Upon arrival, a young man working on a car greeted me (again, so sweetly), asked what was the issue I was having with my car. I immediately frowned thinking about the hole in my tire. July 13, 2020 STAY AWAY!…read moreI had an awful experience yesterday! Bob's is unethical and uses fear tactics to extort repairs on unsuspecting customers. I took my 2013 Highlander in for a routine oil change. I was visiting from MA to see my parents. After dropping off the vehicle that morning, Bob's called me a couple of hours later and let me know that they couldn't change the oil filter because the lid was screwed on so tight is broke the tool. Then they told me that my brakes needed to be done right away. He explained that the front brakes are "metal on metal," and the rear brakes would be "gone tomorrow." I already knew that this couldn't be true, because the brakes were not making noise. I said that this was interesting, since I had just had my car inspected in March and everything checked out fine. He responded,"That's been 4-5 months. I don't know how much you drive." I responded, "Not much." Then he said, "I can't believe you didn't notice the scraping." I asked if I could get my car? And he said to come down and get it. When I showed up to pay the bill for the oil change, he dug in, "You going to drive this car back to Massachusetts? It isn't safe." He continued, "You got it inspected in March? Well they didn't even look at the brakes." He took an aggressive tone with me, without an ounce of care and concern. I said OK, and left. Back at my parents' house, we took off the front tire and looked at the rotor and the brake pads. The rotor was clean (no scrapes) and the pads with thinned but in no way gone. There was no truth to his claims about the brakes, he used aggressive scare tactics to try to get me to agree to getting work done with him, and tried to get me to question my own judgment regarding my experience of my car. I was concerned about some of the parts the insurance company had included on my insurance estimate but Steve had assured me that they inspect all the parts that go on my vehicle, if any issues came up with the used parts Travelers selected they would inspect them to make sure they were up to Sands Point Standards. I was so happy with the work on my vehicle i wanted to add a hand painted pin stripe, the shop was able to add the stripe the same day. The car was done when promised and i was given a lifetime warranty on my vehicle. While I was there I asked if there was a "little John" due to the previous posts I was concerned, i was informed he had some health issues and was no longer able to work, he stops in from time to time to say hi, another customer in the waiting room overheard me and was sad to hear "little john had to retire. While i hope not to need a body shop anytime soon I would be more than happy to use them by "accident" if needed.
