Aftward, there is a tasting of 4 of their amaros, with a few snacks. It's a flavor adventure; the amaros are much sweeter, delicate, and nuanced than standard amaros. Here's the run-down: Orchards: 23% ABV: A softer, lighter, and more nuanced version of Amaro Montenegro. Woodlands: 21% ABV: Very heavy cacao note with figs. It's almost a chocolate liqueur. Can be used in place of Averna in a Black Manhattan. Fields: 35% ABV: Very sweet, and heavy on the celery and butterscotch. Chaparral: 46% ABV; A lighter version of Green Chartreuse that is heavy on the mint and green tea. After the tour, you can stay and order food at the tasting table, but it's better to make a reservation in the main dining room. The place is small and books up way in advance. K&L Wines sells the amaros for less than the price at the distillery.

Our bike party of four decided to make a pit stop here after lunch on our way back across the bridge. We were most interested in the whisky and the rum fermented with whisky yeast. Three of us decided to do a bit of tasting. - all very flavorful, smooth spirits which went down easy. I took home the chocolate bourbon, American whisky and rum. The prices for each bottle are so reasonable at $40- $45 each. There's also a casual seating area where people were congregating and enjoying their spirits. Unfortunately for us, this would not have been a great idea with all of us on bicycles. Treecraft is a destination worth visiting to try their local made vodka, gin, whiskies and rum when going to Treasure Island. I'm a fan of supporting local. I'd like to try their vodka and gin on my next visit. For now, I enjoy the American whisky over rocks though!

It was a cute place and parking was easy. I liked that it was a little bit in the middle of nowhere and there weren't many people around until we were getting ready to go...it seemed like we went from being the only people there to the place being packed in a matter of 15 minutes so I suggest coming early if you want to avoid the crowds. We came on a hot July day with a group of 5 but one was a DD and we brought our small dog as always. The fact that it is dog friendly is one of the main reasons we came. The porta-potty they have near the tables for use was clean enough, but really hot on a warm day after a few drinks. The owner/maker did our tasting and for our drink at the end, I requested something "off menu" made with the spirit I most preferred. I was not disappointed. We ended up getting a bottle of our favorite to take home. Overall, it was a nice way to spend an hour or so together and we enjoyed being able to support a small business and learn a little along the way. If you love gin, as one person in our group did, then I highly recommend coming but even if you don't this is a nice little experience and a good way to sample new flavors and learn about local business.

Hell, even a Gin & Tonic made with 209 is a refreshing treat on a hot day. I highly recommend visiting their distillery on Pier 50 (next to AT & T Park), which, coincidentally, is the birthplace of the gin martini (true story). In the past, they've offered private tours and tastings at the facility. I remember a few years back, they hosted a fun cocktail making class. A group was divided into to teams of 4 people and given a medley of ingredients, and they all competed to make the best tasting gin libation. Believe me when I say, in competitions like these, EVERYONE is a winner. The next time you're at an upscale bar and in the mood for a tasty gin beverage. Be sure to ask for 209 gin.
