    Cooling off at Upper Falls
    Steph H.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A short but sweet hike to some pretty little pools and waterfalls. This visit was from early summer of 2021. It is indeed a very short paved trail to the initial pool and falls, but we decided to head up to the Upper Falls, which turned out to be a pretty steep and slippery climb, so be very careful. It was worth it, though, as we found a deserted little pool looking down at a lower larger pool, and it was a very pleasant spot to go wading on a hot day. Some other people were coming up as we were going down, so we were glad to have had the place to ourselves.

A quick simple stroll to a nice shaded area with a waterfall view. Perfect for a small family with children and pets as that is exactly what we walked up to. This is not a difficult walk and definitely worth a visit for little to no effort. Cheers to a nice day in good weather and good company.

So beautiful. Visited in mid November during our family vacation, it was so cold but breathtaking. The walk was short but we stayed quite awhile for the waterfalls and building some snowman.

REVIEW #500 Crystal Creek Falls (CCF) is one of four waterfalls at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, and is the easiest to get to. With less than a 1/3-mile from the parking lot, off of Crystal Creek Rd, you should be able to get there in no time at all. Here's a quick guide: Directions "From Highway 299 west, follow Crystal Creek road for 2 miles until you see the rehabilitated quarry area on your left."* You can also put these coordinates into your navigation app 40.650643,-122.668759 I tested it and this worked with Waze, fwiw Parking Small dirt lot that was empty when we arrived at 9 a.m., but quickly filled up as we left around noon. Amenities There's actually a small but clean restroom in aforementioned parking lot! Score! Trails The trail to get to the lower falls is flat, wide and easy. If you want to get down to the fall itself the trail gets a little steep but nothing too crazy. However, if you want to go see the second set of falls behind that one then be prepared. Those trails are kinda officially unofficial, if you get my drift. Very sketchy, but worth the effort! Just don't bring the kids for this portion. Scenery I think my pics speak for themselves. You'll get a great view of a raging waterfall even in the middle of summer. You can also wade around in the water surrounding it, but be aware it's fricking freezing even in July! It's also really cool to get that close to falls and feel their power as you try to swim against the current in vain. As I mentioned before the second waterfall in the rear is much, much cooler. Is this the greatest waterfall ever? No. But considering what you get for the minimal effort you exert getting to it―it's worth every calorie! Minimal effort for a huge payoff is always a big win in the world of Mother Nature! *Courtesy of Whiskeytown NPS website (https://www.nps.gov/whis/index.htm)

Beautiful and accessible for disable. Bring a friend and enjoy a nice relaxing walk. The falls are truly amazing as is the pool below them.

I suppose perfect swim weather. Other water sports I'm sure bring in many from afar. Nature lovers and people who like to travel in RVs or travel trailers I think would love this place. Probably few better places for camping. Due to the shape of the lake there is lots of shore and very few people using it. I think its an underrated lake but I still prefer Lake Tahoe - and at about the same distance for me from home I probably would never come to this lake as a destination. There is something about the trees or the air in Lake Tahoe that lures me in more like a fly to a bug zapper... and I'm not alone - its popularity is shown by the packed beaches. I can compare this place only to Lake Tahoe and another thing that I love about LT is how it (or at least South Lake Tahoe) is the perfect marriage of nature and city. There are bars and steak houses and music venues and other thing you could imagine that a decent city has. Mount Shasta seems to just be nature. If your driving long distances I think its worth a stop. Take an hour. Stretch your legs - get in your 10,000 steps even when you are on the road.

She wasn't pushy at all and didn't upsell me anything - just gave me all the tips and info. We decided on a tandem snowmobile for an hour with a guide. We arrived 20 minutes late but she was so professional - she shortened and made the check in process so easy. There was a cabin with fire where you can change since Deer Mountain was quite cold and was snowing that day desolate the snow drought. She was mega attentive and taught us everything and told us exactly where we were going. She took couple of pictures for us and explained what we'll see had it not been so foggy. On the way back when we stopped at a viewpoint my boyfriend accidentally accelerated and we toppled right where the cliff started - Michele rushed over and helped us up and we genuinely concerned for our well being.
