A beautiful lake and surrounding area. Very clean and green. Boat docks and fishing I suppose are highlights. I visited while driving through on a very warm day. I suppose perfect swim weather. Other water sports I'm sure bring in many from afar. Nature lovers and people who like to travel in RVs or travel trailers I think would love this place. Probably few better places for camping. Due to the shape of the lake there is lots of shore and very few people using it. I think its an underrated lake but I still prefer Lake Tahoe - and at about the same distance for me from home I probably would never come to this lake as a destination. There is something about the trees or the air in Lake Tahoe that lures me in more like a fly to a bug zapper... and I'm not alone - its popularity is shown by the packed beaches. I can compare this place only to Lake Tahoe and another thing that I love about LT is how it (or at least South Lake Tahoe) is the perfect marriage of nature and city. There are bars and steak houses and music venues and other thing you could imagine that a decent city has. Mount Shasta seems to just be nature. If your driving long distances I think its worth a stop. Take an hour. Stretch your legs - get in your 10,000 steps even when you are on the road. read more

I love Shasta Lake! It mostly lends itself to accessing the water by boat but there are a few spots where you can drive your car to the beach and swim. I have enjoyed renting a party cruiser boat with my family and just the same parking at the beach and swimming or floating on our rafts. read more

Lake Shasta has been a constant throughout my life. From fishing and waterskiing excursions when I was younger to a recent houseboat trip, I've always enjoyed the benefits of this massive reservoir. There is plenty you could pick apart if you were so inclined, but I encourage everyone to applaud this incredible resource and its beauty. We recently did a houseboat trip that allowed us to get out end explore what this massive lake has to offer. It's really one of the biggest reservoirs I've encountered. If you're out on a boat, you could spend days just tooling around and exploring inlets from one end to the other. The water on a good day can be perfectly calm, cool and relaxing - especially in the height of the summer heat. The lake is lower these days, and I hear it continues to lose about six inches a day over the summer months. As long as it is full and open to all, I will be sure to come back with friends and family for years to come! read more

I broke my arm when I was 8 and then my friend invited me out tubing on the lake. Since I had a cast on, I had to wrap my whole arm in multiple garbage bags to keep water out. I made sure they didn't tow me at more then like 8 MPH. Once I got the cast off, I was still too scared to go faster than that. My friend would go like 45 MPH and then eventually get thrown off and it looked really painful watching him slap across the water like a big skipping stone made of meat and flailing limbs but somehow I was being ridiculous for not wanting to be towed at those kinds of speeds. We also camped onshore during the weekend and my friend's grandma told me eating burnt marshmallows would give me stomach cancer. If you've read my mother reviews, go ahead and add that to the list of reasons I have crippling anxiety. Somewhere there's a picture of me with a full arm cast wrapped in three Glad bags feeding Chicken in a Biscuit crackers by hand to a deer that was almost certainly riddled to the teeth with Lyme disease. How did people survive life in the '90s and before?? As an adult, I camped up near Lakehead and my friend taught me how to efficiently drink those gallons of cheap wine that come in glass bottles with only tiny little finger holes to hold onto. The wine was VERY warm, and I slept in my car using a shoe as a pillow. I had neck spasms for a month. Overall had a solid time at the lake. read more

Took the boat out for Memorial Day weekend. It's was gorgeous out. The lake was pretty filthy though. I know they just had the fires a few months ago so I assume all the logs in the water are from that but there were so many! It felt like we were watching for logs to avoid most of the trip. We also found two people in the middle of the lake on a tube. Apparently the house boat they were renting left them and no one on board realized they were missing. We picked them up and brought them back to their dock. Felt so bad for those guys! Had a great time! read more

Shasta Lake - Shasta Lake - Lakes Near Me - Redding, California

So relaxing, but I guess most places are relaxing if you're constantly buzzed when you're there. Even if I wasn't buzzed for the majority of the time, I still think it would have been very relaxing. Card games, food, alcohol, sun bathing, and then jumping in the water to cool down...that's always a good time. I listened to "River" by Leon Bridges on the water when the sun was setting and I literally felt like I was one with the water. The buzz and Leon get a huge assist for that feeling I had. Alcohol and Leon helped me find my river in a lake and for that I'm grateful. read more

This lake is one of the most OPEN and beautiful scenes around in the Redding area in my opinion! There are also some VERY fun Geocaches on some birdhouses called "boomtown birdhouses" check it out! read more

This place is ok for singles or retirees but, I do not recommend it if you are a parent with children.

I would normally give this beautiful lake 10/5 stars, but I just cant Unfortunately 3 years ago I had an appointment with fate. My face was obliterated by the water while tubing, resulting in a entire reconstruction of my face and metal plates in my cheek bones. This time in my life was the hardest thing I have ever had to endure, and the disheartening truth of the matter is that lake Shasta is a cursed body of water and any attempts to have fun at this hell whole of a site will prove to be vile. Just to give you more evidence to make you want to steer clear of this hair curling location, 2 years ago when we went on our yearly trip to Shasta, planning to stay on a houseboat like we always would then all of a sudden I fell of one house boat (a brand new one that should not be anywhere close to breaking) due to a rusty (again how could it rust) railing and got a level 3 concussion which still affects my memory to this day. If you thought it was over, your wrong. Quite literally right now I'm 6 minutes away from lake Shasta, and 3 out of 4 of our tires popped, and it just so happens that AAA "can't reach us where we are". I now have to wait 6 hours as my family can come tow my truck back to San Jose. Oh did I mention I have a trailer with a boat on it??? Yeah I really don't know how that's gunna get back.
