I can honestly say I have never been to a snow cone place with more selection. If you just read the main menu, you will miss some of the options. We had been on the hunt for a good old shaved ice place and realized this wasn't too far away. How have we missed this? Set up in the corner of a strip mall parking lot, this tiny building has a walk up window and a bench on the side for you to enjoy your creation if you don't want to get it to go. Nice girl was working when we arrived. Three sizes (I couldn't even finish a small... just saying) and sooooo many flavors. They have a list of special flavors which are predetermined combos or you can create your own. I went with the shark attack (blue Hawaiian, cherry and shark gummies) but I had to get gummy bears since they were out of gummy sharks. Still a cute idea though, especially for kids. My girlfriend got a medium half mango half green apple. She was so excited to come here because she was looking for a place for awhile. She said it was absolutely perfect and she wants to come back immediately! The spoons change color when they get cold, and the plastic tray helps avoid messiness and melting drips getting all over your hands. I was really impressed! I love this place! Shaved ice is my favorite and I will only go to Tropical Sno! They have TONS of flavors and flavor combination options. They also have sauces and candy to put on top and ice cream for the bottom. I highly recommend asking them to pack the ice down to make it a little harder- otherwise it's very soft ice like ice cream. I also recommend getting pop rocks on top! I only get the sugarfree flavors and they usually have 3 sugar free flavors on hand. I wish they had more sugarfree options to choose from (it's usually pineapple, cherry and tigers blood) I'd love to see lemon, raspberry and coconut! I didn't think it could get better than that first bite but then as I kept going the shaved ice melted into the ice cream at the bottom and it was truly perfect. Finally, I have found a somewhat local place to get shaved ice. I mean the REAL shaved ice that is thin and melts in your mouth (not the chunky snow cones of the past.) As I have ranted many times before, PHOENIX of all places should have shaved ice on every corner. So the details: This is a little parking lot shed at 40th and Bell. Not sure of their hours, but they were open on Memorial Day and I said Hooray! There are three sizes and lots of great flavors! Been here 3 times in the month and have had a different experience each time. E.G., Older guy talks to you , younger staff, ( either sex) tend to communicate in a perfunctory manner so it's not the great service one goes for. Onto the ice itself,First two visits was an improvement over the usual attempt at shave ice in Phoenix and the spread of the syrup and retention till the end were pretty good. Today's made it half-way down then ice all the way and the visit prior was close to that too. Tropical sno's flavors aren't that subtle , not a huge fan of the insulated cups for the larger sizes which seems to be an issue with how the ice on the bottom freezes into bigger lumps that doesn't happen on the smaller plastic cup. Maybe a 3 on a good day but not much more. While it takes not much more effort to get this right I'm betting you can' t do it within the contstraints of a franchise.. read more
