Mike is AWESOME. I've had dogs most of my life and have worked with a handful of different trainers, and I can confidently say that Mike is among the best trainers out there. I adopted my chihuahua mix, Oliver, at 3 months from a rescue. He was a good puppy but very shy and timid and had a tough time being consistent with basic obedience. Oliver is now 5 months and so far we have completed Mike's Puppy I class and just finished a 2 week board and train with Mike. I couldn't be happier with Oliver's progress. He is now a much more confident boy and has his basic obedience down (sit, down, stay, come, off). Mike is also very good at training the dog's owners on proper training techniques and correction which is equally as important as training the dog. I'm so grateful I found Mike and his team. I trust them implicitly and will be continuing with Puppy II, Puppy III, and his advanced outdoor program. Thank you Mike!!!

Michael Wombacher is the real deal. I spend every class learning volumes in an always fun atmosphere and setting. Hes extremely practical in his approach and the classes have without question done wonders for our Border Collie,Sadie. I am eternally grateful he turned our pretty good pup to a great one.

We started with Mike's puppy training #1 and continued until #3. We learned all the puppy training basics up to real life training out in crissy field. It's completely worth it especially when strangers at dog parks are complimenting on our training skills. Can't thank you enough Mike!

Mike is Amazing! We completed Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 classes. He taught us that building "trust" with our puppy is the most important part of the training. We didn't really understand it at the moment, but it became evident when we started bathing him, brushing and even examining him cause he had a minor injury. We can't wait for Puppy 3 and the out door training class. Mike is a true Dog Whisperer. He cares deeply about the dogs and his approach is realistic, scientific and effective. He takes time to individually understand the needs of the dog and help them plan out the next step. We searched a lot to find a good instructor and we feel lucky that Mike accepted our puppy in his class for training. I would say that Mike's Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 classes are "MUST" for every Puppy. Looking forward to the 3rd class.

We came to Mike on the recommendation of a colleague who trained their golden with him. We've been training our german shepherd puppy, Ari with him since day one and it's been the best thing we could do for her. Ari has done Mike's Puppy 1, 2, and Outdoor Advanced class. We love that Puppy 1 started by building the basics, including getting Ari comfortable with handling. Those skills have made it easier to groom her, take her to the vet, and have others handle her. Regarding commands, we've had great success. Mike tries to guide pet parents to the tools they need for success with their dogs, and equips them with the skills they need to train a well adjusted pup. I would highly recommend Mike's classes to any prospective pet parent.

We brought our rescue dog for training with their puppy 2 and puppy 3 class . My dog now has an amazing recall , sits , stays and we built a strong bond because of these classes . I can't recommend them enough . You can YouTube dog training things but you will get so much more from Mike the trainer on the little things that make a huge difference. We enjoyed it so much we signed up for the tricks and agility class which is super fun. If your looking to laugh a lot and be around other friendly dog owners and pups this is great. Worth every penny. Go to these classes , do the work with your dog (outside of class too) and you will have a dog that listens and you can be proud of.

Ask the Community - Dog Gone Good!

Hi, I just brought home a goldedoodle puppy that is 11 weeks old. Do you work with pups for training? Also, what is your training philosophy? Are you positive reinforcement only or are there active corrections involved in unwanted behaviors? Thx

The short answer is that I use correction, if needed, and in a context of massive amounts of positive reinforcement. If you'd like a deeper answer, please read the introduction to my most recent book here:… Read more

Hello, my small dog has really bad leash aggression and very reactive, he sounds rabid and scary when he sees another dog. Can I still bring him to group trainings?

Well, I guess the first question would be how he is when he's off the leash.

Hi? Can you help with my dog anxiety?she is sweet to us but always barks and aggressive to other people. She hates other dogs too. She is always tense, panting, quivering when we go to the park or mall or anywhere around dogs and people.

Hi - these are difficult issues to resolve reliably but it's definitely doable. Anxiety issues are deep seated in the dog and usually take lengthy routines of systematic desensitizing, often accompanied by anti-anxiety meds, to remedy. And even with… Read more

Just adopted a 3yo husky who is affectionate and strong willed. Signed up for this class. Is there hope for a husky who has had no prior training with previous owner (s)? Looking for positive stories.

Of course there is. Loads of dogs are out there who didn't get an awesome start in life but whose fortunes turned when they were adopted. And you can definitely teach an old dog new tricks. You just have to find the right training...

Review for Adam at Bark Busters San Francisco…read more We had an incredible experience working with Adam from Bark Busters in San Francisco. From the very first session, it was clear he has a deep understanding of dog behavior and a calm, confident approach to training. Adam helped us work through some long-standing challenges with our dog, Zoe, and the progress we've seen has been genuinely life-changing. Adam didn't just focus on Zoe -- he focused on us as owners, teaching us how to communicate clearly and consistently in a way Zoe could actually understand. His explanations were practical, easy to apply, and rooted in real behavioral insight rather than gimmicks. Even after the first session, we noticed Zoe was calmer, more responsive, and more confident. What really sets Adam apart is how supportive and thorough he is. He walked us through each technique step by step, answered every question thoughtfully, and made sure we felt confident continuing the training on our own. We never felt rushed or overwhelmed -- just empowered. Zoe is now noticeably better behaved, less reactive, and overall happier -- and we credit Adam entirely for that transformation. If you're in the Bay Area and looking for a trainer who truly understands both dogs and humans, we can't recommend Adam highly enough.

Resource guarding his food bowl, bad at walking, random growling at us, overstimulated by balls/dogs, and generally uncontrollable in any situation. We inquired with a bunch of different dog trainers and decided to go with Refined K9 given their holistic approach. Before Refinedk9, I had tried "positive only" trainers that evaluated Buddha for his food aggression, but they were totally ineffective and, in fact, made his reactivity towards food worse. We were also way over-feeding him and numbing him to treats. Other unqualified trainers were also unable to explain how they would properly introduce an e-collar and why e-collars are used. We were extremely anxious about having Buddha do the 4-week board and train to "reset", but we felt okay after learning Jose has many French bulldogs himself. Even though we didn't get super frequent updates, it was clear every week that Buddha was very well taken care of. Jose took the first week to evaluate our dog, his behavior, and get to know him, without "jumping" into conditioning. He took the time to understand us, our dog's behaviors, and tailored a program to uplevel Buddha slowly (place, relaxing around food, learning how to walk properly, with a gentler prong collar, and then an e-collar). He also helped Buddha learn how to 'communicate' with other dogs and 'socialize' properly in a safe space (not a random dog park). When we visited Buddha, we could tell he respected and liked Jose. I cried with happiness the day our dog came back :) He walked perfectly, he was confident, and knew how to communicate with other dogs. He was calmer in our home but still had his personality. We learned to make hard changes to our environment that was overstimulating for our dog and how to better communicate with him. Even though it's been hard enforcing changes at home, I feel so much happier with our structure. The intake process with Refinedk9 was a little confusing, as we talked to 3 different trainers over phone/email, although all of them recommended Jose for us. At the end of the day, we trusted our decision to move forward, and we are incredibly thankful to have our boy in the hands of a highly experienced and trustworthy dog trainer.
