Very good beer its picnic like bring your own food the food truck is expensive with a captive audience

Just got back from my first visit here, and I'm definitely impressed! I was a bit skeptical of what the environment would be like going in, considering Triptych is located in a commercial office building area of Savoy, but they did a really nice job of imparting a relaxed coffee-shop-esque sort of feel to the space. There's a nice bar with about 8 seats right in front of you when you walk in, and off to the right about 10 tables (including an AWESOME chess board table made out of grains!). The menu is on a three panel LCD board that cycles through with nice photography to go with each beer they offered; a nice touch. As far as the beer goes, I was impressed! Definitely my favorite of the breweries operating in Champaign (Destihl and Blind Pig Brewery being the other two), I really liked the Imperial IPA and its intense fruity / citrus notes without over the top bitterness. The English Pale Ale was nicely malty and very good, and the Scottish Session Ale and Oatmeal Stout were also solid. I'm not a huge fan of fruit beers, but for those that like cherry stouts, the Valentine would be superb. I definitely see myself returning here often! read more

All right, guys, I'm about to put my skinny jeans, flannel, and dark rimmed glasses on so be forewarned: there is a very hipster, snooty review coming up. I love craft beer and it always gets me excited to visit small microbreweries across the country. What I typically find is that they're fairly hit or miss. Some menu items are boring/mediocre, but there are usually one or two highlights (sometimes, if you're really lucky, you find a real gem). Triptych falls into this category for me. While there were no gems and while I was not too impressed with their beers overall, there were two worth discussing. The first for me was the Mind The Gap. They describe it as a hoppy pale ale, which I'd say is pretty accurate. It pours a light golden yellow color and it's relatively low ABV (5.3%) but it has a really nice, fresh citrus-y hop flavor that I really enjoyed. They also had an interesting sour with some raisin notes. Other than that, the other beers didn't stand out to them. The Barrel aged stout is a fairly standard offering at craft breweries (but tasty enough), the XOCO is a smooth chocolate stout but it's lacking in chili flavor and complexity, the Phil's English IPA was sort of flat and boring, the Punky town had intense pumpkin spice flavor....if you're into that kinda thing (I tend to find these gimmicky, but hey, my jeans are too tight so cut me some slack). Prices here are fantastic, though ($1.50-$2 for a 4oz pour) so I won't complain too much :-). Flights are the way to go so you can taste a bunch and find the one you really like. I do love the atmosphere of this place. They have a large assortment of board games and it's easy to spend a couple hours here drinking and having a good time. For a small microbrewery in the middle of a teeny college town in IL, Triptych deserves 4 stars. Though there weren't any standouts when I went I'd be curious to try more of their brews. ...that review wasn't too snooty, now, was it? read more

I love spending the occasional evening at Triptych. The beer here comes in many varieties, that change all the time, the prices are really good and there are smaller sample sizes for each beer on tap. They also sell jugs, and have various games you can play at their tables. Awesomely, they allow people to bring their own food, so spending time here is really fun! read more

This was my third trip to Triptych. I haven't been disappointed in the brews at any point. The space is good and clean and bright. It doesn't have a pub like feel similar to the Blind Pig. I think that the beers are more interesting here compared to any other place in C-U. This last trip I got a coffee and vanilla brown ale. The flavors were subtle and balanced and it still tasted like a brown ale, thankfully. Prices are affordable. The main reasons that I don't come as often as I should are that they are just a little off the beaten path and they close fairly early (10 on weekdays and 11 on weekends). read more

Savoy IL is not the first place I think of when I'm searching for excellent craft beer. However Triptych fits the bill. Unique and tasty craft brews in a genuine small town environment. The brewers man the bar here frequently and are happy to talk beer, or anything local. The beers are unique and varied with a nice selection rotating regularly. There are numerous beers aging in cask in the tasting room, and often 1 or two are tapped. The tasting room has plenty of room for board games, cards, or just lounging and since they do not serve their own food they allow you to bring in any outside food. read more

Reasonable prices, a good variety of choices, and a chill environment. I really like the taster glasses that allow you to sample a bunch of different beers in one sitting. We weren't here very long, but I will definitely come back for a longer visit next time I'm in the area. read more

Beer is fine. Used to live in the PNW and do some home brewing, so I'm pretty sick of IPAs and was sad to see their menu was 80% pale ales. The server was awful, though. We asked about the IBUs for one of their beers, and he snapped that it was a "meaningless measurement." Okay. Then we asked if he could describe it, if it was maybe a middle of the road IPA? He said no. No more info added. Will not be returning. read more

I was passing through Savoy on my way home from St. Louis and figured I would stop in and see the place after trying many of their beers back home. The brewery has two taprooms right across the street from each other. Decided to try the main building as I didn't know about the second taproom until I was inside. Great selection of beer, awesome friendly staff and a bunch of games to play; shuffle board, dates, board and card games. They Also had a food truck there but I didn't try it. After finding out they had a couple more beers on tap across the street at the "Memery" as they call it, I decided to go over there to give them a try. Absolutely beautiful fresh new build and awesome view of the working brewery. The bartender in there Nick was an absolute blast! Very friendly, welcoming, fun and overall great personality lead to my experience being over the top at Triptych. A couple more workers came in including Josh, who I assume was one of the brewers as a beer was named after him, #dammitjosh. He was another individual who you can tell loved his job and was more than happy to talk about beer, the brewery and how a beer got named after him. The whole time I was in there I felt as if I was part of the family! Triptych is lucky to have these two individuals as part of their family. They truly make me want to come back and just hang out again, even though I live 2 hours away! Excellent place highly recommend! read more

Cool music on my trip. They're trying their best. I like the selection, and their display boards. Really cool to see the different levels left for each beer. I think their beer will continue to get better and evolve over time. Right now, I think they're still at that young brewery stage where they're trying to get out more product rather than the absolute best product, but we'll see. These guys are off to a good start. Comfy little tap room, nice digital menu with a spot for recent Untappd check-ins and most importantly a decent selection of brews. Tried about half of them and all were at least solid while two of them outshined the rest. With 7 barrel tanks, I'm sure the menu will be different by the time you read this so just try everything- the price is right. read more

Triptych has the best beers and I love when they do limited time variations of their beers! I'm glad that they expanded their seating and it's awesome that different beers are offered at The Memery across the street! If you want a brewery that never rests on its laurels and always tries to improve, this is the place. I moved to the area right after it opened about 5 years ago, and it's been the best place to get real, ambitious, local beer. There aren't a lot of breweries in the Champaign-Urbana area but that doesn't matter because Triptych is really the only one you need. Their beer list is constantly rotating and you can even see how much of a certain brew they have left on their website. This is important if you fall in love with a certain beer, though you can't really go wrong with any of their selections. The prices are great. You pay less than you would at other bars for comparable pints and what's more is you're getting the beer straight from the source. There is ample seating and the staff is very friendly. You are even allowed to bring your own food in which is awesome. There are also a selection of board games to play with friends. Like any other brewery they have growlers you can take home. You pay once for the growler and then you can have it filled on future visits. read more

My husband and I absolutely love coming to Triptych! This is a stop we make no matter why we are in the are! The bartenders are amazing! We most recently enjoyed visiting with Jason and Tom! This was by far the most fun trip we have made to Triptych! The Memery was so chill and so much fun!! We always go home with delicious 4-Packs of beer! Triptych never disappoints!! read more

Really enjoyed this brewery. My boyfriend and I have visited many microbreweries and this one rates fairly high up. Kind of an odd location, but yet nice because it is somewhat secluded and not too busy. Several seating options. You can sit at the bar, high pub tables, or booth style seats. I believe they also have free wifi. There is an electronic display behind the bar that shows what beers are on tap. It also shows how much is left in the keg and it is in sync with their website too which I found very cool. I can't remember the bartender's name but he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the brews. My boyfriend chatted with him for some time. We each tried 3 brews and were very pleased with all of them. If I am in the area again I will definitely be stopping in! read more

Triptych is easily in my top 5 list, not just locally, or regionally, but period. Their beer offerings a creativity that keeps me on my toes and they rarely make a beer that I don't like. Depending on the season, the menu might be a little heavier in stouts, ipas, or whatever seasonal inspiration they might find. Make sure to keep an eye on their Facebook page to see what Rich's Randall might be on Thursday, it is always worth a visit to see what he can come up with! There is literally something for everyone there. The tasting room itself is fantastic. Even when it's busy you will find somewhere to be. The gals and guys behind the bar never cease to amaze me with their kindness and their willingness to talk. I stopped in for the first time in a while and was definitely not disappointed. "Attenuation: Part Deux", the brut IPA, was definitely a highlight of the visit. It was really nice to see the progress that has been made to the taproom since the brewery expansion, I believe there may actually be enough room for everyone that comes to Festivus this year. A great group of people brewing and pouring great beers. Everyone in your group will be able to find something that suits their palate. The tasting room is casual and comfortable, with a great outdoor space to enjoy in warmer months. They don't serve food, but have local food trucks on property on a regular basis, and will also allow you to bring in your own food. read more

We've been around Triptych since its foundation 7 years ago, and perhaps a bit before. It's our favorite brewery, bolstered by established beers and an unceasing effort to innovate. Then there's Festivus and AJ's Stout....but you get the drift. And the people are as likable as the beer. read more

I can't believe we have a brewery as awesome as Triptych in central Illinois. The staff is fantastic and the beer is outstanding. I used to buy lots of different beers from the big liquor chains in the area, trying to find my new favorite, but not anymore. All of my favorite beers are made by Triptych. In summation, Triptych makes really great beer. If you haven't tried it, do yourself a favor and go now! I love all of their hazy IPAs, but they make some extremely good pilsners, sours and stouts as well. read more

I used to travel to Germany on a regular basis and developed a fondness for weizen beer. I have tried several different brands here in the States but have always been disappointed with them. After seeing a local news story on Triptych, I checked their website and saw that they had a hefeweizen on tap. Today was my first trip there and I didn't spend much time looking the place over, but asked for a sample, which they provided. I found it to be as close to my old German favorite as anything I've sampled since, so I bought a 32oz growler. Any beer is a matter of personal taste, but I really enjoyed this one. I expect to purchase more of this in the weeks ahead and try some of their other brews as well. read more
