Tripi was on my list of places to visit for what seemed liked an eternity. I finally made it a priority to visit! It's one of Chef Anthony Zappola's restaurants. I love his food concepts in the Van Aken District, so my instant love for Tripi wasn't much of a surprise. I also ran into my friend who was eating at Tripi in the dining room. She was also enjoying her experience! We talked for a few minutes about how cool this place is! It's an aesthetically pleasing deli with exposed brick walls and family portraits. It very much feels like entering a modern deli in a big city. I haven't seen another one quite like it in CLE. At the front of the deli you'll discover a stand with various Italian delicacies like pizzelles, pastas, and other pantry favorites. Also, you'll see fridges with delicious looking desserts and vino (on average $12-16 a bottle). The back of the store has a very spacious dining room, select your own table or high top. Deli part is up front with options like pizza, subs, and pepperoni rolls. I ordered Papa Tony sub to go. It has a variety of salamis, capicola, provolone, lettuce, and tomato. The sub was already premade in the case, and I had an option to add on available ingredients. I felt like $14 was a very fair deal. Meat tasted refined and it has just the right amount of spice. I very much enjoyed this sub. I regret not trying dessert! Special note about the chocolate at this store. I have been looking for authentic Italian chocolate for a while at Italian stores, coming up empty. I tried East and West prominent family owned stores. All local stores carry popular brands that can be found anywhere. Here I found chocolates with different flavors that seemed very authentic. I'll be back to buy this chocolate! It was $18. This review wouldn't be complete without noting the friendliness of the employees. One of them quickly realized it's my first visit giving me a quick rundown of the menu and the store layout. I really appreciated this intro and super friendly demeanor. We also had a nice chat about how all the businesses in the area are a little community supportive of each other. I just love that! If you're in the area looking for good eats, stop by at Tripi! I think that you'll love it as much as I did!

Came here for a weekday lunch with my wife...needed to try some of those sandwiches everyone's been raving about! Was not busy when we walked in, so service was quick and efficient. We ordered two sammies and a bag of homemade potato chips. They brought us the meal while we sat in the adjoining dining room. The Tuscan turkey sandwich was served on fresh focaccia bread and topped with pesto mayo, mozzarella and arugaula...it was light but very tasty with the zesty mayo countered by the peppery lettuce. The chicken parm sub was easily shareable and of course served hot with a bright tomato sauce and melted provolone cheese. The homemade rosemary potato chips really hit the spot for a salty bite in-between digging into the sandwiches. Glad we finally had the time to pop in and give them a go. Will not be our last time there!

Absolutely incredible sandwich and cheesecake. Plus it's priced very fairly bc the sandwiches are enough to split and loaded full. The service was fast and super friendly. The food feels super homey too!

What a cute spot! Tripi has a small, reasonably priced menu, authentic Italian goods for sale (pasta, sweets, wine), and ample seating. The staff were SO sweet and friendly. We tried their famous Papa Tony -- the filling of the sandwich was delicious but the bread was a bit dry. We also tried the pasta dinner; the pasta was only ok but the meatballs were delicious. Overall, a solid spot to grab a quick, casual bite!

    Italian sandwich was killer!

I saw the Italian sandwich on Insta featured in 'Best Sandwiches in Cleveland'. The list is no lie. I was so excited to find Tripi open around dinnertime so we popped in. The wedding soup was very good. We also shared a pepperoni roll and it was nice and stuffed. The crown jewel was the Italian sandwich. Peppers, muffulata, AND giardinera??! Yes please. The bread was fresh and delicious- I was pleased to find out they bake it themselves! Quality meats and cheeses and perfectly constructed. The staff was super friendly and walked us through our options before we ordered. It's not a huge menu- which I love. That tells me they do a handful of foods and they do them well. Prices were on par with similar shops. I don't normally directly compare small businesses, but there are clear reasons why I will likely visit Tripi over another popular sandwich shop in close proximity: 1) the hours 2) the availability 3) the dining room Can't wait to visit again and try more deliciousness. The pizza looked and smelled so good.

Tripi Italian is now OPEN as of Thursday, 22 June 2023. The owner also owns Lox, Stock, and Brisket and the Rice Shop. SOLD OUT -- I arrived on a Friday afternoon at 2pm, a day after their grand opening, to find them sadly closed. I will try again another day but from a customer service perspective, at least they left a note on their front door about being sold out for the day. I came back the next day, on Saturday, 24 June and they were open. They opened at 11:30am and I arrived after 12:00noon. They got busy as I left around 12:40pm. FOOD (3.5/5) -- They have sandwiches and pasta dinners for $11. They also sell a salami sandwich for $13. There are soft drinks (soda), juices, and water bottles in a fridge for sale as well. Water is $1 for a bottle. I ordered the Italian sausage sandwich ($11) without peppers and without onions. The sausage was slightly spicy which I loved. The Italian sausage sandwich came with mozzarella cheese and a tomato sauce. I don't like eating cheese but the mozzarella was good. I didn't get sauce in my sandwich but later on, I asked someone to get me sauce on the side which made the sandwich taste a bit better because the BREAD was so hard. I could hardly eat the while sausage sandwich because the bread was almost rock hard. VIBE -- This is a casual Italian restaurant that feels more like a cafe. I love the colourful photo frames on the wall too. Overall, if you love pasta and sandwiches then come and try this new restaurant. **** - 72/150 total reviews in 2023 - 623 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 23 June 2023 (edited on 24 June 2023)

Great sandwich, quick and very friendly! Plenty of places to sit and eat as well. Very nice seating area. Clean as well.

The Italian sandwich's here hit the spot. Having spent the last 3 decades of my life in Brooklyn I miss the small Italian sand which shops that were no frills. Tripi provides that and more. I got the eggplant parm sandwich and holy ish, it was good. I was skeptical about there tomato sauce as anyone would be but THE TOMATO SAUCE IS THE BOMB. The whole sandwich hit home and for $10 on a hero semolina contraption it was worth every penny. Service was super friendly and I def suggest you going. The side salad was also a light treat! THIS PLACE HITS HOME, AMAAZINNNGGG!!

Coming into the store there was a cute counter by the window if you did decide to sit inside and eat. We came all the way from Kent for the pizza and wanted to try a slice before we left for home so my boyfriend ate a slice in the parking lot really quick. An employee (possibly the owner) came out with napkins and offered us to sit inside. We declined as we had to leave but the man graciously went inside and brought us out cold water bottles for our drive home! It was such a thoughtful gesture. Now onto the pizza. It was delicious! We ordered a regular pepperoni pizza and the white Neapolitan style pizza. It wouldn't let me add pineapple to my pizza online, which was fine because it didn't need it, the pizza was so good! My boyfriend loved his pepperoni pizza and I also enjoyed my Neapolitan style white pizza. It had a great garlicky flavor and was crispy on the crust. Will definitely be back to try the margarita pizza next! So if you're looking for a great pizza with hospitality I recommend coming to Joe De's!

My daughter said "Dad, this area is heavily populated with people from Eastern Bloc countries," to which I responded "If they like their pizza sweet, so be it. But I certainly don't." Indeed, Napoleon was an Italian dude who was born in France. His conquering skills were excellent, until his greed resulted in the deaths of thousands of soldiers who froze to death. All of that to say, I might've named this place Napoli's Pizza (since Napoli is the birthplace of the pizza we know today). Stepping inside, this religious experience continues when, right as you ready yourself to order, you watch the pizza barista pull a hot, fresh pie directly from the oven. You can see instantly deduce the pizza is perfectly cooked--the cheese is melted evenly, the smell of the tomato sauce lingers in the air, the crust has just the right bend--you look the cashier in the eye and declare that a slice of that fresh-out-of-the-oven pizza pie is exactly what you want. Now imagine the horror as the cashier takes that fresh slice of pizza, perfect as Michelangelo's David, and PUTS IT BACK IN THE OVEN. Horrified, you can do nothing but watch as your already amazing slice of pizza is burnt to a crisp. Served to you five minutes later, your wonderfully floppy New York slice now has the consistency of a saltine cracker. It has been charred to the point of burying the cheese and sauce--replaced by the flavor of charcoal. You might think this is an indulgent (and even pretentious) way to simply say "the pizza was overcooked," but I believe understanding the promise of this product is essential to understanding the pain of its disappointment. The food I ordered the anchovy margherita pizza and it was a solid 9.5/10. Easily one of the closest pizzas I've had in the U.S. to the authentic Roman-style pizzas I remember. The only minor criticism -- and honestly not really their fault -- was that the anchovies tasted slightly canned, giving a bit more fishiness than the fresh anchovies commonly used in Italy. The service One of the owners, Annie, felt like the Italian nonna welcoming you into her home. Warm, thoughtful, conversational and constantly making sure everyone was taken care of.
