Super great place to visit, especially in the summer when it's hot. You park in the lot at the trailhead and it's a short walk down to the Falls. The Falls are located at the end of the trail, and from there it's a very short clamber down to the Falls themselves. The Falls fall into a reasonably sized pond that is shallow and great for wading in the cool waters during a hot day. It's shallow enough so you can bring a folding patio chair into the water. I recommend the Crystal Creek Falls. read more

It is a Beautiful small waterfall up by Crystal Creek. It was a boys camp and really helped a lot of troubled boys.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A short but sweet hike to some pretty little pools and waterfalls. This visit was from early summer of 2021. It is indeed a very short paved trail to the initial pool and falls, but we decided to head up to the Upper Falls, which turned out to be a pretty steep and slippery climb, so be very careful. It was worth it, though, as we found a deserted little pool looking down at a lower larger pool, and it was a very pleasant spot to go wading on a hot day. Some other people were coming up as we were going down, so we were glad to have had the place to ourselves. read more

A quick simple stroll to a nice shaded area with a waterfall view. Perfect for a small family with children and pets as that is exactly what we walked up to. Super accessible waterfall! Came here after hiking to the Whiskeytown Falls, and was super happy that this one was so easy to get to. We paid the $25 fee for the parking pass online earlier that also covered this route. The parking lot is very close to the split off from Whiskeytown Falls, and the walk to the waterfall is entirely paved. There's a little off trail route to get closer to the waterfall on the side that's well worth it. There was only one other car here on a Friday afternoon, so parking was super easy. Definitely add this one to your list of waterfalls to check out if you're in the area! read more

Stopped by here after the Whiskeytown Falls hike. This is a 0.25 mi walk from the parking lot. Good for families with little kids, elderly grandparents, or anyone with difficulties walking. The road is paved to get to the falls. You can get into the water. It was quite crowded so we skipped wading in. Pretty large area for the falls. Two small parking lots and a bathroom in the lot. Just down the road from Whiskeytown Falls. read more

REVIEW #500 Crystal Creek Falls (CCF) is one of four waterfalls at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, and is the easiest to get to. With less than a 1/3-mile from the parking lot, off of Crystal Creek Rd, you should be able to get there in no time at all. Here's a quick guide: Directions "From Highway 299 west, follow Crystal Creek road for 2 miles until you see the rehabilitated quarry area on your left."* You can also put these coordinates into your navigation app 40.650643,-122.668759 I tested it and this worked with Waze, fwiw Parking Small dirt lot that was empty when we arrived at 9 a.m., but quickly filled up as we left around noon. Amenities There's actually a small but clean restroom in aforementioned parking lot! Score! Trails The trail to get to the lower falls is flat, wide and easy. If you want to get down to the fall itself the trail gets a little steep but nothing too crazy. However, if you want to go see the second set of falls behind that one then be prepared. Those trails are kinda officially unofficial, if you get my drift. Very sketchy, but worth the effort! Just don't bring the kids for this portion. Scenery I think my pics speak for themselves. You'll get a great view of a raging waterfall even in the middle of summer. You can also wade around in the water surrounding it, but be aware it's fricking freezing even in July! It's also really cool to get that close to falls and feel their power as you try to swim against the current in vain. As I mentioned before the second waterfall in the rear is much, much cooler. Is this the greatest waterfall ever? No. But considering what you get for the minimal effort you exert getting to it―it's worth every calorie! This waterfall is located in Whiskeytown Lake National Recreation Area off highway 299. It's in the Crystal Creek area. The signage in this area is not all that clear cut. The only real sign is the sign that says Crystal Creek from the highway. When you turn in, go past the first parking lot and the second parking lot is where this waterfall can be found. Something I learned on this hike - at the parking lot, you will see an unpaved one lane road, if you drive up that, there is another parking lot with bathrooms! If you plan on picnicking, as in have a cooler and BBQ at the falls, you might want to park there since it will be easier to carry stuff. The hike is really short and easy. It is a mostly flat trail. The path is completely paved and wheelchair accessible. If you want to go down and upclose to the waterfall, then it is not wheelchair friendly. The climb down has many rocks and is somewhat steep. It is the only waterfall of the 4 main ones found in this area that is wheelchair accessible. The waterfall itself is beautiful and pretty big. I saw someone bring their dog and they were throwing a ball into the water and the dog kept jumping in to get it. I'm pretty sure in the summer people will go swimming in it. The water in February was cold and crystal clear. There are lots of rocks where you can sit on to eat some snacks, or you can go to the picnic tables that are located near the waterfall. There are also BBQ pits. The hike itself is about .5 miles roundtrip. If you want to participate in the Hike the Waterfalls program, there is a metal plaque at the waterfall that you can rub onto paper. After you collect all the markers from the 4 waterfalls, you can get a prize at the visitor center. Online, it said a bandanna, but the lady at the visitor center did not specify - she just said different things. There is a day use fee of $5. I didn't see the boxes to collect money here, but I saw them at different areas of Whiskeytown Lake. If you have an interagency annual pass like me, you don't have to worry about getting a day permit - you would just hang your pass on the mirror. read more

Crystal Creek Falls in Whiskeytown California is not really a Falls at all , but is a series of cataracts . It is misnamed , probably more for attracting tourists . Quite simply, in a Falls the water really Falls, not sliding over rocks but freely falling through the air . So if you're attracted by the advertising to what is known as a very high Falls , you will be disappointed . It is still a very enjoyable place to visit , so long as you're not looking for a record waterfall . read more

Beautiful spot here and very serene!! There were a couple of people leaving as we were walking to the fall. It was about Sunday late afternoon. Easy to get down to the pool of the water fall. The walk from the parking lot is not far at all. Went during September, late September. The water was pretty cold!! After a minute, i needed to step out of the pool. A couple people had left behind items like a coca cola can on a rock - not cool! just please remember to pick up after yourselves! Pack out what you pack in. read more

Excellent gem that never seems to be crowded when I go. It is a easy hike and handicap accessible so that makes it great especially for families that are lookng for some sightseeing. There are still a few trails you can do if you are up for more adventure, some people hike up to the top of the waterfall and you can do small steep hike down and put your feet in the cold cold water. One of my favorite places to go close to Redding. It's only about a 20 minute drive. Easy hike up to the falls, but to get directly into the water requires delicate walking navigation as there is a bit of a steep slope. Beautiful falls, very refreshing when Redding is 110 degrees outside. The only downfall would be that it does not seem to be patrolled and there have been car break ins, so do not leave anything valuable in your car. Otherwise a great place to spend time outdoors! read more

Lovely falls and easy to hike to and hang around an hour or two for photo ops, dipping, and even some rock climbing to get to the top of the waterfall. The only drawback is when I happened to search it up online, I found out it's not a natural waterfall, it's man made. read more
