I had high hopes for Tri-Valley K9/Felix S. when I hired him to board & train our 2 Shepherd mixes for a week (8 nights specifically). Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We wanted our dogs to work on obedience and off-leash training. One of our dogs is a quick learner and the other is very treat-motivated. We understand that one week is not enough to perfect these tasks however, we expected the learning process to begin under the trainer's care and the owners would be recapped on what was taught in order to reinforce, and continue the training. However, after the entire week, we felt that there was not any training to "continue". The one training video we received was of our dogs learning "place" and "stay" - both commands that they already knew. Felix mentioned they walked around the park every day....was there any training here? Or was he just walking our dogs? Cause they walked the exact same way when we got them back. Additionally, we specifically mentioned training goals we wanted to be addressed. One was reactive towards larger dogs and the other was very sensitive to loud noises/busy streets. When asked if he worked on those concerns, Felix stated that he did not witness any of those behaviors at all - so it was not addressed. My question is - were they intentionally exposed enough to express those behaviors? (During our 1-on-1, we walked along the busy street and my dog instantly became skittish and started pulling away from the street...it was not difficult to witness and address the behavior.) Felix informed us that he was in the middle of a marketing restructuring and although the updated costs were higher, he was willing to accommodate the former pricing structure of $175/night/dog. We spent $2800 for a week of boarding & training for 2 dogs. I requested daily photos and updates and for the entire week, we only received 3 sporadic photo updates - all prompted by my request. I only received 1 actual report on Day 2 which stated that they did not do any training yet because our dogs have not adjusted to their new environment yet. Pick up and drop off were fine. However, the 1 hr recap session with us was scheduled a couple of days after drop off. Felix completely missed our appointment and didn't realize until we texted him 15 min into our scheduled appointment. We ended up meeting the next day. Felix could not specifically recall what commands/training they worked on during the one week with him. We did not see ANY differences in our dogs' behavior. While the one-hour session was okay, it does not make up for the one-week training we were promised. As a gesture for completely missing our originally scheduled appt, he offered an extra free lesson where we can work on off-leash walking using e-collars. It has been a month since we scheduled the makeup lesson. He canceled and rescheduled twice. I texted him 2 times to see when we can reschedule this makeup appointment and have not received any response. At this point, I think it's safe to say we have been ghosted by Felix since Oct 2, 2023. It is distasteful when you offer something to make up for your mistake and then never follow through with it. Overall - I would NOT recommend Felix's board and train. He seems very disorganized and scattered with many commitments all over the Bay Area. Unless you are doing a 1-on-1 where you have his full attention, I would not trust he's allotting the appropriate time and training for your pup. Avoid the costly mistake that we made with Board + Train. The only good things that came out of this experience were that (1) my dogs came back safe and healthy, and (2) the one-hour 1-on-1 session went well. read more

Felix had our 2 year old Lab, Maui for 2weeks. Our main concerns were off leash recall, jumping & stealing household items (shoes, towels). He was very communicative from the time he took Maui to the time we got him back. Letting us know how Maui was progressing, what he was able to accomplish & what he would still need to work on when he got home. Since being back for a couple weeks now we noticed a more calm behavior. He has not been jumping on us, or guests. He knows his "place" and will stay for 20+ minutes until we release. Maui's taking of household items has decreased & his recall has improved. Overall would definitely recommend! read more

We did Felix's board and train program for our two mix German Shepard ages 2 and 5 for 8 nights and 9 days. His program offers two to three training sessions a day. That's 18-21 training session. Our dogs are well trained however we requested them to learn "heel" and "off leash" walking. We expected for the dogs to be introduced to these commands for us to reenforce once they come back home. Unfortunately, Felix was all bark and no bite. Many goals were not met. Starting with the good, Felix returned our dogs in good health and kept to his pick and drop off times. When Felix showed up for the lesson he gave us good advice. The bad. Felix offered training in our desired language which we created a pronunciation sheet for him. He ended up stating he couldn't do it. We had someone on Rover be able to do this when we needed a house sitter two weeks after. We received one report on progress on day 2 which stated their need to adjust in a new environment. No training had been done. Felix "worked" on sit/place command but mentioned our treat motivated dog was difficult to train. This was the only reported "training" completed. Both dogs are able to perform this command prior to boarding. Upon drop off, Felix was unable to provide a report on their training and veered the conversation towards the private lesson. He said he walked the dogs each day. And after the "on-leash walk" private lesson. I asked if they did any type of training with "heel" and he looked shocked and said "what do you call what we just did." I believe the Heel command is when the dog sits by your side and we wanted them to be introduced to off leash walking. Felix was dumb founded and promised to work on these commands next training session. Felix cancelled our training and rescheduled then canceled again then ghosted us. Felix and Christi came out to help me with our foster fail, Nanuk. He's a 4 year old German Shepherd mix that was stray, in a high kill shelter for a long time, and who was never trained on a leash. We tried many methods over 6 months by ourselves and with other trainers' advice only to see zero change. He jumps up excitedly, but is so big he can seriously injure someone. He is pure chaos and intense strength on a leash, add that to anxiety and zero ability to focus, and it's a recipe for disaster. Within the first 30 seconds on the training session with the proper tools, Felix had Nanuk walking beside him, then beside me. I trust them! They use different methods for different dogs, and that is the key. My gratitude is endless. My dog and I are on the road to a far less stressful adventure life now. Started having issues with my dog Rocco. Rocco started to become very reactive to other dogs and most recently to moving cars. Called Felix and talked to him about my problem. He suggested we meet and see how we can fix the problem. Rocco and met Felix at a local park. Felix talked me through the neccessary changes and within 15 minutes Rocco started to keep the leash slack and would check-in with me more as we walked. I started working with Felix almost 5 weeks ago. I have a 9-month-old working line Belgian Malinois with a lot of energy, but his obedience didn't match his spunk and stamina.
