I saw this place and knew I had to visit just because of the visuals. It's even better in person…read more It seems like it's a place that is continuously added to with the smallest detail that can bring the biggest smile. I don't think that there is a wall that dosnt have some positive affirmation of sorts. It has a very authentic feel, and a maximalism approach. The air condition works just fine on a summer day but I did opt for the outdoor seating. The messages on the window are what the community needs to hear, "You are Loved" and "slow the frick down". This place really seems all inclusive. I was impressed that there IS a baby changing table in the bathroom. We tried the iced mocha, lemonade, and peach parfait that was left, because a lot was sold out. The iced mocha didn't stand out to me, but maybe that because I do like my coffee on the sweater side. The lemonade was wonderful, tasted "home made" without any pulp. We did add some of the simple syrup that was available on the table to sweeten it up just a bit. The peach parfait was great, there were pumpkin seeds in the granola which has inspired me to try and make my own. Their stickers are humorous!

Date of visit: April 29, 2026…read more I struggled to find a decent website prior to visiting to have a good idea of what we were getting into, though I don't know that I would have been less disappointed had I been more informed. I was expecting a bit more than just breakfast sandwiches in terms of food, but that is all the counter staff told us about. Later I saw people with baked goods but those weren't mentioned or visible for us to peruse. Our breakfast sandwiches were pretty average, and the coffee was just okay as well. I tried the Carrot Cake Latte and it had a hint of that flavor, but I definitely wanted a little more. The vibe is very hipster, from the bicycle crowd to the vegan folks and would really only work in a neighborhood like Riverwest!

I love counter service diners. I had scrambled eggs that were just right, not the typical midwest…read moreleather eggs. With it were bacon that was just the right kind of salty and crispy, and the best American fries I've ever had (sorry Mom). The rye toast was swirled, thick, and soft in the middle. My wife appreciated her ham and cheese omelette and hash browns (and some of my bacon). Her raisin toast looked really good. Service was good. Definitely enjoyed the place.

Date of visit: April 23, 2026…read more I lived down the street from Jo's Cafe for decades, but didn't ever visit until I didn't--funny how that works. My mom remembers coming here when she was young, before she had kids, and that they used to bake their own bread and you could smell the fresh bread a block away. Jo was short for Josephine, who ran the place. She was pretty sure that Jo has since passed away. Despite Jo's passing, the cafe lives on with the same name, but seems to have fallen off from its glory days. I went with the Biscuits and gravy given the fresh bread, but then I saw the cook bring out a bag of pre-made biscuits and knew that things were not the same. That being said, the gravy was actually pretty good if the biscuit wasn't really warm or particularly memorable. My eggs were not fully cooked and as such, I really just ate the cheese. Coffee was pretty meh and only the bare bones creamers were available, plus only plain table sugar as an option to sweeten the brew. Mom really enjoyed her meat lover's omelet and will definitely have some leftovers for the next day! Service was okay, didn't love the waitress taking a phone call while refilling my coffee, and the prices were a bit high for the value. Initially I was bummed that I hadn't visited during its heyday, but then I realized that I would have been even more disappointed and overall it's better this way!

This place is an amazing spot for coffee! Their syrups are housemade which I immensely appreciate,…read moreespecially with the many coffee shops in the area. I had an iced caramel latte and it was one of the best lattes I've had in a while. Perfect sweetness + enough of a caramel taste without being undrinkable. All the baristas I have interacted with have been very nice. It's a smaller space and the music is quite loud - not a great place to study, but I didn't mind grabbing my coffee and going. Will definitely be back.

Came with a friend to enjoy a hot beverage…read more Food: I ordered another London Fog, and it was very good. It had a nice creamy texture, and they did a good job steeping the tea. Unfortunately, by the time I started drinking it, the temperature was just a bit cooler than I prefer. I like my hot drinks to be at least 130°F. There wasn't much in the way of pastries or Danish that day, so I skipped having something to go with my tea. Service: Friendly and helpful service at the counter. Atmosphere: The café was about half full, with people quietly working on laptops or enjoying conversations with friends. Sugar, the shop cat, was wandering around as usual, and this time I was able to spend a little quality time with her. She's getting older and seems a bit frail, but she really enjoyed a good scratching under the chin. Another enjoyable visit, and a place I'd return to.
