Long story short, petco is so overrated and too many people and no new exciting fish. Also it doesn't seem like people know much at all. So I wanted to venture out with my boyfriend. We were around the area and decided to Yelp and stumbled upon this place, the name just grabbed my attention. Once we got there, the place well didn't look like much, which already tells me that this is a great mom and pop place lol. Anddddddd I WAS RIGHT!!!! What a great place, fish, snails, eels, just everything aquatic. They have tanks, plants of different kinds. Best of it all they have an amazing worker named, BRIAN sorry if I misspelled your name, amazingly knowledgeable and polite and patient. We got beautifull cool new fish and plants. Wait and a huggge snail and I named her Shelly. Lol I would much rather give my money to them, so so grateful this place exists. So happy and will certainly be going back. Got my axolotl here a year ago and he is so big and healthy, the fish here are good quality and have long lifespans, don't pass quick like the ones at other pet places. We did a little research about starting a tank and knew we couldn't just buy a bunch of fish right away but didn't know much more then that. They were super helpful and seemed to know more then most people we spoke to. Okay aquarium store in Hicksville has a wide variety of marine life from fresh to salt water fish. They have a great selection of plants as well. You can also find all the aquarium supplies you need here as well from filters to chemicals. The staff seem knowledgeable and willing to help and prices are a tad high but not much higher than Pet Smart. Biggest complaints are the tanks seem to be in dire condition. There's so much algae buildup on the display tanks the fish kind of look unhealthy. Also, peeking in the plant tanks, I saw some snails. My biggest problem in my tank were snails which are invasive and destructive. All it takes is a couple stow aways and your tank is ruined in weeks. I would shop here more due to the great selection but the fresh water fish tanks seriously need some cleaning. read more

Had not been in Tropical Showcase in over 15 years or so. There were not many workers in the store one lady behind the counter and one guy running around helping the customers, There might of been more but not in the 20 minutes i was there. Once the guy finished with the customer before me he asked if he can help me, And i told him what i was looking for. Unfortunately they did not have any at this time. The tanks seemed clean and the fish were healthy looking. they had a good selection of fresh water and salt water fish, as well as a ton of accessories and tanks. I went here to pick up a few things, and from what I can tell the staff are really not people persons. They seemed to be the kind of people who are hobbyists first and salespeople last, so keep that in mind when you approach this store. Do your research first, know exactly what you're looking for, and you'll find this a decent LFS to shop at. I've dealt with most of the employees or proprietors at one point or another and they are all perfectly pleasant and knowledgable. I don't know what other people are saying. First thing I noticed after entering the store is the large selection they have. There are A LOT of tanks with many different fish. There is a good selection of freshwater fish and plants here. I didn't see any interesting fish that I wanted but I don't want to take that away from the store because the selection is pretty good and they have more rare/un-common fish than I've seen in other fish stores. Also the owner seemed nice; I was looking for a certain plant which I didn't see on the main floor... he took the time to check the basement to see if they had more. He didn't find it but he offered to get some in for me the following week. Good service. read more

Terrible place. I purchased a $90 fish along with the shrimp that I feel the other fish in my tank, yet they didn't bother to tell me this tang doesn't eat shrimp, full well knowing I'm new to the fish world. The fish died after I tried everything and paid loads of money. When they came to clean my tank they left it clearly dirty, saying the rocks must settle. Sure enough when they left, the dirt didn't disappear when the rocks settled. Got a new cleaner today and the difference is night and day. read more

I been shopping here for years. Even though it under new management, this aquarium pet shop maintains it's charm.

My dad is into the hobby and comes here a lot. I mostly go for him or with him and Rocco and Jessie are super helpful. They are knowledgeable and patient. They also have a service to come to your house and take care of your tanks if your away or just need help! I think this is such a great service! I went to tropical show case not for any specific fish I was looking to stock a 10 gallon tank and I fell in love with a green spotted puffer he didn't even look healthy but he was so playful there were 6 others in what looked like a 5 gallon tank I didn't think much of it at the time but any way I talked to 2 different workers they all said totally different thing all far from the truth the main thing they said was the the puffer was completely fresh water and would be happy in a 5 gallon tank for it's whole life so I thought I was giving it a little extra room but in the end I found out the fish needed at least a 30 gallon tank and would very soon need a full saltwater tank after it fully matures and it would get to be 6 inches in length that was what I found then after that I found out my fish had a parasite Then I had to buy a 30 dollar fresh water aquarium salt to treat his parasite and now I have to buy at least a 30 gallon fish tank, the salt to make the saltwater, a protein skimmer, at least 2 power heads, a filter, filter cartridge's, water testers, and a salinity measurement gauge which will inevitably cost about $450 dollars and that is why I am giving them 0 stars read more

I would give them 10 STARS if I could. Customer service is second to none. I bought a tank and stand from them and there was a manufacturers defect in the tank. I couldn't get anywhere trying to deal with the manufacturer on my own. These guys stepped in and handled it and it was replaced. The entire staff is very helpful. An absolutely wonderful place. We started coming here when Petsmart was incredibly rude and had conflicting information. My brother reminded me of tropical showcase. It's the only place I will go to for my aquatic needs now. They are honest and willing to give you as much information as possible. They will not sell you something for the sake of making a sale. If it's not compatible with your tank they will make other suggestions. If you mention you had some fish die they will ask for a water sample so they can figure out what's wrong and help guide you through remedying the issue, instead of just restocking your tank. My son loves going there and asking "what's new?". If they aren't busy they will happily show him new fish and answer his 500 questions and give him more information. We've spent quite a bit of time in there (I also go in for crickets) so I get to witness how they speak to others. It's refreshing to hear someone in sales giving more information than product and wanting what's best for your tank almost as much as you. read more

I have had aquariums of some type for the past 15 years. When I moved to Levittown about a year and a half ago I found Tropical Showcase. Are the fish expensive? Yes they are more expensive then a Petco or similar larger store. The important question is are they healthy and the answer is a resounding YES, the fish from this store are healthy and good quality. I have not had a problem with the service her and in fact Gene has gone above and beyond to help me with issues that were in no way his fault (the 265 gallon tank that I bought from him sprung a leak) in fact he sent two of his employees over to help save my fish and help clean up/mitigate damage. He also housed my fish for me (at no cost) while I settled the insurance claim with the manufacturer and got the tank replaced. This Sunday I have a new reef tank coming from Tropical Showcase. I will be stocking it there also. read more
