I drove by Trolly Line and knew I had to stop in to try this new coffee shop as a coffee lover.

What I didn't foresee was that the ramp didn't lead directly to the restaurant. We went from the ramp into something like a storage closet. The turn from the ramp to the room was so tight that I basically had to do a three point turn to get her through the door. Then we had to get through a glass door, walk down a hall and THEN through to door to the restaurant. I seriously needed a rest after that trek. If my mom had been using her walker, she would not have made it into the restaurant. Once through the door though, we were cheerily greeted and seated. We had our drinks within a few minutes and a few minutes after that, we were ready to order. My mom ordered the fish sandwich and I got the Miss Calee burger. That was two mistakes in a row. The fish was overdone and a little hard. It was supposed to come with tartar sauce but it didn't. I would have asked for some but my mom didn't tell me until later. I don't think she ate half of her sandwich. My burger was definitely not much better. The patty was dried out and a hard. The dressing almost non existing - I did ask for more which helped a little but couldn't save the sandwich. I'm grew up in Pittsburgh and have lived in Alabama for 25 years. I am no stranger to slaw on my sandwiches. This slaw just didn't cut it - not even close. We both upgraded and had fries instead of chips. The fries saved the meal from being a complete disaster. I think the most telling sign about the food is that we left over half our meal and didn't bring the leftovers home for my dad. He will eat ANYTHING but in this case, it wasn't worth wasting a to-go box. Back to the handicapped accessibility - I took my mom to the restroom. It was barely large enough to get in chair in and there was absolutely no way possible to maneuver it in there. I keep calling her chair a "wheel" chair - it is actually a transport chair. It's much smaller than a traditional wheelchair. A regular wheelchair would have had problems getting around. Two positives, the prices were quite reasonable and I don't think there was a single employee without a smile. I wouldn't mind coming back one morning to try breakfast but I definitely won't be bringing mom.

The restaurant is large with lots of seating and not on top of other tables. Service was friendly and our food arrived promptly.  The robo-service was a cute and quite a functional addition to the dining experience. It brought entrees/meals to the assigned table and the server followed to serve the food. This was efficient because our meal came out and another server was able to grab the items off the robo-server and give them to our table.  The food was very good and portion sizes were equal to the price. We sampled the egg white veggie omelet with toast and homefries, which was cooked perfectly. The home fries were spot on! The eggs benedict were cooked just right and very tasty. We also enjoyed the pancakes and sausage. Very good consistency and flavorful.  A bonus that there was a carafe of syrup on the table instead of the little packets or small bottles.  Overall a great breakfast spot.  We will try their lunch menu in the future.

My third favorite from that special menu is the chicken and biscuits bowl made with chicken tenders, biscuits topped with 2 eggs, sausage gravy and cheddar! From the crepe menu on the wall behind the counter area, I went with the peaches and cream crepe with my hubby going with the sausage cheddar quiche plated with home fries. Both were good. 2 mugs of coffee for 4.00 is the price of 1 cup at places today. Bill was 23.54 which is a steal anymore for breakfast of this quality.

We were greeted upon entering, the lady at the counter was informative and nice, our service was quick, with the waitress stopping by several times, to check in on us. No complaints there. Portion sizes were hefty and not just for our meal of pancakes, meat and potatoes. I did a quick scan to see what other patrons had ordered and noticed large portions, as well. The food was tasty, cooked well and arrived to our table, super quick. Now to the negatives: spacing between tables, chairs, customer order counter, cramped. Do I want someone's butt in my face as I eat? Let me answer that one for you; No. Secondly, If you don't have the mechanics to make a decent latte, don't attempt it. Simply stick with a good cup of hot coffee. Pancakes were not fluffy, but flat, a tad chewy, but the flavor was good, nonetheless and I enjoyed the homemade whipped topping, albeit a bit too sweet. Homefries, tasted of the frozen variety and extremely mealy and the bacon, grocery store quality. The reason why I pick on your bacon and homefries, was because you tout yourself as a breakfast/lunch cafe and with that said, I'm anticipating elevated breakfast components, especially being surrounded by so many wonderful butchers.

The ambiance of the cafe is perfect, large windows allow light to pour into the bright space, exposed brick and the high ceilings give it a turn of the century industrial feel, and the inviting seating area by the front windows makes you want to curl up with a cup of coffee and just watch the world go by. We ordered two hot drinks and three entrees. The drinks were a Red Eye coffee with a splash of cream and a Dirty Chai, as well as some of the hard stuff, aka milk for the baby. Now the food, I literally could have eaten four helpings of everything. I'm still kicking myself for not ordering something to go. My husband ordered the Cajun Omelet with breakfast potatoes, if you order nothing else, get the breakfast potatoes, as they are as near to crispy potato perfection as you can get. The youngest member of the party had a Belgian Waffle, and I had a Fried Green Tomato sandwich on a homemade biscuit. I literally licked my fingers because I did not want to waste a crumb. The ONLY disappointing thing about the cafe is that we did not stumble onto it sooner. I look forward to making this eatery a frequent go to for morning, midday or evening bites. PS - if nothing else, the pay it forward board will give you all the feels when you stop in.
