Husband & I are a couple of Aussies living in Venice Beach. We'd been desperate to get out of the city for a while, so we packed the car & our little rescue-mutt & headed away into the wilderness for our 18th anniversary. The Miner's Cabin offered a perfect, romantic, rustic retreat for us. You should think of your stay there as, "glamping". The cosy, one-room-loft-bedroom cabin is clean and basic, the structure itself, utterly charming. The bathroom is but a toilet, the entire room the shower cubicle & it's VERY clean, but most bathing happened in the river, shh, I'm not gonna lie. The cabin's heart is the pretty balcony that looks out over the crystal-clear river, where we spent a lot of our time relaxing and cooking. The kitchen is only a small bar fridge (though they do provide a large ice chest with ample space - just don't forget to buy ice), a sink, a microwave, toaster oven & an electric frying pan. Being outdoors folks though & a cook, we came prepared. I brought a portable gas burner which made the balcony a charming spot to fry up the beautiful, Steelhead Trout I was catching (FANTASTIC fishing). We ate meals out there too, to the majestic view of the river, the mountains & the pines, immediately before us. I also brought my cast iron dutch oven & used the wonderful, functional fire pit/ BBQ down on the river rock patio to roast vegetables in the fire. If you are wise about when to open and close windows at appropriate parts of the day, the Miner's Cabin stays wonderfully cool, even in the hottest of summer days as we experienced at around 103F. I think we used the swamp cooler once for an hour out of curiosity for what it may do. At night, the incredibly comfortable loft bed was heaven. We'd open up the pretty gable windows and enjoy the cool, evening breeze and sound of the lively river. The big house next door, also owned by Heidi, had a large family group staying there. We'd only see them sometimes when we'd use the driveway which is shared. Even with their nearby presence, the cabin felt very secluded. Occasionally folks would float by down the river and you'd share a wave or smile. You can hear the highway which is quite incongruous as you seem so far away from civilization. The river water is incredible. Our dog's coat and our hair and skin have never felt so good from lolling about in the water. Heidi has very detailed instructions and information available on the website and in the email package. Be sure to read them so you know exactly what you're in for and any additional costs like a dog fee etc. All the info you need is there. Heidi is very communicative. If you want the kind of no-frills, communing with nature experience we were after, this place is for YOU! read more

We had a truly wonderful time on the Trinity River --beautiful setting, fun kayaking, lovely dinners on the deck. Unfortunately, our experience of Adventure Inn after we left was extremely unpleasant. We probably should have known. The full paged 8pt typed list of what we should clean, the 3.5% surcharge for using a credit card, the long list of cleaning duties that they don't perform and the charges incurred if they do, should have tipped us off. But nothing could have adequately prepared us for the owner's scathing email about how we left the cabin. Reading this you can imagine that there are people who rent vacation cabins and trash them. It happens all the time, but it's not the case here. We have rented many homes, together and separately, three psychotherapists, a social worker and our 4 well-behaved kids. We stripped the beds and put the sheets next to the washer. With the limited cleaning equipment available (and given the owner's passion for cleaning, leaving some dishwasher detergent, some dish soap, a new scrubby sponge and a wet mop would have been a thoughtful idea) we washed the counters, the stovetop and the table and swept all the rooms with a broom (which, along with a dust "Swifter" without any covers, constituted the entire cleaning arsenal available to us). Heidi, the owner, alleged that the kitchen and dinning room were "Thick with dirt". We rented the cabin for three nights, and if it was given to us in antiseptic condition, one would have to wonder what "Thick with dirt" meant. She alleged that the stovetop was "caked with blackberry goo"--we had cleaned the stove and the counter with the sponge provided, and yes, we did make a blackberry pie and pancakes with the local berries we had picked. Had we known that a missed blackberry would be the basis for a $45 cleaning surcharge and a venomous email, we would have not bothered and gone to IHOP. The owners allege it took 13+man hours to clean the cabin we used for 3 nights. It is clear that the owners of "Alpen Glow" treasure their cabin. They should, it's a beautiful spot. They should not rent it out; it is too emotionally taxing for them. They decided to levy a $45 cleaning charge in addition to the $85 cleaning fee that they customarily charge. My advice is to rent a cabin elsewhere and see if you can get on Adventure Inn's cleaning crew and make $130 for wiping down the counters and wet mopping the floors. It's a beautiful area, and with an income stream like that, lucrative as well. read more

We had a great time at Steph and Heidi's biggest cabin on the property - the "Alpen Glow". It is an incredibly wonderful place, and Steph and Heidi really made an effort to make us happy here. I brought a group of classical musicians for the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, and we were able to practice outdoors on their river deck as well as in the spacious living room. I'll try to post some videos of our string quartet on youtube... go look for them :) Hands down, I would recommend this place. I think yelp filters out all the positive reviews they used to have on this site.... read more

We stayed in the Carriage House. Hosts Steph and Heidi were the best. They responded quickly to my reservation inquiry and were in every way friendly and helpful during our stay. The historic cabin was clean, comfortable and inviting. It was evident that our hosts take pride in this beautiful place. Our dogs were welcomed, but nowhere was there any evidence of previous pets. We sat on the breezeway and watched the Trinity River roll by! We will stay again in the very near future. read more

Adventure Inn is a fantastic location for a family reunion or fishing trip. Heidi and Steph are passionate about making sure their guests have a great experience. The Alpen Glow cabin was a huge hit for our 8 man fishing group. We'll be back again and again. I would not even want to give 1 star for Sow's Ear cabin at Trinity River Adventure Cabins. I contacted them through VRBO for 1night stay at cabin and got written+verbal confirmations about the same. My card details were shared for reservations+deposit and we get a totally unethical email from Steph and Heidi just earlier day of our reservation saying they are cancelling our reservation just because they chose to give it out to another party opting for longer stay! This is highly unprofessional and if they preferred not taking one night reservations, Steph or Heidi should have informed us earlier itself when we contacted them! We have emails confirming 1night accommodations and payment options signed by them. This was totally unfair and this experience ruined our plans for long weekend. I can just hope, any future residents interested in reserving this property do not go through such experience! read more

I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. As with other guests, we unfortunately dealt with unethical and rude behavior with respect to our bookings. I HIGHLY recommend staying elsewhere in the area. There are many options in Lewiston that are cleaner and managed by hosts with a much more friendly attitude. Check out the Indian Creek Lodge for a MUCH better experience. Also...we've never brought a dog on that trip. read more

"All Were Had By A Good Time" My two retired brothers and I do an annual "Fishin'" trip, to catch up on Family doings, drown a few innocent worms and generally enjoy each other's company. This past May we decided to sample the wild and scenic Trinity River area, and, were so very lucky to happen upon The Sow's Ear for our annual get-together. Hosts Steph and Heidi have set this home up to be warm and welcoming, with a lovely screened front porch from which to enjoy the scenery and ever-present gentle song of the Trinity River. We all slept well in the three comfortable bedrooms, and enjoyed lots of meals together in the nicely appointed kitchen and dining area. Each morning we awoke to bird song from quail, flickers, stellar's jays, ospreys, red tale hawks and ravens, with lots of local deer grazing peacefully through the wooded property. Weaverville is just up the road with full-service supermarkets and plenty of restaurant options. We were happy and relieved that this summers' horrific Carr Fire was halted about two miles east of the Bucktail area, leaving this precious Trinity River watercourse undamaged. If you are looking for some delicious peace and quiet in a wild and scenic northern California river setting, look no further than Steph and Heidi's "Sow's Ear". read more

If you love steelhead fishing, this is the place to stay on the Trinity river. Four close friends, who have been fishing for years together, enjoyed ourselves and relaxed at this idyllic spot. The view from the back deck is incredible--not 50 yards away you can watch fish rising. Alpenglow is cozy, spacious, and well-maintained. You will find everything you need in the cabin: washer dryer, mud room for gear, well appointed kitchen, dining room table for dinners, TV w/Satellite to watch games, etc. Did I mention the fishing? The four of us caught average of 2 steelhead per day and I caught a sea run brown trout that was the excitement of the trip. Most anglers have to head to Argentina to catch sea run brown trout, but I learned the Trinity is the only river on the U.S. West coast that gets a run of these magnificent fish. read more

We (2 adults and 2 kids age 4 and 7) had a wonderful stay on Trinity river - Lewston area is gorgeous, kids spent more time in water than we wanted them to, and we enjoyed road biking on very scenic routes where only few cars pass in an hour. Our hosts Steph and Heidi were very friendly and helpful, offered us that extra hospitality that makes you feel like a local - freshly caught fish, walks with their dogs, hammock for our kids, tips on hiking and getting around, etc. The house Sow's Ear meets all your needs and has a good feel to it. There is no dishwasher - the only downside we noticed ( we were staying with friends and it was hard to do the dishes after 8 people, and we wasted so much water). It might be Ok for smaller groups though. Yes, you need to do some cleaning when leaving, but it's partial (no bathrooms or beds), so the cleaning fee sounds fair, just pay attention to it. We started considering going back there for another week this summer right after we got back home - August looks especially tempting with abundance of blackberries everywhere you step. And this time we might do the rafting trip - the river is very safe yet fun for all ages. We had tubesters for our daughters, and they worked great. read more

Really disappointing. Not clean. Dog dander. Lock on door intermittently jammed and left us locked outside. Telephone non-functioning (battery removed) and no wireless service. Couldn't communicate with outside world in an emergency. No contact with owners at all. Uncomfortable bed with egg crate. Left early and ate the cost. Would never recommend. read more

We stayed at the Miners Cabin with our two dogs. It was exactly how described and very private and scenic. We had a wonderful time. Heidi and Steph are incredibly accommodating and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. We wanted to go on a guided fishing trip but was at a loss as to what to do with our dogs. Would you believe they offered to dog sit? We were floored. They had never met us or our dogs. I cannot express enough how amazing they are. The definition of graciousness. My sisters and I go on an annual hiking trip to different national parks and wilderness areas in the U.S. This year we chose the Trinity Alps Wilderness and I was delighted to find Heidi and Steph's rental place in the area. Our hosts were wonderful! Before we even arrived Heidi was always in communication with me via email and text to make sure we knew where we were going. We arrived to find a basket of s'more fixings and a note to come down and join our hosts by the riverside fire (how sweet is that?!)... and our entire stay was just wonderful. Though we were active and didn't really stick around the cabin, it was a cute, clean little space for us to call home at the end of each day. We went on a river kayak trip with Heidi and Steph one of the days we were there and had a great time... they're wonderful instructors and have tons of fun stories to share from their amazing lives... what great people! The Fly Fisher's Club of Orange County (Southern California) brought in 10 fly fishers to fish steelhead on the Trinity River. We stayed at the Trinity River Adventure Inn. The accommodations were spread out but special. We came together every morning and evening for really well prepared and delicious food. We could see that no corners were cut in the food that was presented to us nor was anything lacking in the food preparation. Heide and Steph really did go the "extra mile" to make sure we enjoyed our stay with them. All the facilities were very clean and we were treated as friends and not just clients. They made our group feel very welcome. read more

Wow, what a great time we had up here. The house we rented was fabulous. Nothing fancy, but super comfortable and spacious, clean and well maintained. The wrap around deck was so peaceful in the mornings and evenings and the 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house was just what the doctor ordered. Relaxing, fully equipped, and kept everyone happy (and keeping 3 kids from ages 12-4 happy isn't an easy feat). We spent our days riding bikes, fishing both the river (across the street) and the lake (a short drive away), kayaking and paddle boarding. The weather was warm and delightful during the day and crisp and cool at night... perfect hot tub weather under the stars. The stars really were spectacular. We saw fish spawning and jumping, hawks flying, and deer grazing. You just have to check this out. We planned to just spend a couple of days and changed our reservations for the entire week, it was that good! Local shops are fun to check out, too. Definitely go explore the area and enjoy your home away from home! read more

My fiance' and I had the pleasure of staying at Trinity River Adventure Inn for a night this last month and our time there was definitely worth a review we want to share. The drive to Adventure Inn was a treat in and of itself. The beauty of nature was at every turn on that road and we felt like we were leaving all the hustle and bustle behind before we even arrived. Heidi and Steph, the proud owners, greeted us with smiles and a tour of the surrounding area. They showed us several of the cabins before settling us in to Alpen Glow. Each cabin had its own unique charm with details that made you feel like you were not only on a wonderful adventure but also comfy and pampered at the same time. Alpen Glow was spacious with its full size dining table, welcoming fireplace, relaxing couches, beautiful deck to take in the sun or stare at the river, and a soothing jetted tub. These owners have put their heart and soul into making this a sanctuary for the rest of us to retreat to. Although our respective travels have taken us to many bed and breakfasts along our way, this one made us feel like welcomed guests from the minute we arrived.
