This little corner cafe is magic. We went on a quiet Friday Morning and we're greeted promptly by the kind barista/waitress behind the counter. The ambiance of the cafe is perfect, large windows allow light to pour into the bright space, exposed brick and the high ceilings give it a turn of the century industrial feel, and the inviting seating area by the front windows makes you want to curl up with a cup of coffee and just watch the world go by. We ordered two hot drinks and three entrees. The drinks were a Red Eye coffee with a splash of cream and a Dirty Chai, as well as some of the hard stuff, aka milk for the baby. Now the food, I literally could have eaten four helpings of everything. I'm still kicking myself for not ordering something to go. My husband ordered the Cajun Omelet with breakfast potatoes, if you order nothing else, get the breakfast potatoes, as they are as near to crispy potato perfection as you can get. The youngest member of the party had a Belgian Waffle, and I had a Fried Green Tomato sandwich on a homemade biscuit. I literally licked my fingers because I did not want to waste a crumb. The ONLY disappointing thing about the cafe is that we did not stumble onto it sooner. I look forward to making this eatery a frequent go to for morning, midday or evening bites. I can't wait to return and try more items on the menu. This place is a gem and representative of what Columbia needs to be. Menu is all your cafe standards with a section devoted to soul food. We got the soul rolls and the fried chicken sandwich. Both were very good. The sandwich was very flavorful. I liked the soul rolls as well, but wish some of the individual ingredients came through a little more. Someone else in our party got the loaded breakfast omelet and was very happy with it. The space is bright, modern, and inviting. It's clear the owner, who checked on us during our meal, is passionate about the food. She and all the staff who cared for us are top-notch. read more

Was excited to go there but disappointed. They used a pint container (like you get your cole slaw at the grocery deli) and disposable silverware. I got a pint of grits with 5 shrimp on the top ! It was not appealing to the eye and was very salty dish. The chives on top were missing. My friend got the chicken sandwich which she enjoyed ' nice ambience but overpriced. Very disappointing. My husband & I were looking for a different breakfast out and I found this Cafe 301 on Google. I found the menu interesting. The venue is very nice. Lovely blue awnings, high ceiling, stuffed sofa & chairs in addition to dining tables & some nice art. Walked up to a Starbucks-like counter& the very nice employee hands the two of us one menu and says we will order there at the counter with her. Ok. The menu is not what I saw on the website, disappointing. We both order sausage gravy over biscuits (notice the plural) and an order of bacon, iced tea and a mango lemonade. The mango lemonade has no ice and I can't tell you what was mixed with the lemonade but it wasn't mango. No ice in the iced tea either. There is a separate counter set up with water that you tap yourself, no ice and your utensils and napkins. Not long after the food arrives & the friendly employee says, "be careful. It's hot." No it's temped and in a Styrofoam bowl. The food on the website on on ceramic plate and bowls. It is one biscuit split, not the biscuits mentioned on the menu covered in sausage gravy. I must says the gravy was tasty. The bacon came in a takeout box and three of the five pieces were burnt microwave style When you're finish you bus your own table to available trash receptacles. The trying to be Starbucks counter has limited bakery choices. We did not try any because frankly it wasn't tempting. Our experience costed us $31 dollars and change. The counter staff was two friendly teenage looking girls, no fault with them. You might enjoy this place to grab coffee with a friend and chat. However, we will not br returning. read more

What a absolute treasure this place is nestled in the heart of Columbia, PA. I just met a friend for breakfast here last week and I cannot wait to return. I indulged in the breakfast soul roll and my friend had the gf egg and potato bowl. The flavors were incredible and the portion size was perfect for beeakfast. Our hot beverages were some of the best we have ever had, and the ambiance of this place is so welcoming. I will definitely be returning in the future. Okay, I found this hidden gem today on the way back from my girls volleyball tournament. Absolutely, the best staff and service, not to mention the food is absolutely fire! You can tell the owner and chef puts love into every dish! I had the chicken and waffles with hot sauce and believe it or not ranch dressing. Somehow she made it work! My girls had the shrimp and grits and the sausage gravy with chicken and biscuits. It was so appealing to eye I forgot to take pictures but won't forget the next time I am there! We really, really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately both times we visited the staff, although nice and well-meaning, could not manage the order flow. The first time we waited a long time, probably got our food in about 40 minutes. We gave them a second chance on another Saturday at lunch time; when we asked about our food at the 40-minute mark we were told it would be another 20 minutes. One hour in total for egg sandwiches served in takeout containers. People who came in after us waited, then left without ordering. I understand this is not fast food, but the staff didn't seem to think an hour wait was slow. To me this is a management issue: there were three staff, two in front and only one in back. We were not told our food would be delayed -- and the food coming out of the kitchen seemed to be coming out one dish at a time, as though the kitchen was making each item separately rather than each order concurrently. The barista was working diligently but was simply slow, so the drinks were also very backed up. Our iced coffee -- cold brew poured over ice with milk added -- was only ready 20 minutes after we made our original order. I would suggest additional staff at peak times or additional training for current staff to manage, at the minimum, customer expectations. read more

I must say, this place is a great spot for breakfast! My wife suggested it, so we decided to try it. Cafe 301 is a very spacious coffee shop with a good amount of tables. The barista behind the counter was very friendly. They have a nice array of breakfast items, such as waffles and egg dishes. I decided to get biscuits with sausage gravy and a piece of chicken breast. The sausage gravy was delicious and had a hint of sweetness. The biscuit was flaky and the chicken brought it to the next level! Also chasing it down with a nice iced coffee really did trick. Great spot, would totally return if in the area again! read more

They gave us 1 breakfast sandwich that was correct and 2 that were completely different than what we had ordered. We also ordered chai lattes which lacked flavor. I had the turkey sandwich on a biscuit and it was excellent. It was thick cut turkey that was moist. The biscuit was tasty. It was a much better combination than expected.
