Warning! Do not bring your car to this shop!
Gross negligence in troubleshooting and attempting to repair a water leak issue after they installed a new convertible top on my Porsche Boxster.
Six months after the new top was installed I noticed water had leaked behind the rear passenger seat ( carpets and items behind seat thoroughly soaked -- water must have been leaking in there for months!). Still under warranty and thinking it might be the top fabric or a seal - I brought car back to Trim & Top. Doug dried the rugs and claimed he checked all drains, and the canvas top but stated that he could not find a specific leak. For this he charged me seven hours labor for a total bill of $874.43!! PLUS - he failed to reset the airbag light on the dashboard. When I asked him to reset it he said he did not own the device to reset it and that I should take it to Porsche or my mechanic -- WHAT!?! I left his shop with more issues than when I started! I should of known right there I was being taken for a ride and ripped off.
A couple days later after it rained - water behind the seat again! I took the car back to Doug and gave him a drain / drain pan diagram for the car that I got from the internet which he gladly took from me( he did zero research on his own apparently!). I stressed that he check the drain pan ( not just the drain tubes) as I had read that the drain pan can be damaged when a new convertible top is installed - something he should be well aware of already. He kept the car for the weekend and upon return of the car Doug stated the drains were now all clear and the drain pan was ok.
A couple of days after that it rained again and -- water still getting in the rear passenger seat; wet rugs again! The leak was NOT taken care of. I called Doug and he basically told me there was nothing more he could do. I asked for at least a partial refund as the leak was never fixed, and he flat out refused.
I took the car to Porsche Roslyn they diagnosed the issue within six hours and informed me the leak was coming from the drain pan. There was a small tear in drain pan foam, and two areas that were pinched/crimped - possibly as a result of sloppy installation of the new convertible top ( installed by Trim & Top). Additionally, had Doug actually inspected the drain pan he would have seen these things.
Roslyn Porsche found and solved the problem quickly whereas Trim & Top took days " troubleshooting" the issue and was unable to come up with a solution and charged me $874.43 to boot. A total rip off. Total negligence on the part of Trim & Top.
Oh, and to add insult to injury -- Trim & Top has a working relationship with Roslyn Porsche, and not once did Doug consult with Porsche on where the problem might be. Talk about lazy!
Trim & Top's treatment of a customer who gave them thousands of dollars of business ( 2k to replace the convertible top), is despicable. The incompetence, negligence and laziness is inexcusable.
