It was my first time here. The price was surprisingly cheap and the quality was surprisingly good. There were many varieties. I bought cannoli, cookies, cheese cake, raspberry jelly cake, and Oreo cupcake. Cannoli has three fillings to choose from. I tried chocolate and ricotta fillings. Both were good. We buy cakes & pastries from the Tripoli bakeries in Lawrence & North Andover (we live in Andover, close to both bakeries) for all of are our family's special occasions and work parties, ever since we moved to Andover 2 years ago. Their in-house baked pastries are delicious and fresh, their pizza is great, but what sets Tripoli apart from other bakeries, in my opinion, is their excellent customer service! The pizza is good. The red sauce is sweet. It loses a star for only having 3 selections of pizza cheese extra cheese pepperoni Nothing else so that's kinda disappointing. But it still works I'm not a pizza fan so I don't get the hype for it but locals swear by it. The also cook the pizza for slices they cook a whole pie but they put the pepperoni ones next to the cheese one and that a huge problem for me as I don't eat pork. The guy actually used the same knife to cut the pepperoni for some one else and then use it to cut my cheese slice. When I asked him to use a different knife and cut a different slice I got a look like "really your going to make me do more work" so that mines one star The cupcakes here are disgusting. There prebaked then flash frozen and then thawed out in the display . The frosting is overly sweet and not in a good way. The cake it self is so dry and tasteless you throw it out after the 1st bit. My wife and I selected Tripoli Bakery based on the reviews we read online and hoped that we would not be disappointed in ordering a cake for our Christmastime wedding. We met with Sherri and she helped us design the cake. She could not have been more attentive to our needs. She was very professional and friendly and we could tell she wanted the cake to look and taste just as perfect as we did. Upon ordering, she told us it would be ready on the day and time needed. She did not disappoint on that however, when the cake box was opened at the best man's home some seven miles away, the topper that had the date of the wedding was not on the cake nor in the box. I phoned Sherri and she found the topper at the bakery and had it Ubered to us at no extra cost to us. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty. The cake itself was beautiful and tasted far better than expected! All of the guests raved about it and I suspect they'll be visiting Tripoli Bakery for their baking needs in the future. Overall, the cake was outstanding and Sherri and her service were even better. We also recommend the bread pudding and M&M cookies. If it was possible to give Tripoli six stars, I would do so! read more

Fast forward 23 years later I stop by everything was the same quality as when I was a kid! They sell a Bismarck. A long doughnut filled with jelly and cream topped with icing and rainbow sprinkles! Earlier this year I spent four weeks back home and was bummed when I was heading back to LA and leaving the delicious pizza behind until I discovered that Tripoli would ship it's pizza to me all the way in California. Yes, I realize that shipping a giant box of pizza to myself on the other side of the country is crazy but it is that good....trust me! My poor husband, he had to hear me talk about beach pizza and how amazing it is on a daily basis until we finally ran out of it. After the pizza arrived the owner called us several times to ask all different questions related to the packaging and delivery. We thought that was pretty cool, he seemed genuinely concerned about whether or not the pizza arrived frozen. It did arrive frozen and we were actually very impressed with the packaging. Basically like other yelpers have said, this is like pulling out a Bakery out of a supermarket and placing it seperatly somewhere else, you would think they would have an exclusive Hispanic Baker making the Traditional latin pastries and an American baker making the traditional American stuff all fresh every morning. Nope, instead everything is just ordered in different places, got some cookies for my kids and the girl picked out the wrong ones. I though they were just individually packed to maintain the most freshness possible but when I got home and looked behind it had its own labeling from some other place like they just bought a pack of cookies and put them on a tray :/ There was a huge line with no order throughout the whole place all the girls looked grumpy, one of them on the phone with a face like she could care less about speeding up the call and helping her fellow co worker who at the time was by her self on one side of the counter. The side where the Dominican pastries were located were put out in a way I saw them and immediately knew what specific bakery they came from, I was disapointed thinking i would come across some fresh stuff instead they just bring a tray of there pastries and in a few days if there stuff doesnt sell they get credit for it and a new tray (Im guessing like alot of businesses do often with things like Bread ect) I mean if your going to order stuff from different spots atleast ask for them to be cut and served in a different way so it could have a unique look to it and not just have customers grim at it and think to there self "hhmmm thats from that place down the street" or whatever... Last but not least, the Cheesecake, I love me some cheesecake, it was a big let down, being you didnt get that sweet but not too sweet taste which is what makes it that much cheesier. The girl was in such a hurry she ran off and brought the slices without asking if i wanted them with strawberry filling as a topping or plain. It didn't have a crust meaning they must have used something to hardened it so that the cheese custard wouldn't break apart and be a hassle to cut in slices, so im guessing they either use a little bit of cake flour or some cornmeal, which gives it a harder texture and at the same time takes away alot of that cheesy flavor :( in fact these strategies are used in tropical places to make it more convinient in places where their more likely to melt... It's another hit or miss. Somethings like canoli, breads, and classic pastry they do amazingly well. I was saddened by the generic brought in tasteless Italian cookies, and hydrogenated shortening in many of their products. Where's the butter? They changed the recipe of my favorite cookies, "real" biscotti. They are half the size, but the same price, and they taste horrible. So tough they don't even soften when soaked in milk or coffee. This place has gone downhill so bad since they have been expanding locations. read more

So there is no bakery where I live at all! Can you believe I live in a town with 6 banks, 8 hair salons and 4 coffee shops!! So I asked around and Tripoli kept coming up as a place to try out... so we went. The place is outdated looking and has a pizzeria attached. When you walk in there is a gigantic counter filled with desserts and cookies with about 6 people working the counter (and for a reason). The place is so busy that in the time it took us to pick out a bread and a dessert for a party they served 15 people! So we get a cheesecake, two cookies for the girls and a boston scala bread. Can I say that the bread competes with our fav bakery in the North End, and the cheesecake was amazing! So happy to have found this place and have been every week since finding it for bread! :) The Pizza place is ok, the spinach calzone is the best so I'llbe sure to get that again... the pizza on the other hand was skimpy on the cheese and tasted like they used sugar in the sauce...which for being a first generation italian girl am NOT a fan of, and neither were my husband or kids. That strawberry cake is lighter than air and so delicious I had no problem going back for a second (and quite large) piece. The strawberry leaves were so delicious and I must admit the only reason I tried them was because they were my favorite color. Pretty much the last bakery standing amongst the historic four corners of South Lawrence. Almost everything is good here--the bread is fantastic, as is the random Italian cookie assortments. While in Lawrence one day my buddy and I headed over to Tripoli's. We were there to get Pizza but we were a little early and the pizza shop wasn't open yet so we grabbed some sweet treats. We were both starved and we let our stomach's do the ordering. I got a little of everything and a pound of Cookies :-P. The macaroons that are half dipped in Chocolate are Phenomenal, also the small lemon pies are to die for, but the cookies were so fresh and sooo friggen cheap I couldn't believe it. We got out of the bakery only spending $14 and had enough sweets to put us in a sugar coma for a few hours. Then the pizza shop opened. They only have like 5 flavors of pizza. Regular shredded cheese, xtra shredded, provolone slice, american slice, and pepperoni. The sauce is so delicious. Just a fantastic piece of pizza. If you haven't ben to Tripoli go there now, you won't regret it I promise! read more

The Lawrence store is GREAT, I don't know why the N. Andover store isn't! Can't p;ut my finger on it, maybe just the vibe, the ambiance. (The only reason I gave 4 stars.) The Lawrence store has the sunlight pouring in...everyone is in a good mood, and maybe the pastry's are a little better, a little fresher. For special occasions our family always go for the Vanilla layered/frosted cake with fresh strawberries on top. Delicious, special. We order a wedding cake from Tripoli Bakery. Sheri (or Sherry or Sherri) was extremely patient with us since we had no idea what we wanted. We went to a cake tasting there and picked out our own cake flavor, filling, and frosting. We ordered a tier cake for the cutting and sheet cakes to serve. The cakes were delicious. Everyone was raving about them. Some guests told me that "this was the best wedding cake I've ever eaten". The tier cake was beautiful; it had flowers and a perfect design. We went here because of the Yelp reviews and because I like their 1950s style sign. We didn't try the pizza on our first visit, just the desserts. I got rasperry cookies, a chocolate cookie that was kinda like a Pepperidge Farm Milano, and a flaky pastry thing. All were very good. I like this place better than Piro's. In particular, the raspberry cookies have a more flavorful raspberry filling and the dough part has a nice vanilla flavor. Probably won't try the pizza since I don't like sweet sauce. (Do they really ask if you want a slice of American cheese on it?!) According to their sign, they're open 365 days/year. read more

So crispy, flaky, and perfectly sweet without being nauseating... the filling is rich and creamy and has the perfect amount of sweetness balanced by a the slight crunch and bitterness of the chocolate chips. One bite and I am in heaven. It's a good thing I only make it out to Lawrence once very few years or my hips would be in serious trouble. Stop here for treats before or after your fantastic Mexican meal a block away at Cafe Azteca. Buy an extra stick so you can scarf half of one down on your way home. Great place to grab dinner and then dessert next door! The pizza is delilcious. The sauce is sweet, not too much cheese, and the crust is not too chewy or crispy. You can specify whether you want and edge, corner, or middle slice. You do have to be somewhat assertive when trying to get to the counter and ordering. The added bonus of this place is that if you are still hungry after your piizza, you can go next door for italilan cookies, cannoli, or even a whole cake if you are so inclined! read more

Holidays and birthdays are not complete without a cake from Tripoli Bakery. I always get a Boston Creme Pie cake, along with an assortment of cookies, italian pastries and rolls. Very well priced. Cakes must be ordered in advance. They also has a small area off to the side that sells pizza slices. Tripoli Bakery has existed in the city of Lawrence since World War II, and is one of the last surviving gems of the city. It's main competitor is Piro's Bajery in Methuen. I didn't even enter the pizza side of Tripoli, so this review only concerns the bakery side. I went in for the first time intending to try a few things but not sure what I wanted to buy. As I hemmed and hawed, at least two individual employees asked if they could help me. I finally chose a few items including a square of chocolate cake with chocolate pudding inside that the young woman waiting on me recommended. Little cookies sandwiched together with chocolate tasted very bland -- my 9 year old didn't like them and I didn't want to eat them, either. They weren't bad, just kind of meh. The lobster tail was excellent, with crunchy pastry and rich cream inside. Awesome. The chocolate cake square was sweet but not as chocolaty tasting as I expected it. Good but not great. Cheesecake slice was very, very good. Creamy, sweet, a bit on the heavy side. The Napoleon was pretty good. The pastry was rather tough but otherwise a reasonable representation. The slice of rolled tiramisu was disappointing. The cream inside was almost flavorless and had a weird greasy quality like vegetable shortening, and the cake was so heavily soaked with coffee-tasting stuff that it was dense and almost wet. If you really like tiramisu, get some at Dolce Freddo Gelato in Methuen -- it's far superior. read more

Tripoli Bakery is located in downtown Lawrence. They also have a stand at Salisbury beach. I hear that their pizza is out of this world, however, I have not had the chance to try it yet. There is always a HUGE line around lunch time for pizza at this place. They have the biggest variety of pastries and cookies I have ever seen. Among some of their choices are italian cookies, strawberry shortcake, cupcakes, whoopie pies, eclairs, canolies, cheesecake, bear claws, fruit tarts and bizmarks. They also have many different varieties of freshly baked breads. I have been here a handful of times, and every time I go in, I'm overwhelmed with the choices they have. The strawberry shortcake is out of this world. The cheesecake is probably the best cheesecake I have ever had. The prices are not bad considering the quality of their food. They also do wedding cakes. I am planning on getting my wedding cake from them. I have spoken with their decorator and he said that they can "re-create" anything I want if there is something specific that I want. They did tell me they do not do "neon" colors, which is fine with me. Their wedding cake pricing starts at $2.00 per person for your standard flavors. I highly reccomend this place to anyone looking for an outstanding bakery. I work in the area, so its really close, but worth the drive if you are not familiar with the Lawrence area.
