Great wine selection, delicious bites, reserved but enthusiastic and knowledgeable service. I'm not a wine drinker by any stretch of the imagination so I often tell my wine drinking friends that taking me to a place like this is casting pearls before swine. I'm really glad my boss, who is familiar with the area, suggested we go here on a recent business trip to Champaign. I was educated on wine to the extent possible (like showing fire to a Neanderthal) by a patient and friendly staff and served some delicious bites, all of which went perfectly with our wine choices. We had the orange wine and Sangiovese and both were quite nice. We then complimented wine with a fish plate and a cheese plate that were also very nice but too much for two people. So we were disappointed that we could not combine a half cheese plate and half fish plate and I would hope that this choice could be offered in the future. Let me preface my review by saying I walked across Spain a few years ago and got hooked on Spanish wine and food. Ladro Enoteca brings a wine bar with favorites from Spain and Italy to CU. I am in love!! place is my new favorite place in town! There are many wines and some excellent Spanish and Italian wine by the glass, They also have Italian and Spanish Antipasto dishes, Note: this is definitely not an Italian or Spanish restaurant, but more akin to the sort of food one might be able to order at a wine bar in those countries. I had the La Comarcal Delmoro Tinto (red wine) from Valencia and it was outstanding! I also got the pequillo stuffed manzanilla olives and they will actually make you wonder how it is we can so mess up olives in the US. We got the cheese platter and the seafood platter and both were excellent. Try the pulpo (octopus). Incredible!! I am halfway hesitant to write the review because I want them all to myself! The small critique I have is that it would be amazing to have a half platter for those dining alone. Otherwise, perfecto! read more

This is an amazing wine/spirits shop- NOT a restaurant, although they do have small plates to eat with your drinks that are wonderful. This is an excellent place to pick up a bottle (or can) of something new, that you've never heard of before. This is the concept of Thad Morrow, the former owner of Bacaro in Champaign (RIP best restaurant in this area ever) so it doesn't disappoint. If you want to get out of your comfort zone a little and have some small plates along the way, this is for you. The spirits are front and center here, which is unique to this town, and something that was needed. There are only a handful of tables and it does get busy on the weekends- for good reason- so get there early. This is a great place for a gift as well, there are many things I'd never heard of in the store, which is great for that hard to buy for person.
