Without hesitation, I am recommending AutoMat to anyone who wants the highest quality of workmanship for their car. I definitely would give AutoMat the maximum stars possible. My new top fits like a glove, it opens and closes with ease, and it has a nice, tight fit when it's closed. Now, be advised that I am writing this recommendation, not one or two days after, but a few weeks after the work was done. I'm doing this because I wanted to be absolutely sure that I am 100% satisfied with the work done before I go endorsing anyone, and I certainly am - there have been no leaks at all considering the car is not garaged and it has already been through four heavy rainstorms and half a hurricane! The top still opens and closes with the greatest of ease, and it really looks terrific - as if it were installed yesterday. I know for a fact this convertible top installation was not an easy install. I once had it done several years ago by a shop who claimed they were experienced, but they ended up doing a botch job and had my car in their garage for three days when this is really a one day job. That cheap top they installed did not last long, so when I decided to have it replaced because the quality of the top and the installation was poor, I began to search around for another company to install the new top. I was quite surprised to learn that some shops simply turned down the job because it was either too complicated, they were too busy, or maybe they just didn't know how to do it. Some shops took my name and number and said they would get back to me with an estimate. They never did. It was through a show-biz friend of mine that I learned about AutoMat. I want to mention that every employee I met at AutoMat was very professional, courteous, and helpful in addressing any question or concern that I had. The name of the gentleman I worked with is Tim, and I strongly recommend bringing your car in and speaking with him first to discuss what you would like to have done. It'll cost you nothing to find out how reasonable first-class quality work can be. Tim listens carefully to what the customer wants, or has to say, and he can offer valuable input or options to your ideas stemming from his years of experience. And when it comes to doing the work on time, my car was ready for pickup when promised. In my case, the same day. Last but not least, there were no add-ons or surprises to the bill. What I ended up paying was exactly what he quoted me at the beginning, nothing more. Now that I have seen and experienced the excellent quality of work AutoMat has to offer, I will no doubt be going back for future projects. AutoMat is now my go-to place for any upholstery or convertible top work. Give them a try, visit the shop, you'll see what I mean.

Classic Leyland Restorations in Prospect, CT (who have done wonderful mechanical and bodywork on my Mini - I highly recommend them as well), recommended AutoMat. The owner Tim provided an estimate around half the price of two other shops that I had approached (one very far away in PA) and could schedule me in just a few weeks. The final cost was higher due both to reinforcements/padding they applied to prevent the frame spines from tearing the new skin, and their decision to remove the entire frame from the roof of the car, but it was still less expensive than other shops. And their customer service is top-notch - they even gave the car a courtesy interior cleaning and gave me a lift to the train station after my first attempt to pick up the car. I say "1st attempt" because the top wasn't 100% right at first - the new skin looked great, but the mechanism was binding when opening and closing. But they worked on it further and I was happy with how it functioned when I returned again to pick it up. Verdict: Skip the other shops; Go to AutoMat - they do great work!

I was referred to him because the carpet in my car had been drenched and still felt (it affected my breathing) and smelled moldy after being professionally cleaned, following a series of drenching rainstorms. It was very important for me to have this done correctly, because I have asthma and I am allergic to dust and mold.Tommy determined that only by replacing the carpet could we be assured that the mold would be removed. He did a great job of removing the old carpet and installing the new carpet at a reasonable price and the carpet was perfect. Six months later, my new carpet, that Tommy had installed, was soaked once again. I bought a wet-dry vacuum and vacuumed the carpet, and as far as I could reach under the carpet, after each soaking rain (at least 3 times for hours). I repeatedly covered the carpets with baking soda and scraped it up, several times. After bringing the car to Lexus for advice, I was advised by the Service Manager that he was 99% certain that the problem was that the drain from the sunroof was clogged. Apparently this car is so poorly designed that the water drains into the car whenever the sunroof drainage line is clogged. Tommy permanently solved the problem by cleaning and rerouting the sunroof drainage line so that it no longer can drain water into the car.He also removed the carpet, dried it out and the insulating foam below it, and then kept it outside of his shop for about a week, until both the carpet and the bottom of the car had completely dried. Then Tommy did a fabulous job of reinstalling the carpet. He also did a phenomenal job of cleaning out the inside of the center console, cleaning and greasing the the dashboard, buttons, knobs, etc , so that the car appears and smells brand new, without using toxic chemicals. He did all this for a reasonable price. It's obvious that he enjoys and takes great pride in his work, which is well deserved. We highly recommend this place.
