesday so they would be out of the way when the movers arrived.) The additional loading help was a no-show, so another crew had to be found in the spur of the moment. They rushed and rushed to help my wife finish packing, since I was already in Michigan to close on our new home. At the end of the day, a good chunk of our possessions were not loaded into the truck, and the driver claimed a personal situation would delay the delivery of our possessions for two weeks. My wife was extremely stressed and upset over the experience. My wife delayed her departure to Michigan until Wednesday. She spent most of the day sorting through what had been left at the house, taking a bunch of things to the dump and some to be donated. She loaded her vehicle to the max and began the two-day drive to Michigan Wednesday night, leaving more stuff in the house. She arrived in Michigan late Thursday night, still stressed and upset. She had been in touch with our consultant at National Van Lines, who was totally in the dark about what the driver had communicated to us. I made travel arrangements to fly out of Michigan early Friday morning, landing in South Carolina late in the morning. I rented a van and drove to our house. I finished loading the rest of our possessions into the rental and cleaned up the mess left behind by the movers. Then I made the two-day drive to Michigan, arriving late Saturday night. We unloaded the moving van Sunday morning before I returned the van and hit the road to travel to a client site. Between the flight, van rental, hotel, and travel expenses, that was more than $1,000 of additional expenses (on top of a bill of more than $13,000) out of pocket. We were out running an errand about an hour from the house on a Sunday when my wife got a call from National Van Lines asking where we were, because the delivery driver (a different person than the one who picked up our stuff) was at the house ready to unload. We rushed back to the house and worked with a great driver and crew to get things unloaded. I reached out to National Van Lines afterward about filing a claim for the additional expenses of my trip to South Carolina to finish the job that we paid them to do. They denied our claim because we had already received a meager stipend for the delay in delivering our stuff (a couple of hundred dollars). The fact that the extra expense was a direct result of their contractor not completing the job was completely ignored. When I contacted them to ask for a reconsideration, they stopped replying to us. The consulting team is great. They hyped up the quality and standards of National Van Lines, and how their contractors follow the same high level of professionalism. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. Thankfully, we do not plan to move again. But if we had to, we would not call on National Van Lines again.
