Stuffed French Toast deluxe
Lori D.

Haven't been back here in years. While some of the faces were new, the food is still the same. Makes me a little nostalgic. Everyone is always pleasant & have no problems with customizing orders. The layout hasn't changed at all. They have a genourous size dining room, along with a bar top & side booths. It seems the breakfast menu has been reduced & prices have increased a tad. I'll blame it on n covid. The price of everything has increased. I didn't mind too much. I'd like to see this place remain in business. Of course I came here with a large appetite for breakfast. While the French Toast wasn't actually stuffed they were scrumptious after I had to assemble the toppings. I wasn't really pleased about that. I guess food that makes you work will taste better. I was pleased that there were 3 thick slices. Other places will only serve 2. I was also pleased with the fat piece of sausage, instead of the standard 2 little links other places give. I ordered my eggs over medium & they were perfect. A deep, thick yellow yolk. The establishment doesn't scream clean, but if you really look it is. I think it's the old decor that stands out more. I left full & satisfied. Be careful, if you have a full day planned. If you ate like me, expect a food coma to come knocking on your door.

They recently updated their interior with new floors and booths giving the place a fresh look. Very good lunch and great service. It wasn't very busy so we're we're seated right away and our server was professional and attentive. He checked in often to see if we needed drinks, etc. I had a burger and she had an omelette. Both my French fries and her home fries were really good. Well done like we requested. I didn't leave here saying it was the best burger ever - but it was a good diner burger and not greasy at all. Price was right - 2 adult meals and a soda for $19! Cheaper than fast food!!! We really like it here close and consistently good for diner food. We always have good experiences here. Not a 5 star steakhouse experience but definitely a 5 star diner experience!

Egg and bacon sandwich

We had a late lunch, staff was extremely helpful. The ambience was relaxed. Cool multicolored leds and lots of mirrors. Food gave a very home cooked meal feeling. The waffles were light and airy. The bacon and egg sandwich was perfectly cooked and salted; most diners make bacon not very crunchy and a bit displeasing and this was a pleasant surprise. Good experience we will return.

Service was pleasant, food was not. Tip off should have been the incredibly strong bleach odor and filthy fish tank.

I'm back! The restaurant is located on 389 Main St. in East Hartford, CT. It's been a few months…read moresince I was last here (December) which is a crime. Carmine's is a fresh from scratch kitchen that is ALWAYS open. Their appetizers, pastas, entrees and desserts combine old-world traditional Italian flavor with a modern flair for presentation, and the freshest ingredients around. Menu staples like rigatoni bolognese, fettuccine carbonara and chicken Milanese are coupled with unique recipes like chicken ala vodka and toasted almond cake. They've staffed the kitchen with a dream team of chefs and you can tell instantly! They also do parties, catering and online ordering/delivery. The restaurant is well known for its live music. There is never a cover and parking is always free. This place and produces absolutely amazing food and drinks. I have noticed quite a few menu changes. The Happy Hour menu has expanded. It's also no longer all day Monday. The main menu no longer has prices on featured drinks (although that's the tre d these days). Note that the Bar Bites menu is available open to close! The Main Menu looks the same although there is a new Wine List (that's a first here). The music is very pleasant and the right volume level. It's always a big cool in here too. For my first drink, I'm having a Pratt N Whiskey. This is made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, sweet vermouth, red wine and sour mix. It's definitely an unusual drink. It's not garnished, but it tastes great. The wine sticks out for sure. It's clearly a shaken drink not often found with a whiskey component except for maybe Whiskey Sours. For my first item, I'm having the House Salad made with spring mix, basil, tomatoes, julienned (thinly sliced) carrots, cucumbers and house red wine vinaigrette dressing. This is a big portion! I love this dressing! This tastes great! For my next item, I'm trying the Carmine's Secret Tenderloins. These are off of Carmine's "Secret Menu." They are pan seared, caramelized chicken tenderloins, made with wine, olive oil, cracked black pepper (dried black peppercorns broken into coarse, uneven pieces), kosher salt (a coarse, flaky salt named for its use in the Jewish koshering process of drawing blood from meat), shredded Parmesan and a very special "secret sauce." I'm curious as to what this sauce tastes like. Wow! Nice presentation! These are good! I love that sauce! There's a good crowd in here (20 people). Only one worker (bartender and server). She's damn good at what she does! For my next drink, I'm having a Connecticut Cosmo. This is made with Litchfield Vodka, Wild Moon Cranberry, Triple Sec and lime juice. This vodka is the Gold Medal Winner 2018 & 2019 at the New York International Spirits Competition. Silver Medal Winner at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition! Our Gluten-Free Batchers' Vodka is distilled from luscious corn grown during the beautiful summer months in Somers, CT. We distill 4 ¾ times and use a gravity-fed charcoal filter that takes 12 hours to filter 100 gallons. The longer the vodka sits on the charcoal, the more impurities are removed, which creates an incredibly smooth taste. Bottled at 80 proof. It is impeccably clean, slightly sweet, velvety smooth mouthfeel and sweet buttery overtones. It's smooth with a warm finish with subtle notes of sweet ripe corn at the end. I actually sat down next to the owner of the Distillery at a wine pairing dinner at Flemings in West Hartford about 7-8 years ago. This looks nice! Wow! This has great flavor! For my next item, I'm having the Rigatoni Matinara. Rigatoni is a large, tube-shaped pasta with ridges on the outside and straight-cut ends. Marinara sauce is a tomato sauce usually made with tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and onions. I don't eat pasta all that often. This will serve as my appetizer before I hit the main course. This is a BIG portion! It is very good! For my entree I'm having the Pan Seared Salmon which is "hand cut" salmon with zesty orange glaze served over mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables (broccoli). Add LOTS of crushed red pepper. Nod that's "LOTS." This is spicy! My kinda spicy! The plate is nice and hot! I like the presentation. This tastes great! What a great meal here!

Never have I ever paid for bread in a restaurant and we were asked if we wanted bread - no mention of we had to pay extra for it. Side salads are an extra charge too. If you get a chicken meal expect it to have a very charred taste to it. We found the food to be middle of the road and not very big portions considering we usually take food home from other places. There was a birthday party going on in the restaurant, not in a separate room. Not that it bothered us, but it was extremely loud in there and it seemed to bother the table next to us. Don't expect a quiet dinner in this place. Getting the attention of the waitress was impossible. I had to stand at the bar and wait to pay our bill. The party had the entrance blocked because they were filming and we had to exit through a side entrance, which didn't bother us, but not the best from a safety point of view. Do we recommend the place - no. Will we go back - no.

Kens is a small breakfast place in glastonbury, and there always seems to be a line out the door (for a good reason). Once inside tho, the waitresses and busboys are always super friendly. I love that the waitresses always stop by for a quick chat when they see you. The eggs benedict is super amazing here. Actually everything is but thats my fav. French toast super amazing too, especially when they have the egg nog French toast on special. They always have two flavored coffee options which i love. And the home fries are always well seasoned and crispy on the outside and oft in the middle. The only downside really to kens is the wait which sometimes goes out the door. They don't take reservations and they don't have a sign in, so it kinda sucks for someone like me with Rheumatoid arthritis because I cant stand for very long, so we cant go on the weekends. But we went twice during the week this week and the wait was very short. So if you want a great breakfast at a decent price, nice wait staff, and you're near glastonbury, Kens is a place to check out for sure!

We had Sue handle all of our orders and she was more than accommodating for our group of almost a dozen people. Separate checks, a magnitude of questions, and lots of repeated statements from us and her. She has a patience of a saint and such a friendly demeanor. I love the atmosphere and the menu was designed by Sue herself, so we were able to get the best recommendations. Lots of omelets, French toasts, wraps, etc. All the food was amazing, but a common complaint I heard from the group was that the sandwiches were a bit dry or needed a sauce to push it to great. Definitely check this out. Be prepared for a wait and a deliciously good time.

They have some cute holiday decor, and on each table they have a bottle of wine. The waitress who came to serve me appeared very limited in English. I told her I'd like a slice of the Bread Pudding, and I pointed to it in the menu. She told me "no" as she pointed back to it using her pen. Ok. That's disappointing. I noticed they make fresh juice from strawberries, mango and other fruits. I told her I'd like the strawberry juice. Again she pointed to it and said "no". Why did I come here, everything is "no"? I told her I'll have the mango juice. She finally said "ok". She asked me if I want my juice with aqua or with leche. I told her aqua. Wouldn't it be a smoothie if it was with milk? I also wondered what kind of response I'd get if I asked for the flan. "No" is the answer to that! Shortly after, I heard the blender running. My juice was delivered to me. It came in a large beer mug, and was filled to the brim. This was so tasty and truly mango! I finished my juice and waited forever for the bill. It wasn't that busy there were two other patrons. I asked for the bill, both of the waitresses passed by me at least ten times before I finally got the bill. While the juice was very tasty, they had nothing else that I was interested in, while all of these things are in the menu. The checkout process was very slow. I will not be stopping by Toby's again.

I was expecting more of a take out vibe, but that was not the case. I ordered the butifarra sandwich (I think they only have sandwiches on the weekend? Not sure). I honestly wish I got asada for meat because I am not the biggest pork fan, but everything else on the sandwich made it come together! They gave me a green sauce that she told me to put on the sandwich and she wasn't wrong!! It was DELICIOUS, I wish i had 5 more cups of it! The Portuguese roll was also so soft and fresh. It was great. The staff was all very friendly! There was an older man there who greeted me and waved me over once my food was done (didn't take longer than 10 minutes from ordering to me going out the door). Was it Toby?! Maybe! I can't wait to come back and try the Lomo and Ceviche!

Having time to kill, and finding myself dismayed at the number of breakfast spots closed on Monday,…read moreI found myself at a place I've long considered trying: the Makris Diner. I arrived just after 7:00 AM, finding only a few other customers. Taking my seat at the counter, and noticing the "best of 2025" certificate, coffee was immediately served; and, my order was promptly taken. My choice was the big breakfast two, which would prove to be well named. Well within ten minutes, I was served three eggs, properly prepared, over easy, four very mild, frankly nearly tasteless, breakfast sausage links, a good portion of browned, but as far as I could tell, unseasoned, hashbrowns that were on the dry side (yes, ketchup was required) and finally, two slices of thick French toast, generously splattered with powdered sugar (quite tasty, I must say). In short, this meal read like a stock chart on a volatile day; peaks and valleys. The cup of coffee was acceptable, doing nothing to add or detract from the meal. At just over, twenty two bucks, before tip, the portion couldn't be faulted; but, the quality could have been better. The Makris has been there as long as I can remember; but in all my life, this is only my second visit. The first was a late night stop for a cup of coffee way back when teenagers actually ventured outside to engage in social activities; and, today, it looked much as it did back then. It was clean, comforatable and very much appealing to my sense of nostalgia. So too, I believe, that could be said of the other patrons, all of whom I expected to refer to my 58 year old self as "kid" if the need to speak to me had arisen.

I stopped in before work for breakfast recently. The menu seemed limited for a diner. I chose a…read morelunch item I hadn't had too often. I really enjoyed the quick service, freshness and flavor I experienced. But the downfall was absolutely no hot water in the rest rooms. Not a drop. I am freezing now.
